Sailing daffy is awesome! Captain Charlie kept us safe and explained everything perfectly. We had an amazing first time sailing, definitely a new experience and can't wait to do it again with Charlie. Went with just one other person and my dog, brought plenty of alcohol and some sandwiches. Popping champagne on a beautiful sailboat in the ocean is incredible

My friends and I came to Ft. Lauderdale for my bachelorette weekend. We booked with Charlie for a 4ish hour sail on a Sunday. He was so funny and witty right off the bat, so we had an awesome time with him. We were able to drink some mimosas and listen to music, sit wherever on the boat, it was a great experience. If you haven't been on the ocean in a boat before, I would recommend taking Dramamine or the equivalent the night before you plan to go out and then again in the morning. Most of us got a little nauseous when we hit the ocean, but it subsided after we adjusted. Charlie took us to a wading area for us to get out of the boat and swim, he has floaties to hold onto that are attached to the boat. Charlie was the life of the party, super safe, and would love to sail with him again whenever we are back in Ft. Lauderdale! Highly recommend if you're looking for a good time!

My family & I went sailing this past Monday with Captain Charlie on the DAFFY & had an AMAZING time. It was a great experience right from the start - prior to booking, Captain Charlie answered all my questions, very timely, sent photos and was extremely accommodating in terms of scheduling. He listened to my concerns & assured me that the trip would be no problem for my father, who has mobility issues & promised us a wonderful time. He did not disappoint. Captain Charlie was great! He assisted my dad on and off the boat & could not be more welcoming. His sense of humor, expert sailing skills and wonderful disposition made our ride even better (if that was even possible). Capt. Charlie operates a sail boat from the dock behind his home. The million-dollar yachts are parked along the waterway leading to the harbor. As you navigate out you get to see how the other half lives. $20M mansions abound. After cruising past the luxury views we made it out beyond the cruise ships and out to the ocean. We raised the sails and spent another hour under sail where we got to see dolphins just off the boat. It was a fantastic way to spend 3.5 hours on a beautiful day. If you're in the area and want an affordable option to head out on the water then give Captain Charlie a call. Although there are occasional Groupon deals available I'd suggest just calling directly since you will likely get a better deal from the man himself. Thank you for an amazing afternoon!

I must say, we had an amazing time sailing the Daffy. This was a surprise for my husbands birthday and he had an excellent time. Capt. Charlie was great in helping my family & I prepare for the surprise. Everything went smoothly and made the experience a memorable one! Thank you again for an awesome time!

Can't find enough words to describe what an awesome experience we had with Capital Charlie while sailing Daffy! If I could put a thousand starts I would lol!!! He was very accommodating when I asked if I could bring my friendly doggy along with us, he also is very fun to be around and very knowledgeable! He even let us swim for a while and we had such a wonderful time! Even when we got some rain, that didn't stop capital Charlie from making us have a great time. Over all, we had a wonderful experience, I would definitely recommend him and I am looking forward to come back again!!!!

Captain Charlie was an excellent and knowlegeable Captain of his 387 Catalina sloop. He delighted us with his stories and knowlege of the Fort Lauderdale area. We enjoyed the 4 hour cruise we went on and was amazed at his seamanship. I highly reccomend using his services. read more

I was put off by Charlie before the sail began and every ounce of me told me to cancel and not go on the trip, however we were with friends and i didn't want to ruin it for them. I take full responsibility for not understanding that we were going on open ocean and it could get rough out there. I also thought we would see dolphins, whales, and birds and we didn't. Thank heavens i took anti nausea pills that captain charlie offered or i would have hurled. as it was I felt pretty queasy for most of the trip even though it was a sunny day and would have paid extra for him to turn around. I wasn't enamored of the captains gruff way and i'm older so this trip wasn't for me. The guy who said he will be back was 19. If you're not used to going in the open ocean I'd think twice. i signed up for something totally different so most of this terrible time i had was on me. When i got home i was knocked out and slept for 5 hours and didn't fully recover till the morning. read more

