First time coming here, I was in the mood for a hot dogs since a few of the other places were closed or there was a long wait. Thankfully this place had no wait! The owner was very nice and friendly! He was friendly and attentive. The menu was a bit small but I was so solely in the mood for hot dogs anyways. I have been living in Yorkville for over a decade. This place has caught my eye on multiple occasions but never had the will to go in because I'm lazy. Although, my boyfriend convinced me one afternoon to try it out and we were not disappointed! 100% better than Portillo's. He got his classic Jumbo Chicago Dog and was not disappointed. I got the combo of Italian beef sausage and WOW!!! I have shared this place with my sister (very picky child) and although she got the chicken tenders she said they were not hard, dry, or nasty. On a separate occasion we came back with my son, he loves the Chicago dog! I've craved this place since the first time I visited. I don't see why it's not more popular especially in a small town that has basic restaurants. Disclaimer: I had pictures of the food but since than I'd deleted them. I really enjoyed my visit to Salerno's. It was around lunchtime on a Wednesday and it was pretty busy. There are a few tables on the inside (all full). This seems more like an eat on the bed of your truck kind of place anyway. I ordered the Chicago Style Hotdog, hand cut fries and a chili cheese dog. The fries stole the show. In fact, and I don't say this lightly, these are some of the best fries I've ever had. I'm coming back for those fries. What a cool little hot dog stand! My wife ordered a cheese dog with the works, for myself it was their massive Maxwell Street Polish along with an order of fries. We were very surprised to find a hot dog stand, that actually had excellent hot dogs! The dogs and Polish were cooked to perfection.... not like some other places where there overcooked, rubbery or some kind of mystery meat in them. The fries we're homemade and very similar to Gene and Judes. It's been hard for us to find a place for a good hot dog lately..... not like the "good old days" where you'd just about throw a stone and find a place with good "dogs". Good place. It's hot dogs so not a lot needs to be explained. Corn dog very good. Chicago dog also very good. I think they steamed the dogs. The fries are good. And I got like 4 potatoes worth with a large fry. I also love the fact that I got ketchup in small containers instead of the dang packets. Tried Salerno's last summer which was disappointing. So since the school was having a fundraiser recently and I read all the terrific reviews I gave them another try. The beef was good, but the juice they put it in, was super salty, yuck! My kids said they didn't want it because it was so salty and half of the fries were so hard. The dog crunched down on them like they were bones....they need a new cook who knows how to cook. read more

Zooming through Yorkville on a crisp fall afternoon, I couldn't help but notice this bright yellow cartoon style building glowing in the sunshine. I did a quick U-turn suspecting this might be a Hot-Dog-Hut painted in the classic flagship colors of Yellow, Red & Blue. It's a whimsical color pattern exclusive to Vienna Beef products. The 'Neon' sign flashed "OPEN" for business. I did a grab and go with a snapless Chicago Style Dog minus a Poppy Seed Bun and not a sliced tomato to be found. But from one onion lover to another, these were chopped in perfect precision and slathered generously for your tasting pleasure. Hit the spot! At that point I was a happy camper capable of overlooking Salerno's rendition of the classic Maxwell Street Polish. Your quoted a 6-minute wait time for a sausage link dominated by overpowering bread and mustard. The grilled onions make a scant appearance and the sport peppers are accounted for, but the sandwich is out of whack! Salerno's demonstrates that 'Chicago Style' is completely subjective and doesn't necessarily reflect the taste and opinion of management! I guess it's OK to wing-it! read more

Since our recent move to Aurora area we have been looking for replacement for our favorite food places at our previous address. Gene & Judes in River Grove was our closest or Jimmy's if we were in Chicago are great hot dog stands Tried Salerno's twice and it is our new Go To place. Hot dogs are also Vienna but are a little bigger than our old haunts. Also like pickle strip rather than relish. Adds crispness and no soggy bun . Fresh cut fries are also a bit better in that they're consistently cooked just right, not under & soft or over & burnt To all the criticisms about price blame Joe Biden for the increased costs. Better to raise price than lower quality Only negative comment is the hot dogs are so good I might never try the Polish. read more

Took a drive to YORKVILLE to try out Salerno's. Excellent food! The hotdogs were cooked to perfection! Not standing in the water to long. French fries are to dye for!! Really nice find along 34 in Yorkville. Ordered ahead and walked in, paid and brought food home. Got two dogs and fries. Didn't realize the dogs didn't come with tomatoes but that's not the end of the world. Dogs were great. The fries steak the show. I saw on Facebook that some folks were talking about not getting enough fries. Meaning they ordered a small instead of large. Well I wasn't going to make that mistake. Fries are outstanding. The only place even close was Mr. Beef and Gyros in Oswego, but they closed, so Salerno's wins best fries in the area hands down. Dogs. Great Vienna Beef dog. Wish they had steamed poppy seed buns, but even without, this is a great Chicago dog. I love the way they slice the pickles. Chili cheese dogs. Delicious. Messy. Perfect balance of chili, cheese, and onions. The snap of the Vienna Beef dog is fantastic. Polish. They serve it a few different ways. I've tried them all. My favorite is on the French roll with mustard and onion. Such a treat. Beef. I hate to do this, but this is the only strike against them. There are a few different styles of Italian beef, and I just prefer a great deal more spice and seasoning to mine. I'll take this one in a pinch, but it is a little bland. Finally had the opportunity to stop in to check out the "Chicago Style Hot Dog" in Yorkville. This was a throwback to my teen age life. This is not a '50s place, it is the presentation of food as it was back then. A real focus on the quality provided: Vienna beef hot dogs (slightly longer than the bun), fresh cut fries, mustard, relish, onions, sport peppers, celery salt. This is what I got as a kid, and if I closed my eyes, I was there. My wife made the same comment when we got back in the car.
