My friend booked hair appointments at Salon Concrete for her wedding day. Since the salon was spacious and was well staffed, they were able to handle our whole party and keep the salon open for regular business. I'm not sure if this was provided by the salon or the bride, but there was a table in the center of the salon which had bagels, muffins, juice, mimosas and water for us to enjoy while waiting. Since we couldn't all have appointments at once, it was nice to be able to have a little nosh. I believe there were two or three stylists working with our group. Cassie did my hair and did a great job. I knew I wanted some sort of flowy curls with half of my hair out of my face, but I left the rest up to Cassie's expertise. Cassie and a few other stylists strategized and then she got to work. It took a while to curl my hair but my hair is very thick and wavy so that's expected. She meticulously went through each section. I was very happy with the end result. I only wish a few more pins and spray had been used. I had to run back to the salon to pick up a friend a little after my appointment and another stylist was able to touch me up which helped the style last through most of the night. On August 5, I got my hair cut my Kristen and colored by Nina (who are both wonderful people). I was at first really happy with the results: A few days later, after leaving my hair straight and unstyled, I noticed that the face framing of my long bob was very much one sided. The left side of my hair was actually longer in the front than it was in the back, while the right side was significantly shorter in the front than in the back as it's supposed to be with face-framing. Backstory: I have been in Boston for a summer internship but came home to NJ for one weekend and decided to get my hair done here since my mom raves about Salon Concrete all the time. I noticed the unevenness when I got back to Boston and figured they wouldn't mind fixing it up a little for me when I got back...WRONG! I just called Salon Concrete, granted it's been a while since I figured it didn't matter when I call them because I won't be back until the end of August, to let them know about my hair and that I'd like to come back to get it fixed. The receptionist that I spoke to this time around was incredibly unpleasant and unfortunately I didn't get her name. I was informed that when I returned home from Boston they would not fix my hair but I could pay for another haircut since the grace period has ended. I understand that when I return from Boston a few weeks will have passed since my haircut, but the mistake will still be there! It would really only take them 5 minutes to fix it! I'm VERY disappointed with their customer service after my appointment. I will not be returning to pay another $70 for a quick fix that should not cost me anything because it should not have happened in the first place, I of course understand that people make mistakes and that is okay with me. I do not understand why Salon Concrete thinks it's okay to let there mistakes go unfixed. Aside from the fact that Salon Concrete will not fix their mistake, Kristen and Nina were both great. Nina did an awesome job with my color and aside from the one mistake, I'm loving my cut from Kristen. Went to the bell works location today and my experience was amazing. My appointment was with Emily and she is the best, wonderful personality perfect haircut = amazing experience! She is kind and very talented and will listen to exactly what you want. & the girl who shampooed my hair, I wish I asked her name because that was the best shampoo I ever had, which also adds to a very relaxing experience. Danielle: This is my 2nd time with Danielle - she cut my hair right before the holidays and I am very particular and so is my hair. One wrong snip and my entire hair structure is off and I can feel it the day after a cut. Danielle is naturally talented and under the incredible teaching at this Salon she's a master at understanding hair cut and structure. She understood my goals and exactly what I did not want and avoided doing anything I wouldn't like. She's open, receptive, kind and focused. Today, she did my blowout for a media shoot - she nailed it! She understood how to create volume in the places where I needed it and also knew where I needed hot tools to crisp my look. It has taken me over a year to write this review. Every time I received an email asking to "review us on Yelp!" Or "review us on Google+!," I would be tempted. But, I am not the type of person that writes bad reviews. I give credit where credit is due, and if a service isn't "stellar" or doesn't meet my expectations, I see no reason to negatively impact a company's reputation. My situation with Salon Concrete is different. A client for almost 10 years, I considered my experiences there mediocre (with the exception of Mallory, who is a wonderful hair cutter), and overpriced. I continued going because, like many girls, when you find a salon you can trust to a certain degree, you stick with it. It has been over a year since I have been to Salon Concrete, and my last