Had a great morning sail down the New River, out to open ocean and back with Captain Charlie. Daffy is a wonderful sailboat and it's easy to tell that the Captain loves where he lives and loves to share his passion for sailing with others! We all had a great time - every time!!! We have been out on the Daffy 3 times, and each time it's as good as the last. Captain Charlie is a great guy - he is warm, professional and accommodating with whatever you want to do. We went out as a group of 3 and just enjoyed the ocean air, being on the river, music, drinking wine and soda and then out into the ocean. My sister's friend won a silent auction last summer and she was invited to go out with her and her 4 friends. They had a blast! When she came back she said "We have to go - awesome ride and great Captain! " And so we have :) It's easy to book, Captain texts you all the info and address and you go to his house where the Daffy is docked. You bring all the food, (whatever you want). We have brought sandwiches, snacks, chips, cold cuts, desserts - whatever you want to eat during your 3-4 hour trip. We brought wine but all alcohol is acceptable. He has a huge ice chest so you need to bring ice as well, to keep things cold downstairs. You can also sit downstairs where there are 2 big couches, coffee table, small kitchen and toilet. So neat and clean! Once on board, Captain tells you the rules, and you sign a waiver , and set your things down. Now the fun begins! Definitely a fun private way to go see Las Olas and the ocean with a private guide. I highly recommend sailing on the Daffy with Captain Charlie!!! read more

More than what we could have expected! Thank you for making our experience memorable!!! Captain Carlie is a well mannered, light hearted, fun, and has a great sense of humor. What made our experience so special was the fact that my two young children age 6 and 4 continuously ask when we can go back to see "Captain Charlie" Now all their toys have taken on the name of "Captain Charlie". We chartered Sailing Daffy for our final day in Fort Lauderdale and it was such a treat. We packed a cooler full of snacks and beverages and enjoyed every minute of our trip. The boat was well-maintained and Capt Charlie was an excellent guide. Whether for a beautiful sail down the river and into the ocean or to celebrate something special, I would highly recommend Sailing Daffy! read more

I had friends visiting so we decided to do this. It was so fun and relaxing and I can't wait to do it again. It was supposed to be a three hour tour but Captain Charlie tried to fulfill our desire to see the sunset by staying out an additional 2 hours. Captain Charlie was very accommodating, friendly, and funny. I had my 3 year old on the boat with us and he let him "drive" the boat several times, he loved it! The only negatives (if you can call it that) were that it was supposed to be a private tour but we shared ours with another couple. To be fair, we only called the day before and he squeezed us in and the couple was great. We really enjoyed their company. Other than that, the sails weren't up much (only twice for short periods of time) but again not the company or Captain Charlie's fault as the ocean was really rough and we were lucky to go at all. All in all it was a fabulous day and I really hope to do it again...soon. Thanks Captain Charlie! read more

My family and I took a half day sail with Captain Charlie on Daffy recently. While the swell was maybe bigger than we expected, Captain Charlie and Daffy exceeded all expectations. Daffy was comfortable, with plenty of room in the cockpit for our family and the Captain, she was very clean and well taken care of. We've never been sailing before, so with the swell and heeling over quite a bit it was an unexpected wild ride, but our small children did well (the 2 year old even fell asleep on the cockpit after a while). Captain Charlie was great. A professional who clearly knows the area and sailing very well, and his wife was very kind and made us some sandwiches to bring along and some excellent cookies that my kids talked about the following day - saying they wanted to go back on Daffy just for more cookies. It was definitely a good experience even though the wind and waves were more than we'd expected. I would absolutely recommend anyone looking to see South Florida from a different perspective or wanting to experience something unique to take a half day or full day trip on Daffy. Tip - let Captain Charlie know what you want to do and he'll make it happen, whether a sailing intro lesson or fishing and a swim. read more

We had a wonderful sailing experience. We had visitors from overseas and wanted to show them around our waterways, but at the same time wanted some relaxing time to talk, catch up and have an enjoyable time for both adults and kids. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Captain Charlie was friendly, kept us entertained, gave a sailing crash course to each one of the kids and let them sail, gave us our space to chat, took pictures, etc. Communication and booking was super easy and hassle free. Captain Charlie was the best part of our Awesome Adventure aboard the Daffy. He knows so much about sailing and the area. The views were beautiful and the company was great. He made us comfortable and let us try our hand at finding the "sweet spot" at the wheel. We definitely recommend that you climb aboard and leave it up to him be sure to let him know that you like Jimmy Buffet. If you bring him a Heineken and you will have a friend for life! Amazing experience. I proposed to my girlfriend, now fiancé, and Captain Charlie accommodated everything I asked for. Very friendly and knowledgeable but also gave us space where we could spend time with our friends and family, and not feel awkward. Would recommend this to anyone interested in going out for something romantic or just for a few hours and some good drinks and great scenery. Will be back again, for sure!! read more

