What an awesome place! I'm not sure it counts as new anymore but we finally made it in for dinner before seeing Future of the Left at the gig space, Saint Luke's. It's all really part of the same building but the restaurant & bar has it's own name. They've also just added on a marquee out the front which is perfect if you're just in for drinks (I think this was only temporary for the Restless Natives festival... bring it back!). We booked dinner for 6pm but showed up early and the staff were happy to seat us at a spare table which I appreciated (I was starving!). We ordered a bunch of stuff - mac cheese, spinach dip, wings (they were 1/2 price) and a burger each - I got the southern fried chicken burger and Graeme got a beef with bacon and chicken. The waitress was really helpful and really knew her stuff about the menu. The food did take a while to arrive, nothing horrific but perhaps about 10 minutes longer than I expected. That being said, it all arrived at once so we were able to dive right in. I'd say the chicken wings were just OK but I really liked everything else - the mac cheese had an unusual flavour (perhaps curry powder mixed through) and the spinach dip was really nice but actually a really massive portion. Nice tortilla chips with it, the home-made ones, not packet ones. My burger was massive and I had to take the chicken breast out and eat it with cutlery. It was really dark on the outside but the chicken inside wasn't overcooked. I really liked it here - it's a nice space, the staff were friendly and the food was decent. I don't know that I'd go out of my way to eat here but I was happy with what we had. The only downsides really was the noise - it was SO noisy with FOTL warming up, and even after that they had the music up too loud, and that they had the sport on TV when clearly no one was watching it.

The Winged Ox Bar and Kitchen at Saint Lukes offers 'food for the soul' ranging from pizzas to the 'last supper' which comprises ribs, wings, brisket, pork shoulder, house slaw, fries and brioche buns (not for the faint hearted or those with a small appetite!). For our late lunch we ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with Jack Daniels, mustard and onion chutney with fries and the beef dip which was smoked beef brisket, caramelised onions, mushrooms and peppers on a brioche style roll served with melted provolone and beef jus dip with sweet potato fries. Everything tasted great and was just the right portion size. There was a slight mix up with my order and I was really impressed with the way it was dealt with. The staff are very friendly and attentive but in a laid back way. It's a short walk from the City Centre and you could even have a wander round the Barras on the way there.

The restaurant is right next to a church! Well an old church turned into a venue for live music and events. There was a biker bar vibe inside the bar next to the old church. The menu was innovative since it used religious play on terms to create the topics for menus. Starting off with food, I got the beef cheek kebob. I don't know what I was expecting but it looked like huge barbacoa taco instead. Taste wise the meat was good but the slaw was not to my liking. It tasted rough to me with a slight spice. Again my basic girlfriend got a tomato soup. For me it tasted like it was out the can. Drink wise the mojito was good. I wanted this place to be good and hyped, but the food was subpar.

The east end has a few things going for it and St. Luke's is definitely one of them. This funky restaurant is located off the main chapel of the church. It is carefully decorated with a classy but hip Americana interior. One of the things I like most is their affordable lunch menu. For less than 10 pounds you can have a three course meal! If you want to go off the set menu for the day then definitely try the spinach dip- it's on a straight up American Classic done well by these Glaswegians. I thought the fried chicken burger and the fried chicken steak were good however not good enough to wouldn't write home about. So the food gets a 3.5 for me. St Luke gets 5 stars as far as its dog friendliness. They even offer a dog menu with three different options- thing eggs, chicken and rice! So for me it's a solid overall 4 stars for St.. Luke's!

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

The mood in the bar is chilled, with nice mood lighting, good tunes and board games and books to use at your leisure should you want. There's even a microwave which you can use if you bring in your own food to eat! The kitchen bar is open during club hours too, so if you don't feel like dancing you can head on in to the kitchen and chill and/or eat and/or drink and/or play some board games at 2am!! The club is just as unique. there's parts of old furniture attached to the walls, lots of subtle nods to "The Big Lebowski" everywhere and lots of places to sit. There is a big quirky bar with all the mod cons including that lovely vintage tv playing some obscure Japanese films, of course. There's a big no frills dance area, complete with a wardrobe in the middle of the floor to dance around. There's not much in the way of flashy flashy lights, instead they have projections bouncing about the venue providing lighting changes and blasts from the pasts in the way of old footage and stuff. I've seen people stop dancing to reminisce at what they are seeing on the big projection screens. There is a nice set of standard lamps around to supply extra lighting around the tabled ares too. There is space for fowk to dance and sit and mingle with out feeling like a club, even though it kinda is. Friday and saturday nights see a good varied selection of club nights from 90's themed ones with bingo to indie stuff to b-sides to rawk to funk and everything in between. Um Did I mention you you get free toast?! PS. Check out the toilets for years worth of funny graffiti, art and poetry!
