I have had one or two somewhat decent experiences but most of the times, I have walked out very disappointed. Haircuts are sub-par, to put it mildly. And I have yet to get a blow-out in Charleston that doesn't make me want to run home and wash my hair again so I can give myself a MUCH better blow out. After spending time talking to multiple salons to find an opening I was really thankful salon Alexandria had an opening last week. I had back and forth conversation with who I thought was a stylist, but maybe the receptionist ( a name was never given). I drove down for a 15 minute consultation, and the drive total was 3 hours. I was working with a brand new stylist that just started last week. Absolutely a kind person and really enjoyed chatting with her. I have always normally gotten my hair lighten and a full balayage. Except this time I wanted my hair darker with slight dimension added to it. I was definitely trusting them with what was needed for the style. And was quoted a bunch of different items, which was fine but looking back felt taken advantage of since I was getting something done I didn't know the steps of. My hair is still the same color it was when I came in. No darkness was really added. And the " lowlights" I was given are more streaks of blonde and not the brown I wanted. And for my cut I asked for long layers with half an inch off and face framing. Barely any face framing, and my hair isn't even at all. My left side is noticeably longer than my right. And the back of my hair you can see the middle is shorter than the out parts of my hair. When I called to see what could be done about this, all was told was for me to come back in. Even thought I explained several times I'm delivering my second baby in less than 10 days. That I can't be away from my hospital I'm delivering at, and really just wanted to know if I could get a refund of sort back. Especially since this style was just shy of $400. Not including 6 hours in total of driving between the two days and the 3.5 hours I spent at the salon. Just overall disappointed with the service given. And it just feels as if this salon only cares about making money and not finding solutions. For anyone looking to get a different color and style than they normally get, get a stylist who can prove they have done what you are asking. And question the receptionist when she is listing out 4-5 different services. This was a sad experience.. this salon not realizing how moms don't get to luxury to always get their hair done professionally. And just want to feel good about themselves before giving birth to another child. I definitely feel for the other women who were disappointed in their service from this salon. read more

The humidity and my hormones are competing with each other, and it was impossible to tamed or style with any product or tool. I decided to get either a Keratin Treatment or a Brazilian Blow Out. Over priced. You work out a coloring plan with your stylist only for it to get completely changed by the owner when the stylist consults with her. I leave looking exactly the same as when I entered (except for the professional blow out) and pay a small fortune for it. read more