We reserved the boat to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday, and I can't imagine a more perfect way to mark a special occasion than on a gorgeous, luxury sailboat. The Sailing Daffy was a wonderful experience. For a south Florida native and tourist alike. Captain Charlie was entertaining, accommodating and professional. His boat was clean and equipped with everything you could Possibly need. He told intriguing stories about the local area and made jokes to keep us laughing. Even though the weather wasn't the best and neither are my sea legs, he kept the boat stable and all of us feeling great. I would highly recommend this experience for a group of even a private outings. read more

This was definitely one of the highlights of our family vacation! The Daffy is a beautiful sailboat and Captain Charlie's love and passion for sailing is infectious. Our 11 year old was very reluctant to be out on the ocean. An hour into the trip she was behind the wheel and loving it! Celebrated my 50th Birthday with my special crew....it was gifted to me by my Bestest friend!!! How lucky am I?!?! The MOST amazing present ever!!! Captain Charlie was JUST what I'd hoped for in a captain. He headed our rowdy and varied bunch spectacularly!!! We each got a turn at the wheel with expert instruction...his tone and tutorage to suit each individual's personality. We received and printed our 16-page instructional booklet ahead of time and were commended by our Captain for having done a fine job with our homework! Positive! Had the absolute best time ever aboard the sailing daffy. Went sailing to celebrate my birthday with loved ones. It was a great time. Captain Charlie has the humor expected of a weathered sailor. A great personality with an experienced sense of the sea. He may hold blasé conversation while steering with his bare feet or ask a favor of you! We went out to the ocean for a bit, but one of our friends started feeling queazy(it was a little choppy that day). He respected that and turned the boat right around back into the intercostal to flat waters. The cruise through the intercostal was really lovely. Went through downtown las olas and saw the river walk. Do it you won't regret it! You can bring anything you want as far as food and drinks. He evens allows smoking aboard ship if you do that. In my 7 day 101-104 class we did zero docking, zero…read morenavigation other than line of sight, zero man overboard procedure (perhaps the most disturbing), zero discussion on sail trim/how to sail, anchored only one time, did not learn to provision, or to enter countries (captain provisioned and checked us in). Captain Jose Miranda was a nice person and answered the million questions that I had, but I can tell he was burnt out and just going through the motions of making sure we pass our ASA tests. He had zero interest in teaching us to dock or to sail properly, at least from my perspective. All students in my class had prior sailing experience, so we managed to do well when we did sail the boat. Jose would just go into the bridge deck and look at his phone while we sailed. Long story short, if you want certs fast and relatively easy, then BWSS is a good choice. However, if you actually want to learn to sail, I fully recommend another company like Maryland School of Sailing. I am having to take more classes just to learn the basics like docking and coastal navigation. Lastly, this is not an attack on the employees/owner of BWSS. Everyone was helpful and nice. The curriculum needs vast improvement, though. I do regret taking this class because wanted more in-depth training and practice. This was more like a classroom on a boat with 6 hours of vacation activities ever afternoon.

We went on July 3rd on a Sunday and it was a beautiful day out. Sunny with 10% chance of rain, which is good for summer in Florida. The weather was perfect. We arrived to Bahia Mar Marina and checked in at the Tropical Sailing office by the main entrance, located behind Market Cafe. Once we checked in, we went over to the marina where the catamaran was located. There was a group total of maybe 30 people on our cruise. Our captain was Ernesto aka "E" and then Nick who was the bartender/first mate. E and Nick were awesome. E had jokes all day long and was so good about informing everyone about rules and things to do and not do. Nick was so good catering to our kids, we had 13 people total in our party and 7 of those were kids. He was great about tending to them and making sure the kids were happy for the duration of the cruise They offered free snacks, bottled water and sodas with the ticket price. You could open a tab and buy alcoholic beverages during the cruise. They had beer, White Claw and wine. Very affordable prices. Worth it if you want to drink. We sailed to Fort Lauderdale Beach area in the middle of the ocean and they put out the water mat and trampoline. And the water slide was in full effect. We got to hang and lounge here for maybe 1-2 hours? Hard to say as we didn't keep track of time and we were too busy having fun to notice. It was a good amount of time though for everyone to jump in the water and play. When it was time to leave, E and Nick pulled everything out of the water while most of us lounged on the net. You can only lay on the net when the catamaran is not moving. We sailed back to the marina and almost everyone was passed out and dunzo! What an awesome day on the catamaran. Great fun had by all. Thanks E and Nick for taking care of us. You guys rocked and make this cruise so much better! Thank you. We'll recruit more people and we'll be back soon!

