So if you enjoy sashimi you know how expensive it can be to get even average cuts, so you can definitely get good value out of the buffet price from just the sashimi. If u go to a sushi buffet and dont mostly order nigiris or sashimis, what are you doing. Seared nigiri- Usually I like whatever ingredients they add to my nigiri but this was not it. Chili powder really? Tasted like eating takis every time I took a bite, was not looking for chips when ordering nigiri. And as usual, barely gives you any rice, but its fine cause I can just ask for extra rice and no chili powder (which is what I got later). Also what happened to my tuna, theres like 0 sear on any of the 10 of them. Special rolls- the chico and sake roll I ordered were good, one of them (idk which) had lemon peel on it so I just chuck those away. Which also meant chucking away half the sauce lol. It was good, I prefer nigiris more still Overall the quality is lower than other restaurants, even though they look nice but you can just taste it, not putrid or bad, but lower in quality. Sashimi- my friend ate this one and she said it was lower quality also. Imo, they're huge and pretty still. Ice cream- was good as usual, in a cup but is good. Extra Wasabi definitely worse quality, it looks like play doh. Tonight we tried Sake for dinner and we're surprised again, although getting into their lot is something of a nightmare once we got through the in and out traffic jam we were seated promptly and they took our first order and filled it with perfectly executed flavorful food. Depending on the time you come you will either pay Lunch price or the Dinner price with a 90min time limit... which is pretty normal for establishments like this. The servers are very attentive, quick, and great with helping. They're more than happy to take your order, making sure you get all the rolls you want... anddd at the end you can get ice cream! One thing I didn't like was the sauce that is drizzled on top of the nigiri. When I first ordered it, I didn't know they did that.. but the more I kept ordering and the more I kept forgetting to omit that from the order... so that's my fault. I'm sure you can tell them you don't want the sauce on it. However, if you do go, definitely get the fried chicken from the appetizer section.. it's surprisingly really good and very crispy! We waited over an hour for a golden California roll and asked the waiter five times when it's going to come out. When they "checked" with the chef it was conveniently ready to go and the fish wasn't fresh, making us think it was sitting there this whole time. The overall service was awful and not welcoming at all. The manager was not nice or accommodating when we kindly voiced our concerns either. Had the worse experience today! My group of 4 sat at a table for 1 hour and was served two rolls of sushi when we each ordered 4. The waiter came by once to check on my table. Overall a good experience. The parking lot is nice and large, only issue is when idiots don't leave space while waiting in the "In N Out" line. I don't have any issues with the building overall. If you went to iHop a lot it might bother you as I've heard others complain about it but it isn't something I really notice or care about. Plenty of space inside the building, but the booths are tight for bigger folks. The music isn't really noticeable or loud which I personally think is a good thing. I'm not sure how much I like the art on the walls, it's not bad but it just screams AI and bought from temo or some random online store. Again not a big issue. Lighting is also good. So atmosphere for me was enjoyable. Service, we've been four times now and every time we have been taken to our seat quickly and able to order quickly. Overall wait time for food has been pretty solid. They've also gotten better at drink refills which had lacked our first visit. The owner came and talked to us for awhile I believe our first visit. Seems like a nice dude but it was kinda funny having him toss "the other place" under the bus. Which don't get me wrong Kwandos is total trash compared to Sake so he isn't really wrong. But he talked a lot about how they're fresh and that's why it can be slower ect. Which is fine. We've enjoyed the sashimi, I'm spacing on the mango one but it was pretty fantastic. The pepper tuna I think it was was also enjoyable. Not the greatest cuts but the fish tasted great with no smell or any negative signs outside of the cut. Rolls are solid some do seem to have a bit too much sauce for me at times but that's not a deal breaker. The last two times the rice ratio has also been a lot better. Biggest issue might be too much krab. But they have plenty of other rolls without too. The Sake, Chico and Skyway rolls all are pretty delicious and I'm spacing on others we liked. The Avatar was good but was one I do wish had less sauce on it. Now our biggest issue has been getting the check. Every time we've had to wait for our ticket to check out. That's been a bit annoying. The men's restroom didn't seem to have any AC in it on 7/5/24 but Chico was HOT too, so maybe they just had a faulty unit over that side? The dessert seemed to be skippable, we've not had any of it just yet. But saw the ice cream is those old school plastic mini tubes with the wood spoons. Which that's a pass for me. Truthfully everyone has a right to their own feelings and experiences at this place, but my group had a wonderful experience. It's a newer concept/idea of a restaurant in Chico and I don't understand why people are getting frustrated about the layout because it "still looks like iHop" because it doesn't. You do have one server who takes your orders, but all of them do their very best to help each other out or if you have questions about the menu or anything. I went with a group of 3 of my girlfriends and ordering was pretty easy going and lax. Yes there is time between waiting for your food and ordering the next round, but the all you can eat is not there so you can win some type of award for being the most gluttonous. They do very well at paying attention to when your table is ready for another round, even if it is another server alerting your server. Also the food was very good! We tasted a lot of the specialty rolls, sashimi, and nigiri and it all came gorgeously presented, tasted good, and it was easy to share different rolls to taste since we all did the all you can eat. As long as you are finishing your food they will serve you again. No need to rush it.
