Sally was not a part of our original wedding plans, but nothing about our day was what we planned! We live in Chicago and were scheduled to get married in Atlanta, GA on March 28, 2020. When it became clear around March 13th that we would *not* be traveling to Atlanta to get married, I started googling "elopement photographers in Chicago" and found Sally. At the time, she was one of the few photographers in the area I found who advertised that she shot small weddings and elopements, and she had beautiful portfolio shots of these smaller weddings alongside more traditional, larger weddings. Originally, I reached out to Sally to see if she could photograph and elopement on our original date here in Chicago. And then, when it became clear that we would be facing an imminent shelter in place order, we moved everything up a week, and got married at noon on March 20th, and Governor Pritzker announced a shelter in place order starting that evening. So, first of all, Sally was incredibly easy to work with under the most challenging circumstances. If she can handle shooting an elopement in the middle of a pandemic on a week's notice, I can't imagine how great she is under "normal" circumstances. Day of, we were stressed to the max (remember how everything felt in March? Yeah, try getting married during that!), and Sally and her husband were reassuring, joyous, and kind. They radiated joy and excitement for us, which helped my husband and I both relax. Sally ran with every idea we had, from shots in front of the Wrigley building to holding hot dogs at Portillo's. She went overtime with us, and traveled to multiple locations all over the city to make sure we had the shots we wanted. We got our pictures back and were totally blown away. They were GORGEOUS. She captured so many details we hadn't even thought to ask about, and she made me and my husband look great. Her style is crisp, clear, and journalistic, but with just enough traditional portraiture to capture those "shots for mom" we all need. Sally was amazing! My husband and I decided to elope in August after our wedding plans got sabotaged by the Coronavirus. Our plans changed a million times because of the many challenges we found throughout the planning process. Finding Sally O'Donnell Photography was perhaps the biggest stroke of luck in our wedding planning process - I honestly could not recommend Sally enough. She traveled to Michigan to take our engagement photos and although my now husband and I had a bit of the jitters to be in front of the camera, she made us feel completely at ease and made it such a fun experience for us. I really cannot say enough good things about Sally. I found her on Instagram, a bit of a departure from my usual fact-checking way of doing things. But, I was instantly drawn into her style, and ability to capture couples at their best. Fast forward a year, and we just got our wedding pictures back. Like our engagement photos, they capture us in those hard-to-miss moments of laughter when we're relaxed and enjoying the moment, enjoying each other. It doesn't hurt that every single one is GORGEOUS. A couple more things that contributed to the "Duh" 5-star rating here... 1) Sally has always been uber responsive- she responds within less than 24 hours, often within less than half a day, which is great when there are lots of details to hash out 2) She & Nick seamlessly integrated themselves into our wedding on the day of- they're fun and personable and there was never the "hey what's that girl/guy doing sticking the camera in my face" moment. It felt like we were hanging out with friends 3) While I had a super detailed-day of timeline, I never once looked at it. Sally kept the entire bridal party on schedule, and got all of the shots we wanted without wearing everyone out. 4) From start to finish, it has been our pleasure to work with Sally & Nick. Sally and Nick are amazing. After just a few minutes of speaking with Sally during our first meeting, my wife and I immediately knew she would be the perfect person to shoot out wedding. We went on to do engagement pictures with her and her husband Nick in addition to the wedding itself. I literally couldn't find a bad thing to say about them. They go far above and beyond the standard role of wedding photographers and pick up slack wherever they see it. On the day of the wedding, they not only produced incredible images beyond what I ever hoped for, but they stepped in in so many auxiliary ways, that we had people telling us how great Sally, our wedding planner was! We had a wedding planner who did a wonderful job, and those comments are not a slight against her, merely a testament to all the ways in which Sally and Nick stepped up during the day of the wedding to become invaluable assets to making sure everything ran smoothly while also being the incredible photographers they are. The images came back after just a couple of weeks and we were absolutely stunned. Sally has such an incredible eye for staging, editing, and capturing real, beautiful moments (while still managing to make you look great)! We've gone on to become friends with Sally and Nick, and try to hang out as much as we can. They are so kind and to their core, goodhearted people.
