Should have did this a year and half ago. Had a fiberglass pool installed two years ago. OMG what a hassle, timing and cost...crazy!!! I reached out to a couple of fencing companies for a quote on a new fence. I hired Salem Fence as they gave me a great price and I felt comfortable that we were on the same page as far as what I wanted. They installed a beautiful red cedar jumbo rail fence around my property. While on site I asked Frank if he wouldn't mind having one of his guys help fix the deer fence (not installed by them) as a tree had come down on it. He said "no problem" and did it for free. After seeing how good their work was and how accommodating Frank was I trusted them to move forward with more projects... I then hired them to build a garden fence and to also make a custom metal stair rail that would curve around on a stone stair case that was built on the side of cliff. His metal worker was incredible and I was super impressed. The railing came out beautifully. I'm an interior designer and have worked with a lot of contractors, I will 1000% work with them again on my own home as well as future clients! read more

I highly recommend this company. I had a tree fall on my vinyl fence knocking out one whole panel. It didn't seem like a big job but when their employee Frank came to do the job it ended up being alot more than expected. The tree stump was a nightmare to grind down. We had a terrible experience with Salem Fence Co, INC. of Mahopac, NY that extended over a 26-month long period. We accepted their top dollar estimate of $60K plus for a pair of very large metal framed, wood clad garden gates, as we wanted to assure professionalism/experience due to the engineering component attached to their large size. The engineering proved sound, but they missed numerous deadlines for design submissions, and gate completion. When the completed gates finally arrived for installation, it became clear that the agreed upon design was not correctly realized. After numerous further delays on the delivery of corrected design, the gates were installed. However, all the wood soon radically shrunk and cracked leaving huge gaps revealing the metal armature below the planks that was supposed to be invisible. Because they hurried to get revised gates fabricated, the seasoned wood we were promised and paid for was instead green. They acknowledged the problem, which was impossible to deny (they look terrible!) and agreed to replace the wood, but then they strung us along from month to month with every manner of excuse from June through January and into the following fall, winter and another spring!  We made every effort to work with them to realize a proper finished product, and even made in person visits to the work shop to review progress and assure ourselves that our agreed upon design was being completed as promised. We had been assured by the owner, Vinny Bellissimo, that he would 'make good' on everything, and that we had his word that the issues would be resolved to our satisfaction. In good faith, we paid 95 percent of the total bill at the time he offered these assurances, so that he would not have to wait unduly for his pay given the fact that we still believed he intended to fulfill his obligations honorably. We were clearly WRONG to trust them at their word, and that is a shame since they are a small family owned business. Disappointingly, the conversation disintegrated once the payment was made: no one at Salem Fence would return emails, calls, or texts. We had to make in-person visits to the office to find out what was happening and when repairs would be done. Vinny never did 'make good' on his word. We then received a bid from another vendor to make the needed repairs, which came in at of $29,000.00. We are now being forced to take legal action to recover the cost or get Salem Fence to simply honor their word and fulfill their initial agreement. read more

When I write reviews I do so to actually help the companies do better- My hope is that a poor review will prompt the owners and managers to strive to do better. I wrote an honest review of Salem Fence. Rather than attempt to identify and fix the issues I raised, Salem Fence Company fabricated a story that my card was declined and again blamed me for their mistake. Before writing this response to their comments I wanted to make sure that this wasn't in fact the case- since I did give them my AMX card number over the phone. We have a special AMX card which can make very large purchases and it's never been declined in the 12 years we have had it- so to be absolutely certain I called American Express to ask them if Salem Fence ever attempted to make a charge which was declined. Amx Customer Service confirmed that no charge was ever attempted by this company. So friends, Please beware of dealing with this company. A company who refuses to accept responsibility for their own mistakes is not one you want to waste your time counting on. This is a real shame actually because I want local companies to do well. I want the local companies to be an integral part of the community. I shop local because I want to support the local economy. But not all local companies are worth it. After Salem Fence forgot to process my order I found the product at a local gardening store at an extraordinary discount from Salem Fence's prices. read more
