Well... I love the store but I was so disappointed in the greeting of the woman running the business the evening we went. We met family there that have lived there a very long time. We hurried after work on a Friday from Houston area. We were excited to be able to go feel the quaintness of this special town at Christmastime. The Olive Oil store was the first we picked I said as soon as my husband and I got out of the car "I want to go there!" : ) My goodness, if we hadn't been purposely ignoring the fact that the lady was sarcastic and completely uninterested our excitement to keep looking around would have been instantly zapped. Precious store...that could be so much more if there was a friendly (even slightly friendly) person (one customer described her as grumpy) was in charge of the store. This store sells an extensive and creative collection of plain and flavored olive oils and balsamic vinegars. On the plus side, their products are delicious, and the staff at the store are quite good at making suggestions and combining flavors in an interesting way. But that's the only reason that I am giving them any stars at all. Rather than buying in the store and risking putting them in my suitcase to get them back home, I ordered four items from their web site. One of the bottles arrived broken, and that's when I found that their customer service ends at the door to the store. Long story short, they have refused to compensate me for the broken item or to help me pursue a damage claim with the Post Office. My efforts at communication with them are ignored, and it is now my understanding that they will be refusing to accept return of the unbroken bottles. Truly one of the worst customer service experiences it has ever been my great misfortune to experience. Update: Ultimately the only way I could get satisfaction on this purchase was to file a claim with PayPal, which was resolved in my favor. I mailed the items back to the address PayPal provided over a month ago, and a couple of weeks later, the seller attempted to have the refund reversed, stating he had not received the return (which had been sitting at the post office). The box was returned to me yesterday. According to PayPal, I don't have to return the item again, because it was the seller's responsibility to have correct information on file with them (I will most likely donate it to a food bank, and if they won't accept it, throwing it away). Absurdly, infuriatingly bad customer service. read more

Well, I finally made it over there during business hours. Completely disappointed. Yelpers, there are definitely better quality shops in Austin for all your olive oil and balsamic vinegar needs (see my review for Con Olio). They don't mark the products with information regarding origin, date pressed, type, etc. Plus, everything is already bottled, and who knows how long it's been sitting there. Everything I sampled tasted exactly like the rancid low quality stuff you can buy at any grocery store. Very disappointed. read more

My daughter lives in Salado and took me to this store. They were closed a couple different times I had HOPED to return but I finally caught them open when I had my husband with me to sample a number of different vinegars and oils. I LOVE their 25 yr old Balsmic Vinegar and Garlic Oil and Parmesan Garlic Oil but my daughter accidentally threw away the list I had marked to order from once I got home in California. When I go BACK, I will do the taste test OVER again to decide what the others ones were that I loved. I have had 3 shipments so far and never a broken bottle. We visited the store on a spur of the moment road trip. It was a pleasant experience, the clerk was very knowledgeable about the many different flavors. She shared how she incorporates different types into her own recipes. Taste the balsamics by taking sips of them not by dipping bread.
