If you're from out of town and looking for a quality salon, this place is not it. They either don't know what they're doing or don't care to provide high level services to match their premium prices. I reached out to 854 to schedule an appointment with Brian who came highly recommended. He was booked as most quality stylists usually are. Alyssa, the receptionist, recommended Jordan who (according to the bio on their website) is "an expert in personalizing color formulation and specializes in cutting edge coloring techniques". Just look at my photos and see for yourself how that could be very misleading. After looking at their premium prices I figured I'd give Jordan a shot! This was a mistake. I knew as soon as I sat down in her chair. The foil placements and just her overall attitude let me know I will not be leaving the salon happy that day. I paid $196 for a sloppy job that left me in tears and with split ends because there was zero effort to even get the cutting done correctly. I reached out to them the next day trying to get it fixed. I will say they did get me in as soon as they could but would charge me an additional $94. There was not a single word of apology and Jordan instead did the absolute opposite and decided to just bleach my entire head. There was no conversation of how I wanted it done or that she would try her hardest to fix this. To make matters worse, the owner Mellisa, dried my hair to "make sure the color was good" had the audacity to tell me my "hair doesn't want to take color" knowing damn well it's her girl that did not pay attention and missed a bunch of spots the first and second round of coloring. You would think with all the competition in town, she would at least pretend to care about new clients that walk through her door. A simple apology goes a long way. This was hard for me write as I do my best to uplift women and support women owned businesses. But they did me dirty and made no effort to fix it, so I will never return or speak highly of this place. I've been getting my hair done for 16 years now and I have never felt so mistreated. $290 and I'm embarrassed to be seen in public. The only good thing that came from this experience is that I realized my regular girl (in Annapolis) is a rockstar and I should never ever take her for granted. Take your money and time somewhere else, ladies. This place ain't it. read more

I came down for my aunts wedding and I am from out of town so I started researching salons near where I was staying and Google lead me to this salon and I am so glad I chose to come here. Jordan was amazing with my hair she did exactly what I wanted and more!! Alyssa did my makeup and eyelash extensions and I am so happy with the outcome. It looked so professional and elegant and natural. Everyone in the salon was so nice and polite and made someone from out of town feel so welcome!! These ladies are phenomenal! Not only do they excel at their craft, but they are super friendly as well! Their salon (in an historic home) has a warm, cozy feel, not clinical like most salons. Being from out of town made it hard to find someone to perform the service I needed. They were the ONLY salon in the area willing to open a bit early so there would be enough time to do my hair/makeup before my morning wedding ceremony at The Brampton Inn. I recently moved from a major metropolitan area and was looking for a new stylist. I tried another place first, but was disappointed by the rushed, sloppy service I got. Upon trying Salon 854, I started off with a good impression right away. The studio is nicely decorated and the staff is very friendly. Melissa has cut and colored my hair with excellent results. I have very curly hair and it can be difficult to find someone who works well with that. But Melissa took the time to understand what I wanted and do a quality cut. I was also pleased with the partial highlights I got - not too many or too few, just right. I always get compliments on my hair after a salon visit, which feels great. I had my bridal hair and makeup done here, as well as hair and makeup for the rest of my bridal party. Here are some thoughts from our experience: Pros: - Staff: Very friendly, responsive and easy to communicate with throughout the wedding planning process. - Location: Very convenient for Chestertown and surrounding area weddings. - We had the whole place to ourselves the morning of the wedding which was fantastic. Cons: - Price: I did feel as though the services were overpriced for the quality of work we received. Despite having a trial appointment with my hairstylist where I was happy with the outcome, I was not as pleased with her work on the actual wedding day. Carolyn is a perfectionist when it comes to mani's and pedi's. She takes her time and it is so relaxing. The atmosphere is sunny and cheerful!
