Here are several of my observations: The store is rather small compared to the larger jewelry stores on Canal Street (it's pretty easy to overlook, so make sure you have the right address!), and, because of that, the selection may be rather limited. However, don't be discouraged by the size. They have a larger selection for viewing upon request and are willing to custom make something for you. They're actually custom making something for me, and I am expecting to pick it up next week or so. The best benefit of being a smaller jewelry store is that the salespeople are more flexible on pricing; larger stores are not as willing to negotiate. I received a pretty good deal on my purchases. From my encounters with the salespeople, it is easy to tell that they are extremely knowledgeable in diamonds, gold, jade, and even watches! Apparently they have over 20 years of experience working with jewelry, so they can easily tell what is high quality and what is not. I bought a pair of diamond stud earrings from here. Although they are pretty small, I received compliments on them because they were so shiny and eye-catching! I actually spent over 2 hours each time I went to the store because I kept asking them questions. They were more than willing to share their wealth of knowledge with me. Not only that, but the salespeople are extremely easygoing and down-to-earth. I left the store each time feeling very comfortable. It's a very nice welcome from the uneasy feeling I get each time I enter and leave Magnolia, Lukfook, etc. It's as if the salespeople at Kings Sky are really trying to understand you and find you something that you would be content with, as opposed to the salespeople at the larger jewelry stores who are either just trying to suck up to you to sell you stuff for their commission or are downright ignoring you because you decided to wear sweatpants to browse jewelry. I am really happy with this particular jewelry store. How happy? Well, this is the first review that I've written in a loooooong while. So, if you decide to go to Chinatown to buy jewelry, consider stopping by Kings Sky.

Next to Specific Gravity, chain jewelry stores feel like McDonalds -- bleak, flashy, mechanical. At this store, you can feel the loving vibrations that went into every piece. And the prices are commensurate with the art. One other thing: no matter how lovely the merchandise is, the experience of visiting, browsing, laughing (always), trying on, and purchasing is nothing without heart. Specific Gravity is staffed by gracious people, some of them artists, so that even when we haven't found anything to buy that day, we have always gone out of the store feeling that we have hung out with dear people. The Flushing store is mostly run by Jack. Most of the jewelry in this store are watches.. Mostly high-end brands, from Tudor (Little brother of Rolex), IWC, Audemars Piguet, Chopard, Tag Heuer, Ebel, Michele, Baume & Mercier, Ulysse Nardin. etc. If you like Rolex or Movado, they don't have them at this location; though they should have some at the NJ store. They have a cabinet with a few leather wallets and card cases from Alfred Dunhill that look pretty nice. Fairly priced too. They also have 2 display cases with wedding and engagement rings. If you need a battery change for your watch, or cleaning, they do that too, for a charge of course. After a robbery a few years ago, they have this new policy to keep the front doors locked during store hours and a salesperson will only open up if a customer wants to come in. That being said, once you enter, don't expect stellar customer service. Actually, the first 5 minutes in the store, don't expect anything more than a, "Hello, Welcome to Cooper Jewelers." The sales associate(s) will let you browse..and then after a few minutes, ask you if you need any help and if you'd like to try on some watches or rings. Was helped out by Jenny who was very patient with us in providing options. We arrived around closing time and had the store to ourselves for the most part. It was a much more comfortable/welcoming experience than New Top nearby & less crowded than Popular Jewelry (more selection as well!) I had to wait to have the ring resized, but the work was done really fast (about 10 - 20 mins? Can't recall any longer). Price wise, I bought it when I knew a lot less about buying gold (find out the price per gram & then the weight of the piece you're buying lol. Multiply, that's the melt value. Stores must sell jewelry for at least twice or three times the melt value to turn profit! More than that is probably kind of a rip off.) The price was somewhat consistent with the other jewelry stores, but I do believe I could have gotten it for cheaper if I'd haggled more (I believe it was ~$100-130?). The experience was pleasant though: calm and inviting. Definitely what I prefer over some of the more hectic/less welcoming shops. Jenny made a few engagement ring jokes and slipped her card to us so we could "come back for the wedding rings" soooooo be warned of that. Albeit busy, an associate (Albert) rushed to greet me and asked if he could help. As I asked if he had a piece that I wanted, he asked if I had purchased something a year ago. I was shocked to see that he had remembered me. Albert continued to guide me to my desired accessory and talked about the awesome features of the piece. He definitely knew his stuff. In addition, he asked if he could put in his two cents about the piece and I welcomed it. He said that there was a better and cheaper model. I was also shocked by this. Not only was he helping me get a better model, but he was also losing revenue in the process. I welcomed this and genuinely liked the new piece before asking what the price was. As a returning customer, he gave me a great discount. As I was a little bit suspicious I asked for a moment alone and did a quick google search of the piece. Not only did it have great reviews, but his price was cheaper than what I could find online. I decided to buy the piece. Albert came back, took out and wrapped up a non-floor model piece, and told me how to set it up and the like. I basically didn't even have to read the manual as he had so much information. Albert smiled, gave me his card, and the group of associates wished me a goodbye. What a store. Would definitely recommend them for the watches if not the awesome pricing and hospitality.
