I pass through Durant regularly going from Tulsa, OK to Dallas, TX. This trip was no different except I had a group of guys and we were on our way home from a fishing trip on Lake Texoma. Mind you, we're all regular guys, but each of us are uniquely well travelled as professionals in our fields. On our way home we saw a couple of billboards that called this restaurant out as nationally acclaimed. None of us had been here before so we thought we'd try it out. We all were served hot food and left with full bellies, but much was to be desired. I am not here to speak poorly of this locally owned and operated dining establishment but I'll say it did leave much to be desired. The service was good however. I must say the hostess seated us promptly and our server was friendly but that's about as good as it got for me. The restaurant itself seemed oddly dim or not lit very well. We were in around 1 PM on a Saturday and it was, well, dingy. The menus were falling apart, our table and chairs didn't look like they'd be in use much longer and the overall appearance on the side wasn't much better. The food did come out piping hot as expected for a Mexican restaurant. I'll give them kudos for that. The food we all had though wasn't all that good despite the gargantuan portions. They do give you a ton of food here. One friend ordered a 'small' plate of nachos and I think 3 of the 4 of us could have filled up on that alone! Everything to me tasted canned and not fresh. This for me takes away from any dining experience. I like freshly prepared food. I am good with canned if it's done well and doesn't at least taste like it's fresh from a can or bag or from the freezer. So overall, this wasn't a horrible place to eat, but I had higher expectations. Odds are I won't stop in here again, but don't let my opinion alone be a reason to not try this place out. I'd encourage anybody to stop in and give it a whirl. You may like it where I didn't. And take advantage of the free queso for checking in on yelp!

Oh my, a really friendly bar! Got away from the Coctaw casino for a bit and found this gem! The General Manager walked right up and introduced herself as Charlotte and made me and my brother feel right at home. 4 miles from the Choctaw and we found ice cold beers at half the price. Highly recommend! Oh and the world's largest peanut is a few blocks away in front of city hall.

This was part of my child's chicken strip that was as hard as a rock. There was no way that my 5 year old daughter could eat this.

This used to be my favorite Mexican place. They have been bought by another local place that went under and i can tell you it's probably not gonna be long before Salita's goes under. The food was definitely not the quality that we had with the original owner! My quesadillas were cold, my husband's enchiladas tasted disgusting and my daughter's chicken strips were sent back because they were almost burnt and too hard to eat. When they came back out they were the same... the grease they were using needed to be changed. The waitress was nice and told us that we would not be charged for the child's chicken or our drinks but even at that, for two dinners and a child's enchilada, it was almost $50!!!! Unfortunately I'm done with Salita's or Sport's City. Take your money elsewhere.

Stopped in based on it being the only restaurant in Durant with a review on Yelp. Upon seeing lots of police cars in the lot, I knew it must be a good restaurant since they eat out a lot and I would think would go to good places. The dish to get is the one they label their best seller, the Fireman's Special, which is either chicken or fajita steak over rice with queso on all of it. Trust me, the queso soaks in to the rice making it so delicious. I'm considering asking local tex mex places to try and make this dish.

Situated on the main drag of Durant, Oklahoma, Salita's looks fun from the outside with separate entrances for the restaurant and companion bar, Saluter's. With a Tex-Mex selection of burgers and enchiladas, the menu is likewise fun, including dinners such as Labor Inducing Tacos, Mark's Mess and Popeye (you guessed it, that last one involves spinach. I'm not sure what the first one involves.) There is a pretty fair selection of the usual, various combination plates, fajitas, quesadillas, etc. I went with the El Marco - two enchiladas and a taco. Service was fast, polite and seating on the patio provided a nice view of the sunset and passing traffic. The taco was okay - sort of like Taco Bell with slightly better meat and trimmings. The enchiladas didn't fare much better; same type of pasty ground beef and a stick of jack cheese in the enchiladas. The bland refried beans and taste-free rice actually elevated the meal somewhat. On the margarita scale from 1 to 10; 1 being " this rocks the salsa" to 10 being "Christ Jesus get the taste out of my mouth", it gets a 5. Having said that, I literally didn't finish my meal for fear of bad Taco Bell flashbacks. Thank God for cilantro and guacamole, the condiments that care. There might be more to those comical entree names that meets the eye.

