Erika was awesome! I highly recommend this place, not only are their products amazing, but the MUAs are so much fun and do a great job. I scheduled an appointment at the end of July for my wedding on August 18th, and they got me in for a full face airbrush with Lash! I also got $50 worth of product-all totaling $75. Hands down the best place in Des Moines to get your makeup done as well as best products at an affordable price. I recently stopped in to Vanity and Glamour in search of makeup and application tips for a bodybuilding show that I am doing. Patrick welcomed me in with open arms. He helped me pick out the makeup that would work best for being on stage as well as applied it on my face so I could see what it would look like. At the end he recorded a quick video on my cell phone describing everything he did, including tips and tricks so I would be able to do it myself come showtime. I am unbelievably happy with my experience here and will tell everybody I know about this place. If you're in the East Village area you have to stop in here. read more

I got my make-up done by Patrick for a photoshoot and he is incredibly talented! No matter how many times I get my make-up done, I always feel uncomfortable with people being so close to my face and covering up my imperfections but this experience was different. Patrick's bubbly personality put me at ease and he made sure to take his time on every application. I love that he includes airbrushing because most places will charge you extra for airbrushing but not here. I asked for a clean and fresh look and he did just that. He made my skin look absolutely flawless and slightly dewy and something that most make-up artists mess up on are my eyes. They either pack on the eyeliner or eyeshadow and I end up looking like a raccoon-- not acceptable. Fortunately, Patrick really brightened up my eye area and made sure that every color and line complemented my eye shape. The whole process took about an hour and when I was finished, he let me pick a product that I wanted, FREE OF CHARGE! I picked up a finishing powder that suited my skin very well. Also, every product here is made with very gentle and organic ingredients which is very much appreciated for people like myself who have sensitive skin. During my photoshoot, my make-up did not smear at all! Even through all the sweat and wind, my make-up looked just as good as when I left the shop. They are known for high quality make up but I am in love with the glitter. You could use it on your body but they have tubes of clear fluid that the glitter stick to so you can use it around your eyes without worrying that it will get in them. Very friendly staff as well! read more

What a find! I wandered by this wonderful little shop on my way from Lime to Lucca, remembering that I was out of eye liner and mascara, I stopped in. I think I'll never buy my cosmetics from another place again. Not only was it affordable, but the formulations and shades were subtle, real, and sophisticated. They're made locally by a cosmetic chemist. The guy behind the counter, Patrick, listened to what I was looking for and quickly pulled out exactly what I wanted. I left with some amazing mascara that lifts AND separates, some kind of magical eye liner that goes on smooth and soft but after five minutes can't be rubbed off, and finally after years of looking, the exact shade of gloss that looks like my lip color but better for everyday wear. All of that cost me less than $50! I live in Chicago, but from now on I'm going to try and order my cosmetics from here every chance I get. read more

I have recommended this store to several of my friends and they have not been disappointed. My daughters also love his products, they all live out of town, but a visit home is never complete without going to this shop. Patrick is Amazing!!! Not only is he a talented artist (whatever the canvas) but you will be dumbfounded by his knowledge. He really looks at the individual and is careful not to categorize his clients. Vanity and Glamour is such a fun place to go and you will leave feeling beautiful inside and out! I miss Patrick. Vanity and Glamour's good reputation is due to Patrick's tremendous customer service and passion for people. I found this lacking with the new ownership. Prices went up significantly and I feel you now must accommodate the artists schedules rather than the other way around. The artists made my bridesmaids look beautiful, but up-charged us an extra $10 per guest to open an hour early for a Friday wedding, which was only 9:30am. I paid a 50% deposit months in advance to reserve our appointments and then the owners "forgot" the day of and tried to charge me and three of my bridesmaids for the full price. I had to remind the owner of this. The owner Sharla, also took a lengthy phone call during our appt. (nearly 20 minutes) which to me showed lack of consideration to our time and schedule. Especially since I was charged an extra $10 per appt. for early start. The applications were decent, but not to the level of excellence you would have received under Patrick. read more