experience there still has me traumatized. You would think if you were spending such an exorbitant amount of money, you could at least take solace in the fact that you were "in good hands." It took me years to grow out my hair. My colorist, who I will not name, knew my concerns about keeping my hair healthy. Yes, I was a double process blonde. However, I took extremely good care of my hair, and always checked with my colorist to ensure whatever treatment I was about to undergo wouldn't cause too much damage. Wanting to go a more ashy color, my colorist informed me of a new shade they had just gotten in. I asked numerous times if my hair could handle the "bleach bath" she planned to perform prior to applying the color. She ensured me that my hair felt like it was in good condition, and the treatment wouldn't be a problem. I won't bore you with the remaining details. In short, as the color was being washed out, so was half of my head of hair. The amount of hair loss I experienced was so extreme that when I got up from the sink, she covered it with a cape so I wouldn't see. Not only was I charged for this appointment, but I was OVER charged. Traumatized, it took me a few days to realize. For months I was losing clumps of hair every time I showered. My colorist said it would stop in a few days or a week. It didn't. Not only did I have to cut the hair I had worked so hard to grow out into a short bob (at a different salon, of course), and grow out my natural color, but I am still dealing with straw-like hair that I can not apply any heat to at all whatsoever. I took every precaution with maintaining my hair, and didn't mind paying the ridiculous prices because it gave me peace of mind that I was in good hands. But, I wasn't. Yes, it is "just hair," but as many girls can understand, hair plays a big part in self confidence. Yes, I do blame Salon Concrete for my hair disaster. I was never a customer that demanded any service, I always asked questions to ensure anything I had done would be safe. My once healthy hair is now a frizzy short mess, and I am still dealing with the repercussions of that ONE appointment. Why did I finally decide to write this review? Because if I can help someone else from suffering the trauma and stress I have had since that appointment, it is worth it. I have curly hair and would always have to travel to NYC to get a decent hair cut. I was getting tired of spending all that money just to travel to the city and looked every where for a local salon that could cut my hair properly. Love Rachel for hair color. She is great with color, and her techniques and the styles she recommends are modern and up-to-date. She seems to frequently attend conferences and take classes to stay current. The first time she did my color, I found her technique (teasing instead of foils) really uncomfortable, so when I told her about it the next time, she was glad I told her and immediately changed to foils to accommodate me. Sorry to say, I've only been able to get a haircut I liked here one time, and that was because Christine (the owner? creative director?) intervened to supervise and revise a "young talent" cut. But Christine's cost for a haircut is $170 (per Salon Concrete's website), which isn't in my budget. I have tried two other stylists and just never could get a cut I was happy with. I have been a client here at Salon Concrete for over 10 years. I started off by going to the Salon for my hair cuts by either, Mallory and or Christine and hair color by Rachel from time to time. I figured that color was no big deal, I found out it is! I thought I would save a couple of bucks and go to the cheapo "walk in" places. I was in school and was dead broke but you get what you pay for. However, It really isn't that much of a difference when its all said and done (adding blow drying, products (which is included here but additional I found at other salons). I have found that Christine is a perfectionist in everything that she does. She ensures that her staff is highly skilled and trained in their craft of area of expertise. She spares no expense on the investment on the ongoing vigorous training of all of the staff. She is one of the best business owners, creative stylist, and humanitarian I think I have met. Getting your hair done here is an creative experience and I have no disappointments in the quality of the work, it is TOP notch, and consistent. I try new colorist and I am always happy with their work. I love my experience here, I can not say enough good things about them. I consult with them when I want a change leaving the creativity to them. I have very thin hair so, I have to be very careful as there is no room for error, my cuts/color have to be precise as every strand counts! I am not a hairdressers dream trust me! :( I read the reviews and saw from the one women (Eve W), I feel bad for her but perhaps it might have been caused by medication or a health related issue that was going on at the time. Wonderful haircut, I have been going there for over a year; however they have lost me due to a screwed up appointment system. Over a week ago I