I've been here a couple times with family. Grew up on Tex-Mex in Ft. Worth. I'm not saying I'm a expert, but the food is decent. My parents had the enchiladas, they said they could have a little seasoning in the meat. I had the Chili Relleno this time. It was very tasty. I was wishing there were 2 on the plate! But I did get the lunch special, and I really didn't need 2! The rice and beans where about the same as they are everywhere. Chips and salsa where good. The service was ok, I had to stop someone to get a refill on my tea.

A friend and I stopped in for a late lunch, we were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess. Through my Yelp check-in and we received free Queso along with our complementary chips and salsa. I love Chili Relleno's so asked if the Chili Relleno's were homemade and the waiter said they were frozen - he was not sure if they were homemade then frozen or bought from a vendor. He said the tamales were homemade, so I ordered the tamale plate without rice. My friend ordered the Chicken fajitas. When our order came out it looked and smelled good, they were very generous with the chicken fajitas, my friend said very tasty and happy with her lunch. The tamales were a huge disappointment, they looked and tasted like Hormel canned tamales - one bite, and there was no way that was homemade. When the very nice waiter came back to check on use, I told him I did not like the tamales - he asked if I would like something else, I did not so he removed the tamale plate from our check - that was excellent customer service.

Stopped on the way through town for lunch. Got the fajita quesadilla served grilled. Came with guac and sour cream. Great food portions for the price, tasty too. The bathrooms are luxurious. Fast service. We're in and out and back on the road in 30 minutes. read more

Best chips ever, must get the quest! Th cup for drinks huge which is great! The servers normally are pretty nice. Only not so great thing would be the food is sometimes warm/cool and not hot, but I like my food really hot so not going to go down a star. read more

We ordered Fajita Chicken Taco Salad and Monterey Chicken- chips and cheese dip were complimentary - when Taco salad came it was soaked in cheese dip, very bland (no sour cream or salsa, or guacamole) - chips were average- salsa was pretty good and cheese dip was free thanks to check-in at Yelp- glad it was free- not good at all- Monterey chicken was average - service was good- greeter was nice- we won't be back! Expensive for less than average food... read more

Our first visit since the new owners. It seems he is more concerned with making more profits than his customers. At first, I thought that bowl of salsa was empty, but there was about an inch of salsa in it. I watched other diners and it seems that it is some sort of portion control. Thank Goodness that the absolutely awesome staff is still there so far. So, now I guess that Salita's will just become another chain run restaurant instead of the wonderful family owned restaurant that realised customers were the reason for success. read more

Horrible, low quality food. The chicken inside my enchilada had no flavor and tasted like it was frozen and then microwaved. The sour cream sauce was piled on top and was congealed. My husband and I ordered different dishes (him the Policeman's Special and mine was the Marquita), but they were EXACTLY the same except his was gigantic and the sour cream sauce was on top of his buried rice and beans. The only dim light in this restaurant was the incredible service provided by a waiter who accommodated my request to have a side of soup (which was pretty good) instead of rice and beans. I'm from Texas, home of Tex-Mex and my first taste of Oklahoma's attempt was VERY underwhelming. Neither me nor my husband finished our meal and that's really saying something since we usually eat first, ask questions later. Definitely will not go back unless their food makes great strides. read more

Great enchiladas - try the chicken w sour cream sauce- also liked the spinach enchiladas- finally an enchilada that is about the filling and sauce and not the tortilla . Good top shelf and 'perfect' margaritas . Attentive service from waitress Erica, bartender Brittany and rest of staff. This is my 2nd visit and I'll be back. read more

Food isn't the best but it's edible. The last 3 times I've gone, I was seated in the center of the room where the AC ducts overhead were dripping down on me. Don't waste your money on ordering a soda. The wait staff isn't that attentive to get you refills timely. read more

In Durant for the weekend visiting Choctaw casino with family and we decided to go out for some Mexican food. After reading some of the other reviews, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The hostess wasn't very friendly and looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. However, once we sat down the service picked up substantially. We had someone take our drink orders right away and our waiter came over soon after and was very friendly and accommodating. Chips and salsa was great. I ordered the tacos al carbon which is very basic but I tell you the meat was tender and delicious....not the chewy fajita meat you sometimes get. My wife had the sour cream chicken enchiladas and she said they were fantastic. Everyone at our table was impressed with the food and the service and trust me we are no easy group. If you are ever in town and want to get away from the casino for some great tasting Mexican food....double down on Salitas....it's a sure bet. Oh yeah...don't forget to try the Sopapillas with butter for desert. read more

