Went on Mother's Day with our family today. The food was hot and good. The patrons, the atmosphere was horrible. People left their manners home today and it's like that every time. Almost as if they see buffet and think it's all you can eat but the food will run out. Horrible. Just rude. I don't know if it's the town or the sense of entitlement. Went out looking for food and found this little cozy buffet didn't expect much out of it but I was wrong this place was amazing their fried chicken was crispy, fish was soft and tender hush-puppies were crispy from the outside and soft in the inside and the best of all was their pizza. The only buffet style restaurant that I have eaten at in years. It is very clean and the staff pays close attention to keeping everything on the buffet neat / fresh. Country style cooking with a friendly staff. The fried chicken is authentic as it gets. The chicken pastry (dumplings), country style meats / gravy and bbq chicken are really good. The side items of vegetables and salad bar are nice as well. They have a heavy selection of fried seafood on Friday / Saturday nights. They even have pizza out for the kids or those that don't appreciate down home cooking. Either you are going to be on your way somewhere or you will have to make a special trip to find this place. We hadn't been here in some time, but decided to visit one Saturday afternoon around 12:30pm, as the parking lot about half full with a number of empty tables inside. The small buffet seemed clean, but had a number of empty pizza pans. The shredded lettuce on the salad bar was wilted and brown. They were very slow to replenished depleted items. They had 3 untouched dessert pizzas but only 1 PIECE of a supreme pizza remaining, along with 3 empty pizza pans After 30 minutes, they finally brought out another supreme that was RAW in the middle. A properly cooked pepperoni pizza came out 30 minutes after that and was quickly scooped up. Same with the hush puppies, fried chicken, and the pound cake (which was delicious). The fried chicken, yeast rolls, and pound cake were the only items which were any good. The hush puppies and pizza crust were very tough, probably from far too much mixing of the dough. We couldn't figured out what the banana pudding was at first, but it was BAD regardless! This pizza / country buffet was very disappointing, mediocre at best given the low cost of $7.99 per person (pre-paid). Service was slow as we were on our 2nd trip before we got anything to drink and surrounding tables were stacked with dirty plates and food scraps for at least 30 minutes, no doubt attracting the flies we were fighting most of our time there. I've had better buffets locally, and better food and pizza just about anywhere. read more

I was out in Salemburg for a week at the NC Justice Academy. Salem Pizza did me right and was delicious. Really good fried chicken, pretty good pizza, good "Italian" food, and really nice waitresses. They also serve a gallon of soda, which helps to get through class. read more

Rode over from Hope Mills to check this place out--so glad we did! The buffet was full of great home-cooked southern dishes. The bbq was good, the turnips tasty, the beef stew was hot and the gravy meaty! There was also pizza on the buffet, along with their mouth-watering dessert pizzas-in chocolate chip, strawberry and pineapple. There was a big variety of breads and items on the salad bar. (the bacon bits were REAL--not imitation) But the best item on the buffet was the homemade cheese biscuits (I could eat my weight in those delicious morsels!) We had the luck to sit next to the owner who informed us of the variety of foods that can be found on different evenings. We will be going back on a Thursday for rib nite & Friday's seafood buffet. read more

My husband and I went for the first time a few months back and we loved it. The price was good. They have a reasonable amount of desserts and had different kinds of fried foods, which I love because I had the fried fish! They could have very good there were a few pieces that were fried a little too long but never the less it was good. they even had shrimp, fried chicken and their devil crabs are so good! In my 84 years having been to hundreds of buffet restaurants, Salem Pizza is in the top ten! My wife comes here several times a year with her Women's Auxiliary Church Group but this my first time ever. The pork on the ribs just falls off. I had four helpings of ribs, fried chicken breast, yams, broccoli with melted cheese sauce, salad bar, cole slaw, roast beef, banana dessert, chocolate chip dessert, red velvet cake and - yes - even some hush puppies which I as a Damned Yankee never eat. We came to NC to manage a multi million dollar retirement community in Raleigh and after four years decided to stay and become "tarheels". We built a country home out in the sticks and live a quiet retired life. You can bet I will want to return for their famous seafood buffet on friday nights. Food is ok....sometimes better than others. A buffet so convenient for a group of hungry teens. Usually packed with locals so if you are from the area, you'll likely see someone you know or who knows you. The vegetables on the buffet are usually pretty good, cooked country-style. For those "foreigners" who may be at the Justice Academy, drive to the local signal light, turn left and it's a couple of miles out on the left. Yeah, that's the way you get there. We use to love this place back when the parents of the current owner ran and managed it. Since then, it has went downhill somewhat! Seems like trying to save money and taking shortcuts with the business are not paying off. I hear some of the locals complaining about it also. The buffet is not replenished as often leaving you having to wait on some food items to come out which is bad when you are in a hurry. The fried chicken is the best around though and the chicken pastry is awesome when you can catch it on the buffet. The country cooked vegetables are also great! They need to have more variety of pizzas out and keep them fresh and replenished more often! Besides, isn't pizza in their name? The Friday and Saturday night seafood buffet is not all that! There are better seafood restaurants around that have better tasting seafood! I guess it's all in the seafood breader that is used and most local seafood restaurants use Breader that is manufactured locally here in NC. Salem Pizzas is kind of bland with only a little flavor. We still eat there but mostly for the fried chicken and country vegetables. As long as that stays good, I guess we will still be eating there. read more