made an appointment to fit in a very busy week preceding a trip. A few days later I received a voicemail saying they could not keep that time because of a computer problem. The styling started with conversation with Liz about what I was looking for. Then I went to the sinks for a wash and an amazing scalp massage. I had never been satisfied with a hair cut before I started going to Salon Concrete. I have been going to Malanka since she was "New Talent" and now she has been a full blown stylists for years. I have honestly never been more impressed with a stylists knowledge on hair textures and patterns. I love changing my hair styles (cuts, never color) often and I walk in and tell Malanka to do as she pleases and my hair always look amazing. They don't skimp on the head massage when your hair gets washed. Everyone there is super nice and really treats you like a friend. I've been going to Salon Concrete off and on for about three years. I usually try out other places just to switch things up. I think I'm done with that now, especially as I don't feel funny about having different stylists cut my hair at Concrete--no one seems to get offended if I'm not "loyal" to one stylist. Salon Concrete's staff seems to have a uniformly better understanding of hair and how to cut it than other places I've been. That may sound peculiar, but I have a lot of fine hair with a lot of wave in it. It can be curly or straight depending on humidity and stylists at other salons don't understand which techniques are going to work and which are going to be disastrous. One person at Concrete gave me a cut I didn't love a couple of years ago. I called a couple of days later to say that I was really having trouble with it--and they asked me to come back so they could recut it in a way I'd be happy with. They did, and I was. Oh, and the free bangs trims between cuts are awesome! Can't vouch for the colorists but the cuts are amazing. read more

Leanne and Holly are the only people I will ever trust to cut my hair... whether I have a picture or just talking about ideas... it's always comes out super sexy (how I want it) and they never take off my length which every other place I've ever been to seems to be obsessed with. I have been getting my hair colored at Salon Concrete for 3+ years now. Stephanie is a real pro and always make sure my color is vibrant and shiny. She is incredibly detail oriented. I'm a little neurotic and my hair grows fast so she's kind enough to do a hair-line touch up in between full head color appointments. When the salon was changing color lines, Stephanie made sure we had just the right formula for me. Rebecca colors my hair as well and is equally terrific. She gives the best blow out and I look like a celebrity when I leave. People everywhere stop me to compliment my color. The Davines products are second to none. I admit to partial bias since a friend cut my hair for me, but this place is great. The junior stylists, while still gaining experience, are very talented and not to be dismissed. A very affordable cut, though the more experienced stylist prices go up rather quickly. Not sure if I'd come here if it weren't for my friend (this is a personal preference; I choose not to spend a lot of money on my hair as a rule), but I know I'd be in good hands regardless of who I sat down with. The vibe is very trendy and comfortable, and if you go on a Tuesday (training day), you can get a cheap cut without skimping on quality. I have had several hair cuts from Leeann. She is great. I have very fine thin hair but her cuts make me look soooo much better, fuller and sexier! Leeann listens to you and gives you wonderful suggestions of what can be done. She is focused and very professional. No drama queens at Salon Concrete. All the workers here are very into what they do and that it so important. Nice place to go to and to not woory when you get home that you will need to fix it, re-trim ,etc.. The only time I have had a good hair cut is after I complained. I go to the same person and ask for the same cut and it is always different and not what I had asked for. I have gotten great cuts at Salon Concrete a number of times. The reason I returned there is because it is one of the few places I have ever found where the stylist actually looks at and feels my hair before the shampoo. I have very thick, wavy hair, and in most places the stylist sees me AFTER the shampoo when, of course, the hair is wet and straight. They have no idea what the shape of the hair is when dry. Salon Concrete gets points for this level of professionalism. I've mostly gotten my hair cut by Lee Ann, who does a great job. The reason I won't give five stars is price. I've paid the high price they charge because they do give quality service. However, my daughter, who has been living overseas for more than a year, constantly gets offers of deals via email to get haircuts, and of course she can't use them. Meanwhile, I've spent more money there than she ever has, and I get no offers at all. I'm trimming my own hair until I can afford to work Salon Concrete into my budget again. read more