Casual place, generous portions, and the MOST DELICIOUS shrimp quesadilla I've ever, EVER had. Chips, salsa, guac, and queso were very tasty, and cheesecake dessert was delicious as well. Mediocre score for a mediocre restaurant. Been there a few times over the last several years. Primarily when someone I was hanging out with wanted to go. Service is acceptable, food comes in decent portions with no real flavor. Spent a few nights here and there in the bar. Same story though. Usual bar prices for average drinks. Go to Jalepeño's on First Street instead. The service is better, the prices are better, and the food is flavorful. read more

Oh my, Salita's was amazing!!! We were hiking at McGee State Park and looking for a wonderful restaurant on way to Dallas -- the Yelp reviews were great and we went to Salita's. Yum!!! We are so glad we did!! We had LaHoma's Special, Grilled Cheese for the little one and queso. Everything was delicious and portions were big!! Service was wonderful as well. Then they came and sang for my husbands birthday :) and they brought a delicious fried ice cream. We loved Salita's and can't wait to come back!! BTW: even though they have a bar on the other side of the building, there was zero smoke or bar sounds on our side of the restaurant. The ambience was extremely pleasant -- smelled great, nice music, comfortable seating and fun decor. The service and food were great!! We look forward to our next visit!! read more

Salita's was established March 14, 1994 in Whitesboro Texas. Salita's was successful in Whitesboro but the owners, Mark and Markita Rawlings, had an opportunity to come back to their hometown and establish Salita's in Durant, OK. On August 9, 1994, we opened Salita's in Durant and have been setting high standards for our food and employees ever since. Salitas is nationally acclaimed for our authentic Tex-Mex cuisine. We use only the freshest ingredients to prepare our made-from-scratch menu items. Feast on everything from our hand rolled enchiladas to our sizzling fajitas. Within a few chips and minutes my plate arrived. Decently portioned and hot. Initial thoughts were "man, I'm hungry" and "that came quick!". It did not disappoint. Have I had better? You bet I have... was this good? Well... I finished it without complaint. Decent food, clean and welcoming, good price and a place anyone would be proud to say "I go to Mi Casa for Mexican food". Over the holidays we stopped in for our usual Brisket Fajitas & they were freakin incredible. In fact, the whole dinner was freakin amazeballs. The Chef made us some top shelf Margaritas with Grand Marnier. That's the way we make them. We added a shot of don julio and a fresh lime & they were Superb. OuiOui :)... The Brisket Fajitas are where it's at here. I have never had any other Brisket Fajitas better. These are the best ones we have ever had. I posted a video so you can see how charred they are on the edges but so so tender & juicy on the inside & seasoned beautifully. Superb. Winners Circle all the way Jose haha. We also LOVE the service here. The Chef always stops by to ask how your dinner was & the place is always super clean. Luke informed us that it was his favorite side and he brought one out for us anyway as a surprise, such a class act! The sides were pretty large for 2 ppl. We barely were even able to eat half. For dessert, we had the key lime tart, so good. Literally no complaints from start to finish. The ambiance, service and food were worth every bit of 5 stars! One of the best experiences we've ever had.

Okay, their food does not taste bad, although a little overpriced. But my main complaint, is they employed a THIEF/HACKER.. Okay so no long ago my mother's bank called her telling her that someone tried to use her credit card in a Las Vegas Wal-Mart, and it flagged and denied the thief/hacker's client's attempted use. So we learned from her bank, that a huge number of their customers had their credit card information stolen from Salita's. So we contacted Salita's and they were not honest. They told us that it was because they had some hackable software on their credit car machine, and they have since replaced it with new software. This cannot be true. Because the date that my mother's card number was used, was after the time Salitas supposedly updated their software. Then I talked to someone who manages the wait staff later, and he blamed my mother's bank for it. So I called mom's bank again. The woman I spoke with in the bank's security department told me Salitas are lying. She told me that all the other area banks have traced stolen card numbers back to Salitas also. She also confirmed that they, along with other area banks had had their customer's credit card information stolen many times after the date Salitas management claimed their software had been replaced and had not happened again. My advice is, if you eat at this place, or call and order meal by phone, NEVER read your credi/debit card number to them, or use it at all there. If you insist on eating there, PAY CASH! read more