Unfortunately due to a scheduling conflict on part of the salon I was not able to to get my service done. That said my review is on their customer service alone. I booked my appointment for blow dry with curls, for 4:10 this afternoon. I made the appointment online yesterday at 1pm. I received confirmation shortly after. Then I receive a call today at noon saying they had an error on their online scheduling (which took them almost 24 hours to catch?) that had only left 20 minutes for my service which was obviously not enough time. They did try to offer me another time at 3 or 5 neither of which really worked. I explained that I was out of town, had scheduled my whole day around this appointment, and didn't even have any products or tools with me to do my own hair. No one I spoke with seemed in any way sympathetic or sorry for the mistake in booking. I booked an appointment online with this salon on Tuesday for their earliest available (which was Friday at 9:15) for a root touch up and a stand alone blowout. My appointment was scheduled with Jess. I received a call and an email confirmation from them. On Wednesday I received a call asking me if I could come in earlier at 9am and I agreed. Then Thursday afternoon I received another call asking me if I would change my hairdresser from Jess to Samatha, as one of Jess's regular clients was booked with another hair dresser but Jess wanted to accommodate her. I said I did not mind as Jess was chosen by the online booking. Then again Thursday evening I get another call telling me that something came up with Samatha and they need me to reschedule to Saturday or Sunday. Are you kidding me? This is very unprofessional! I am attending wedding festivities Friday evening! Then change me back to Jess. So sorry Jess is a teacher and is teaching her kids at that time. The Lies they tell! I know some of the reviews are rough, but I honestly feel this is one of the best experiences I have had in a salon ever. I think there needs to be some general understanding when it comes to the concerns brought up. First, cancellation policies are everywhere. Sure, things happen and it sucks, but cancellation policies protect a business, employees, and their clients so everyone has a good experience. You have these for gyms, doctor offices, children activities, etc. Any person worth going to is going to have a cancellation policy. Every time I've booked at this salon, that policy has been made aware in clear terms. As far as scheduling, I think as a whole we need to give people a little more benefit of the doubt. We have a pandemic going on that's affected everyone. People have children, parents, emergencies, etc. I don't know a single parent who hasn't had to leave work to take care of a child. Also, if your stylist is sick, do you really want them pushing through a haircut and color everyone will see? I wouldn't! When I'm sick it's hard for me to do anything let alone do something where perfection is the bare minimum of the job requirement. Time is very valuable. I understand that. I also understand we have some very big moments in our life where feeling we look our best is so important, like weddings, etc. I think if we all just approached dealing with issues from a more empathetic point, I really believe people are more willing to work with everyone's needs in mind. (This isn't just about this salon in particular. I feel this is something that's a repeated issue in every review with every business.) At the end of the day, the stylists really know what they are doing when it comes to color and cuts. Even if I have to reschedule or pay a fee, I feel it's worth it. I'm not having to fix a cut or color, I feel confident when I leave my home and am around people, and I feel they do it in a decent time so I'm not spending an entire day. The salon is on the pricier side, but I've paid way more in this town for a really bad haircut by well known celebrity hairstylists to just have to come here to have it fixed. You're paying for someone to do their job with all their education and expertise to the fullest ability so you don't have to worry about it. This is one of the few places I'd say you can walk in and say "do whatever you need to do to make me look my best" and they would produce that. I'd recommend this place and Alex to anyone. read more

This was my first balayage and I picked this place based on yelp reviews and photos of their work. I made appointment with Madi and she did outstanding job on the balayage. She took her time and I was satisfied with my first bayalage. It took nearly three hours from beginning to end. Let me just start off by saying this is the absolute best salon I've ever gone to.. the girls are so friendly and go above and beyond to meet your needs and exceed any expectations you may have all while making you feel very comfortable. I am still fairly new to the area and was looking to finding someone who specializes in balayage, my hair was an all over bleach blonde and very damaged and I knew I needed a change so quite a few people recommended going to see Julie Avant. And I can honestly say THANK THE HAIRGODS for putting her in my life, she has completely transformed my hair and I have not stopped smiling since I've left the salon. I was not impressed by this salon at all. I got a partial highlight with NO cut and it was $185. The back of my head at the top, was not highlighted at all. I have long hair and I was in and out of there in just under 2 hours with a blow out. Usually, my partials take at least 2.5 hours without a cut. They do not do a lot of foils, especially for that price! The blonde color was good, not brassy. But, she put a toner in, so that helps. I never get toners and was not even asked if I wanted one. She just did it, left it on for 30 seconds, then rinsed. I was shocked they charged $35 for a toner!! read more

I have never had the urge to yelp before, until now. Overpriced for a poor job, and beyond rude employees. The environment was cold, and I was uncomfortable the entire time. The women were catty, demeaning, and treated me like a dollar rather than a person. If you want to come here, by all means, do. If you want a good experience, and leave with happy hair- go somewhere else. My hair was cut too short (give or take 5 inches), when she only promised me an inch. I wanted some highlights, and left with chunky strips that look beyond fake. For their prices, I expected good quality. Also, they push their products on you aggressively. I get it- it is a business, and they sell products as well as services. What I do not appreciate is getting eyes rolled at me when I say for the third time that I don't want to spend 150 dollars on shampoo, conditioner, and leave in creams! Gina is the Best Color Specialist Ever!! Did I say Ever!! I rock purple in my hair and this chic is the one and only to hook you up. My brown is always beautiful also. My purple and brown color absolutely lasts for months!!! I was amazed! The color products they use are the best. The Salon is so cute and a unique set-up. Lots of stylists in the house. I recently visited the salon for the fourth time for just a hair color. The color was $90. Hunter was very nice but I still had gray around the temple area of my face. She asked me if I wanted her to dry my hair and I said of course who would walk out of the salon with a wet head. My hair is short above the earlobe. I was charged $69 to blow my hair dry which took less than five minutes. tThere was nothing amazing about the blow bry, 2 hours later I looked like a mushroom head. BE AWARE ! read more