When we were finally able to reach Scott to report the issue his initial response was "so, what are you gonna do about it." That call ended with him saying, "well there's a contract and we'll be going by the terms of the contract." Being two days sail from their dock we didn't have any real option other than sail it back. Half of our party went ashore to Uber from Key Largo to a hotel in Ft Lauderdale. The rest of us stayed with the captain to help sail back. We made it to Key Biscayne where the rest of us disembarked as the captain was willing to sail the rest of the way the following day single handed. We spent four nights of our eight night charter on the boat. Initially in conversations with Karin at Fun in the Sun we discussed at least a partial refund. In the end we received no refund and they wouldn't even return our security deposit. They implied it must have been us that brought the bedbugs aboard. As shown in the photos there is clear evidence of an active bedbug issue on Sundance that began before we arrived. The bite marks don't show up right away and initially looked like mosquito or fly bites. The linear pattern of the bites are what made us investigate the cabin for bedbugs. We found and disposed of 50-60 live bedbugs that we could find. They were mainly congregated behind the headboard. When we left the boat we left behind food and drinks for nine people for four more days, at least $500 worth. In addition we paid for four nights in a hotel and four days of restaurant meals that we hadn't planned on. This whole mess would certainly have ended up in litigation if we didn't live 2200 miles away.

One lifeguard even took a moment to play Rock, Paper, Scissors with my daughter while still remaining fully attentive to her duties in the Lazy River. My daughter won and received a lollipop, a small gesture that made her day and perfectly reflected the balance between safety and creating memorable experiences. I also want to recognize the entire team from the entrance staff, security, servers, and management. Everyone was welcoming, professional, and made the park feel organized, calm, and relaxing despite how busy it was. The only constructive feedback I have is regarding the FlowRider. I completely understand the importance of the safety video, but I believe guests should receive a brief explanation of why they're required to watch it. A little more communication and warmth in that interaction would make the experience even better. Overall, Tidal Cove exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to come back. Adjacent to the Tamarac Park Recreation Center is the Tamarac Multipurpose Center. The facility has a gymnasium, meeting rooms, teen council, art room, restroom, and locker rooms. Tamarac stages many events at these facilities and the park throughout the year. For a full listing of vents check the Parks and Recreation section on the Tamarac city website or follow parks and rec on Instagram and Facebook. An upcoming event is the 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. This is a great resource for the residents of Tamarac and its visitors.

If you have children you could also visit Sullivan Park. Local lore has it that Al Capone buried some treasure here although it has never been found. We all know Florida weather can be very unpredictable, especially in the summer. It didn't look like it was going to be a good day, however it turned out to be the absolute best day for our family of four. It's obvious Captain Charlie has a true passion for sailing. Also, he is such a people person that after this one excursion, I feel as though he is a life long friend. I enjoyed hearing the stories he has to tell about the celebrity homes you see along the Intercostal as well as his sailing experiences. While we were sailing out on the open water, my daughter spot a pod of dolphins in the distance. Almost immediately, Captain Charlie put away the sails, turned on the motor and we raced towards the dolphins. Following Captain Charlie's advice, we hee'd and haw'd out loud to attract the dolphins to get near the Daffy. Soon, the dolphins were breaching in the water directly next to us. We realized, we were in the midst of 30+ dolphins all around us. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL! The dolphins stayed with us for about 1.5 hours, until we got tired of calling after them. On our way back, we had time for a little snorkeling. Captain Charlie took us to an areas were the water is only 12 feet deep above a reef. Being tethered to the Daffy with a line made snorkeling super easy as the boat drifted you around rather than having to swim against the current. IF YOU ARE VISITING FT. LAUDERDALE OR YOU ARE ENTERTAINING OUT OF TOWN GUESTS....A PRIVATE CHARTER ON THE DAFFY IS A MUST DO!!! Captain Charlie will take you wherever you want to go and accommodate whatever you want to do. Captain Charlie is a great man and perfect boat captain. He took time telling us all about the area we sailed thru. Asked what we wanted to do, and made sure that it happened. I was able to go swimming in the ocean for a while. My husband got to help raise and lower the sails. I even had a chance to sail the Daffy. We enjoyed our 20th Wedding Anniversary on the ocean, and Captain Charlie made sure it was perfect. I will definitely sail with him again if I go back to Fort Lauderdale.
