Sunny's Studio & Product Gallery - Several days after Jeff attempted to "balayage" my hair. I drove down to Kansas City to have it fixed professionally.

I recently visited this hair salon and unfortunately had a terrible experience with the stylist…read moreJeff. I requested a simple balayage and sent Jeff pictures for reference, including photos of my natural hair. He said "no problem" and scheduled me to see him the following week. When I sat down in the chair, he said "okay, so highlights?". At this point, I had to remind him of what I wanted (balayage). He had me hold the foil sheets and hand them to him as he placed them in my hair... It was not until AFTER I helped him place the foils in my hair he admitted to not "knowing how to do that fancy stuff" (referring to balayage). I started to panic but continued to give him the benefit of the doubt. I then reminded him of the shade of blonde I wanted for the balayage (we had texted ALL of this beforehand). He then tells me that there really is no such thing as different blondes. "One salon's pearl blonde is another salon's champagne blonde" - he said something like that. Then when I showed him pictures of the layered haircut I wanted, he completely butchered my hair with his scissors... He also left me unattended THREE times to cut other people's hair. He openly admitted to not cutting/coloring female hair often... To finish off this horrible experience, he doesn't even dry my hair; sends me home with wet hair. What I see after drying my own hair is just terrifying - I am in tears. I immediately drive to Kansas City and spend $400 to get it fixed. The professional stylist in KC was embarrassed for me! See the picture below from the girl who fixed my hair... This was just one angle, but the back was worse. Clearly, he didn't have the skills or expertise to do what I had asked for. To make matters worse, Jeff was not honest about his abilities and ended up doing a horrible job on my hair. All of this could have been avoided over text messages if he was honest. It's incredibly disappointing when hair stylists aren't upfront with their clients about their limitations and then proceed to do a horrible job. When we visit a salon, we trust that our stylist has the skills and expertise to give us the look we want. But instead, I am out $500 and left with this embarrassment. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this salon and would not recommend it to anyone looking for quality service and honesty from their stylist.

Dr C and his staff are amazing, He carefully explained my options and then did a beautiful job. The scars are minimal and no nerve pain at all. They took my concerns seriously and couldn't have been better before, during and after surgery!! I highly recommend Dr C for Reconstruction after Mastectomy. At least go for a consultation regardless who does your mastectomy, it makes a difference when it comes to your reconstruction!

A mixup on their end wasted a large chunk of money and they couldn't be bothered to correct it. The esthetician told me to wait "at least a month" to come back in and use the rest of my filler (even though I stated multiple times that I was fine doing it all in that appointment) & insisted she would have it waiting for me. I waited and made an appointment a little over a month later. She let me make the appointment, came to the waiting room that afternoon and told me that whoops, she had thrown it out. They offered nothing in return. Wasted my time and money and then had the nerve to tell me to just "watch for another special". I don't need a special- I need you to honor what I paid for originally or CALL me to ask me to come in before throwing out what I paid for. At the very least, call me and tell me not to come in! Very unimpressed with the lack of communication and professionalism.

With Younkers and Von Maur exiting the only anchor store left is JCPenney. And JCPenney isn't what it used to be... Every now and then Valley West Mall lands a gem like Blaze Pizza and recently European Taste that sticks, but for the most part it seems to be a dying environment. I don't feel the drive-in or carnivals are a good idea. It seems to bring problems to the area that those of us who live in the Clive West Des Moines area don't need. Personally I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Some businesses may benefit from the people it brings to the West side. Valley West Mall doesn't have the quality of a food court that Merle Hay Mall does... Though foodie traffic would probably go a long way in bringing this mall back. While I now spend more time and money shopping at Jordan Creek and the Outlets in Altoona...I continue to shop at Valley West Mall when I can. I'm rooting for a comeback!
