It's always painful moving to a new place and finding someone who just does their "thing". You might direct them with your wants/dislikes, trying to explain what you're looking for, but they just know. Patricia is that person. She saw the chunks of "layered" hair that just sat there without me even pointing them out. And she knew exactly what to do to make sure the layers were softened up, without taking too much length out. She was direct with the course of action she was going to take and explained why she cut the way she did. Dustin is the stylist I have been searching for my entire life. As far as stylists go, I am done-zo. No need to look any further...ever. I have a really round head and when cut incorrectly, I can look like a cone head with hair...a style I had to endure from time to time because past stylists did not listen to me when I explained the shape of my head and how my hair reacts when cut incorrectly. I got my hair cut by Dustin, and wasn't sure what to expect because I usually just go to a barber. My first realization is that he really understands how and why hair does whatever it does. When you get your haircut by him you'll know what I mean. He's extremely knowledgeable and you can tell this is his passion. Most of the time it seems like someone has to cut your hair once first before they learn how to cut your hair but Dustin seem to have no learning curve and just understood how my hair grows Anyways, the haircut turned out great. Haircut shampoo and style took about an hour. I definitely did not feel like he was trying to rush which I liked. He says that it should grow out in a way that I'm not going to have to get it cut every 6 weeks like I used to, which is what I want, so hopefully that's what happens. My favorite service is his Brazilian blow out that makes my naturally curly hair so smooth when it air dries preventing the usual breakage from using hot irons. If you are looking to dye your roots do not come to this place. This is what you are going to have. I have been crying the whole day, and I gotta find another person to fix it. Dustin Berlin turned my hair from being the color of crow's feathers on Halloween to looking like I've spent the last six months living on the white sands of Tulum. My hair is the darkest possible shade of brown before black, so it's hard to color it without A) the color looking brassy B) color showing up at all. Most people say my hair is black; and I don't argue because, well, it basically is. But when I sat in Dustin's chair for the first time and he said: "Your hair is the darkest shade of brown" I knew I was in the hands of an expert-- someone who pays close attention to detail, which is an ideal trait for someone who does hair. Since Dustin's worked his magic on my head, strangers have stopped to tell me they like my hair. Prior to going to him, that never happened. People have commented on the cut, the way it frames my face, and they've asked me if my hair color is natural or if I've recently come back from vacation. I don't think there's a better compliment to receive-- especially for a hair-dresser... which leads me to my next point: Dustin is so much more than a hairdresser. He's more like an intuitive hair artist who gets to know the characteristics of his clients' hair-- from roots to tips--before understanding what's going to work. He's also open to suggestions and communicates well. He oozes with creativity, which, again, is an ideal trait for someone who does hair. Oh, and he gives level-10, transcendent head massages. Um.. yes please. It's really hard to find someone who can do hair well, especially when you have almost black hair that's SO straight it can barely hold a curl, even after using an entire bottle of hairspray. Rob Ray is a godsend. He gave me the best haircut I've had in many years, and fixed what my previous hairdresser did. He's an artist and a master of his craft. She immediately took the time to make me feel welcomed and comfortable, listened to my likes and dislikes, and really considered my hair type, underlying tones, the type of upkeep I was willing to make, and in the end what would make me happy.
