On January 11, 2020, my husband and I took my mother-in-law's treasured fox jacket into Sakowitz furs to have it re-cut into a vest, a muff and a hat. As we entered the store, a very rude voice from far away rang out asking what we wanted. We looked around to see who was calling out to us and noticed a saleswoman sitting at a desk looking at us. No "hello, how are you?" from her, just the repeated demand, what did we want. I would have left the store at this point if it weren't for the good reviews of Sakowitz Furs on Yelp. Now I wish I had. We introduced ourselves, she did not introduce herself (we learned her name, Natasha, from the sales receipt!) and explained that we would like to speak to the tailor to have the fur jacket re-cut. She said she could handle that; we could not talk to the tailor. We spent a good deal of time explaining what we wanted, and showed her repeatedly how to turn the collar and the lapels on the new vest. I also showed her how the muff could be made from one of the sleeves, by simply shortening the sleeve and finishing the edges, thus ensuring a tight fit for my hands inside the muff and saving fur for another purpose. She then asked for the full payment of $1656.12 up front and promised the new garments for February 18. We were quite taken aback, but paid up (another mistake on our part). We left astonished at the low level of customer service we had just suffered through, from a furrier! The garments were not ready on the 18th. I picked them up on the 22nd and was astonished at the poor results. The hat actually hurts when I put it on, it is so small, and doesn't cover even the top of my ears. It is unwearable. Natasha's only response was that it was my head she (not the tailor) measured: implying what? That my head grew bigger? The muff is enormous, so wide that the ends cannot be properly closed around my wrists, ensuring that the wind will whistle through it. And the vest is the saddest part of this story. Somehow the lapels were refashioned so that there are two large lumps just below the neckline (imagine what that looks like) and the nice full pelt lapels that we had agreed upon with Natasha were thin uneven strips. Natasha's comment: that's how we always do it! Throughout this conversation, there were other Sakowitz employees watching and listening: no one stepped in with an apology or a suggestion to improve the work. My husband called the store to follow up with the situation and left a message. No one has returned his call. My mother-in-law's fabulous fox jacket (with pelts for them the Hudson Bay Company) has been ruined by Sakowitz Furs, at great expense to me. No one should trust Sakowitz Furs with any tailoring work. read more

I stored my fur here over the summer, my husband picked it up for me in November while I was away, I came home the week after he picked it up, I was looking forward to wearing my beautiful fur coat but it smells like it's been sitting in an old woman's closet. I took my furs in for cleaning and repair. I got there around 10:30 on a Saturday morning and had no problem parking right in front of the door. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. The staff was friendly and attentive. Ruben Montenegro in particular gave excellent customer service and made me feel valued and appreciated. Last year (2018) was the fIrst time I set foot in Sakowitz Furs...the matriarchs in my family have had a long standing business relationship with the company. After I lost my 97- years old grandmother in June 2018 I didn't miss a beat wIth her mink...I hauled it off to Sakowitz Furs like she always did. So in October 2018 I walked into the business, already still dealing with the loss of an incredible soul, I was not greeted by the blonde, elderly woman who was sitting near the front door when I entered. I stood in front of her, holding my beloved grandmother's fur, waiting to be acknowledged. It never happened! I finally approached the elderly woman, greeted her, and asked if she could help me. The woman had a horrible, unjustified, combative, and evil disposition. I was immediately under attack! I felt like turning around and walking out. I was verbally assailed by the aging woman for no reason at all. I thought that perhaps she was having a bad day. I tried to engage her when she clearly did not address me as a customer, treated me as if I was a bother, and began to assail me for coming to Sakowitz Furs. I've never experienced such hostility...and without valid reason! I made it through the saga and wish I could find someplace else to store my grandmother's fur. I will be picking up the fur in December 2019. I will make every effort to avoid this highly toxic, obviously mentally ill, elderly, blonde woman. Save yourself the trauma and avoid her at all cost should you decide to have Sakowitz Furs handle your furs. You've been WARNED! read more

My experience with Sakowitz Furs has been fantastic. They took my mother's fur stole from the 1970's and repurposed it so it is fabulous and modern. I have also purchased two other furs, a fox stole and a mink jacket, and I am very happy with both of them. You cannot beat their quality construction. This place took OVER 2 MONTHS to alter a fur vest. I was told it would take ONLY four weeks. Not only is the staff incredibly rude, they are deceiving about the time to alter. If I had known how long it would take, I would have brought the vest somewhere else. I came into Sakowitz at the beginning of January. Not only was I ignored for the first 15 minutes, but the sales consultant that assisted me conveyed that she would rather be doing anything else but assist me. Natasha, the rude sales rep, then told me she would call me in when it was ready. It's mid-March and still NO call. Then when I had called to remind them that about my alterations, the staff there acted as if they lost it, which frightened me due to the fact that I hold a lot of sentiment for this item. This place was recommended to me by my mother's friends and I am terribly disappointed in their customer service and over all apathetic attitude. This place may have been the place to go for fur coats in the 60s and 70s, but a few words to my fellow Generation Y cohort: Take your fur somewhere else, because it looks like this place is going down hill. Also, their interior decor needs a serious facelift. Someone needs to tell their interior designer that the 80s are not back and the gaudy outdated staircase and tacky statues got to go. Edit: Check pricing too. The sales rep initially tried to charge me $1700 to alter a rabbit fur vest, but I eventually talked her down to $600. read more

Very unprofessional, rude and totally irresponsible. Paid for fur storage and special services in April 2017. Check cleared bank 3 days later in April. Received a statement on May 25, 2017 dated May 16, 2017 for storage and late fee. I immediately called and left a very detailed message. I received a return call the next day and lady was to check and call back in 30 minutes. I never received a call back. Today, June 2, 2017 I called once again and talked to the same woman and explained this was my third time to reach out to clear account. She told me there was a balance due and I once again explained for the 3rd time that payment was made and gave her the amount, date of payment and check number. She in turn said oh I see but was for smaller amount and was only for special service not storage. She said let her check and she would call back. Well finally she called back and said sorry their mistake and account was paid in full. I will be looking for new storage as I have been unhappy with rude staff for several years now. read more
