It's good to take note of their weekly specials and plan your meals accordingly. Yesterday I tried out a few of their sit down items like their steak tartare and French fries. Not bad at all but the tartare was lacking something and I don't think it would hurt if they offered more toasted baguette points for the tartare. Fries were fine. Decor is gentrified vintage shabby chic. Mismatching grommetted chairs, Formica tables , and vintage glassware in display and for sale. You don't come here everyday but it hit me how much Verdun has changed since I moved here. Before Verdun Beef, it was an Italian sandwich counter that also had amazing gelato. Before that, it was the old Cafe Baobab and before that it was one of the last secondhand English bookstores in the Southwest. It's kind of sad that the old Verdun is quickly disappearing.

Hidden Gem in verdun !…read more I decided I wanted to make a fancy cheese board and didn't wanna go all the way to Atwater market so I stopped at Copette and came here in hopes of some fois gras.. they didn't have any home made ones but I did find a nice one for 15.99 pre packaged. They have a great selection of meats and veggies and it's nothing outrageous. They have a great cold cuts counter with a bunch of people working so you don't have to wait like you would at the iga counter plus meat wise is not comparable. Awesome spot glad I checked it out I will be back :)

J'étais convaincue qu'il s'agissait d'un client, vu la facilité avec laquelle il se permettait d'être irrespectueux et intimidant -- mais non, il a confirmé être le gérant de ce commerce. Coming from Rue Jean Talon, it was a shop we passed by upon entrance as we made our way toward the produce section. We ended our day a bit early and decided to do a wine night. What's a wine night without something to munch on?! My friend and I bought cheese and olives, but thought charcuterie would make this snack complete for the evening. We chanced upon the stand and upon closer inspection of the offerings, there were a few things of interest. They had a special price for the Creton terrine that evening, but we were more interested in cured meats instead of terrines. I was interested in something that was comparable to prosciutto, but unfortunately, it was only sold in bulk. Since we wanted something a little lighter, we settled on Coppa. Since we were unsure of how many ounces, the guy at the counter helped us ration out our portion based on how many slices we could eat. That was much easier to figure out, so we settled on 10 slices total. Custom packed and purchased, it was a nice addition to the evening. Should have found this sooner! They had other great selections such as Chorizo, Bacon, Salami and Figatelli. The terrines also looked yums, but it would have been too much to split between the two of us. Still, worth a look or stop by!

They also have prepared meals and other tasty goodies for meat lovers. Seriously there is no hope for me now that I have a serious meat shop just around the corner (sorta). The service was great, helpful and friendly. Butchery is a dying art and anyone with a love of food should support their local butchers. Keep in mind that if you buy steak at your local chain store supper market is cheap quality, often very badly butchered and overpriced, while a butcher has a deeper appreciation and respect for meat. You don't have to eat offal to be a meat lover, enjoying a good quality steak is sufficient and reason enough to bypass the chain store and go support your local butcher, local fishmonger and local whatever. Make friends with the owner and you'll see the good stuff that comes from this relationship. It's like going to a bar, if you're a good tipper, by the end of the night, your drinks are free.

There are some incredible marinated and prepared meats which are perfect for the bbq: massive beef ribs, pre-cooked short ribs, filet mignon brochettes, souvlaki chicken, spicy California burgers. Yum, etc. Come early, the bbq stuff sells out. There is also a great cheese and deli counter where the homemade bacon is tasty and the handmade signs to let you know about cheeses that are recently award-winning are both helpful and endearing. On the weekend there are a few small tables with umbrellas where you can sit, eat and people watch, but you're next to a (great) fish shop, so it's not romantic or anything. The staff are low key, helpful, and seem to speak at least three languages at any given time (English, French, Italian.) There is a freezer section in the back full of homemade pastas stuffed with things like panchetta and portobello mushrooms and cheap yummy homemade pizza dough. Some things are eyebrow-raisingly expensive: the multi-coloured olives and the wild mushrooms are in this category, so are some of the kooky fine vinegars, oils, teas and chocolates, and the rarer cuts of meat. This is to be expected I guess but as a local I appreciate that you can also always get fresh quality basics like eggs, milk and sour cream here.