We have had several issues throughout our recent experience with Salon Alexandria. My wife first missed her appointment that was originally scheduled for Monday 11/29. She mistook her days and thought her appointment was on Tuesday 11/30. we were traveling home from Thanksgiving that Monday so she was unable to make the original appointment. The appointment was originally confirmed by my wife via text, but it was confirmed on Tuesday 11/23 almost a full week ahead of the appointment. We accept full responsibility of the missed appointment but think that a missed appointment fee of full services rendered of $242 is excessive. This cost is based off the services the stylist was to perform. The salon initially refused any sort of credit for this amount or refund due to their policies and missed revenue to their stylists. I called the salon on Wednesday 12/1 to try to come to a mutually agreeable solution for all parties. Since they claim their reasoning for the strict cancellation policy is to protect their stylists, I offered a cash tip of $100 if we could apply the $242 to a future visit for my wife. The manager spoke it over with the owner and they advised the best they could for us was a $150 credit to be used towards a future appointment, and they would try to get her in as soon as they could. They had an opening within the next hour and my wife was to get in and have her hair done by the owner herself. Upon arrival my wife requested to "Get her roots updated and a trim". The owner advised that "it would be cheaper to do highlights on the frame of your face and not your whole head". The rest of the visit went along fine, and my wife's hair looks great. Unfortunately, the owner was deceptive when it came time to pay the bill for the appointment. The final bill came out to a $144 Toner and Cut, (listed @ $68-$100 on their website) $40 Shadow Root, and a $150 T-Section (listed @ $68-$100 on their website) for a whopping $334. The salon then applied a $121 credit to the order after we were told it would be $150. We understand that on the website it states that prices vary from stylist to stylist, but it was unethical and deceptive for the owner of the business to not confirm her pricing would be substantially higher. We were already out $100+ over the missed appointment with the supposed $150 credit and I was clear we were already over budget, which is why my wife only wanted a trim and updated roots. The lack of transparency over what my wife was to be billed is sickening. The $120 given versus the $150 that was promised is the icing on the cake to seeing what the salon's true colors are. Alex should be ashamed of herself for how she handled this situation and conning people out of their hard-earned money. We have already filed disputes with both credit card companies although I doubt anything will come of it. read more

Tried this spa for the first time today. It's a small quaint place but the customer service and ambiance was excellent. The wifey got the super duper package (?) that included a "signature" 90 minute Facial, Spa manicure and pedicure, 90 minute Swedish Massage, and a shampoo with blow dry. I received whatever the "male special" was called which comprised the "Gentleman's facial" and a 90 minute therapeutic back treatment massage. Overall, the experience was relaxing and the staff was incredible. We'll probably make it a monthly ritual. read more

I felt compelled to leave a review because I've been going to Alexandria's for 2 years now and have had wonderful experiences there. Some of these reviews are clearly personally motivated, and I'd feel awful if people did not visit Alexandria's because of them. These are talented ladies that really do want to make their clients happy. If you don't like your hair, tell the stylist. Don't go on Yelp and make the business look bad just because you were too nervous or hesitant to tell them in person. An example, if I must. I used to go to master stylist Shelly (she sadly ended up moving to Hawaii with her husband). There was a time when Shelly did a balayage that was just slightly too blonde for my liking. I gave it a week to see if it would grow on me, but it didn't. So I went back, told her it was too light, and no questions asked, she darkened my hair no charge and it was perfect. Now I see Whitney, who is just as wonderful as Shelly by way. Everytime I go in, I show Whitney a picture of what I want and she magically does it. All that being said, I highly recommend Alexandrias. Love it and will keep going. read more
