If i could leave 0 stars I would....I had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience at Salon Del Sol and would strongly caution others before booking a hair extension service here. Shortly after my appointment, I noticed multiple serious issues with the installation. There were beads left loose in my hair that were not attached to anything, along with long pieces of string that were never properly secured or trimmed--I had to cut some of these out myself. On top of that, the middle row, which included three wefts, has been completely ruined. Because of this, I will now be forced to purchase entirely new hair if I ever decide to get extensions again. Even more concerning is the damage to my natural hair. I am currently three months postpartum and understand that some hair shedding is normal, but I am experiencing chunks of hair coming out, which I strongly believe is a direct result of improper installation--not postpartum changes. Blaming this entirely on postpartum hair loss is dismissive and ignores the clear errors in the work that was done. When I raised these concerns, they were brushed off. The owner even reached out to me, but offered no real resolution or compensation. After I responded, I never heard back again. The lack of accountability and follow-through is just as unacceptable as the poor quality of the service itself. I had this service done to feel more confident, and instead I am left dealing with damaged hair, ruined extensions, and a significant financial loss from purchasing the hair while i knew going into this it was a training appointment a master stylist should have checked over the work done making sure there was nothing to cause damage. This experience fell far below professional standards, both in workmanship and customer service. I would not recommend this salon to anyone seeking hair extensions. read more

I was looking for a very skilled stylist. Anywhere I found a stylist that could cut my hair the way I wanted it, she was gone in two sessions. So, I thought going to a predominantly female salon would provide the best stylists, maximum skill and experience, and enough pay to keep them from migrating every few weeks. For the most part this was marginally true. I chose my salon del sol stylist by her four years experience, which seems to be a very high number in Richmond! She cut my hair well, but never achieved the look I was aiming for. At $90 a cut, I don't think that's too much to ask. I never felt welcome there as a man, but I suppose that's the way it goes here. The ender was when she made racist comments. I'm not sure she wasn't trying to encourage me to stop coming. Who knows. I don't really care, as long as the cut is good, but it wasn't. I was very pleasantly surprised. They were able to fit me in quickly and the stylist Gabby was great to work with and understood the quirks of my hair (cowlicks and all). I am returning for my next cut! Parking is at the mall so that's no issue. They use Aveda products so those are great for your hair. Salon is clean, staff are friendly. I've been going to the same stylist for a while, but really felt like I needed a change. Every time I went for a haircut I would spend in excess of $80 and I wondered if a more junior stylist could do the same simple haircut. A friend has been going to SDS for years and highly recommends it. I like the idea of natural products, so what the heck...I'll give them a try. The beauty of going to SDS is that you can make appointments online. I love that because it means when I'm busy at work and can't call, I can go home and make an appointment in the evening while I'm relaxing. I made my appointment with Ashley. I have a simple bob haircut...I think it's pretty easy, so I was willing to try someone who doesn't have years of experience. To be honest, I received a great haircut...can't tell the difference between this cut and the more expensive one, except that I feel like I'm helping a younger stylist get established. Ashley was super! My cut was great and she took the time to give me a smooth blowout, which is awesome because I have wavy hair. I've made a follow-up appointment for a cut in August and am looking forward to it. I'm sending my two daughters to Ashley, too. read more

I made an appointment for myself while my daughter was having her hair cut there a few weeks ago. They called and confirmed twice, sent numerous reminder texts, and the day of the appt they called to Asia was running behind by 30 minutes, which I said was fine (even though I was about to walk out the door). They then called 15 minutes later to say she was still running behind (an hour at this point), and could I come in at 5:00 instead of 4:00? I said no, they made no effort to put me with someone else, made no apologies, left left me in the lurch. Will not be back and I do not recommend this salon due to poor customer service and being unreliable. read more

Hands down the best salon I have been to here in RVA!! I emailed them to book an appointment and they called me right away for the same day to come in! Once I arrived I was greeted by my name, signed in, and was offered a beverage while I wait. Within a minute I was greeted by my new stylist, Gena! Used to be a regular at a different salon but decided to switch it up -so glad i did. They were able to schedule me in last minute and were super accommodating over the phone. I chose to do a repair hair treatment, which genuinely made a huge difference in my super damaged hair. It feels and looks great, will be coming back. We love this salon! We were able to grab a last-minute apt on a Sunday (a huge plus, since most are closed on Sundays!). Whitney was THE best! Rachel is a goddamn miracle worker. Since moving to Richmond I haven't found a hairdresser that can properly deal with my waves. To be fair they are insanely thick - when I got there and Rachel started to brush it out, she laughed and told me my bangs were more than she had on her whole head. But she managed to create a beautiful a line bob with minimal stack in the back. It frames my face so well, even strangers comment on how they like my hair. Additionally, as a happy accident, she corrected a balyage that was improperly applied with thinning shears. What used to appear as long dark roots now resembles the ombré I always wanted. Went here for the first time. As a former rape victim, consent with anything is extremely important. I understand that my ends were dead, however, I was trying to hold on to some part that was me before the tragedy as it gave me comfort. She may have just misunderstood what I meant, and I wished she would have checked for understanding... I know it's just hair to some people, but to have more taken from you than what was being asked for was just another example of something being taken without consent... and then paying for that to be taken from me. This review is for Ashley - not for the salon in general. I used to see Ashley when she worked over at the Village and have spent the passed year seeing other people at the Village after Ashley left me for Short Pump. Blah...I do not want to drive to Short Pump! But, after not finding anyone who was right for me I wanted my girl so I made the drive. I showed her several different styles in magazines, etc. She has great commentary/advice on a number of the styles - "those bangs are cute but really high maintenance and I know you don't like to use product." Damn right. Then she tells me that really I have the exact haircut that I keep pointing out to her - I just don't style my hair so it doesn't look like much. She put me in the chair, did a little texturing in the back then showed me some products and styling tips that would give me the look I wanted without too much time spent. I look like a million bucks. Now, it seems to me that Ashley is a real gem. That any other stylist would have just slapped me in the chair, given me a trim, charged me $45 and sent me home. Not her, she takes the time to explain things to me in a way that a seriously hair styling challenged girl can understand, appreciate and apply. She tells the girls at the register no charge because we didn't wash, cut or anything - just some styling tips. I hand her all the money in my pockets. don't go here. i have been a few times and have never had problems (i am 24 y/o) but my little sister went a few months ago and they charged her over 600$ for partial balayage and a trim. she is 17 (looks 15) and my mom was not with her so she felt compelled to pay. i wish my mom went the next day to depend a refund, bc if i knew what had happened when it happened, i would've raised hell. this place is a scam and makes a 17 y/o girl pay over 600$ for something so minimal. sad thing is that i know whoever her stylist was probably does it to other girls too. read more

Cashier couldn't figure out how to scan my card, so he asked me to type the card number and expiration date in. I did all of that and put in my pin# after which the machine said "APPROVED". I gathered my things to leave and the cashier said that he couldn't figure it out. I was like "not my problem" because I had many things to do which ruffled his feathers so he rudely suggested that I have a seat and wait because it will likely take a long time to figure everything out. I suggested that he learn how to use his machine and left. The cashier followed me out yelling "Thief!" "You are STEALING!" "I'm taking your picture!" "I'm calling the police" and all manner of other nonsense to the shock of all passers-by! My bank confirmed that the transaction went through and advised that the cashier's actions were highly illegal, so now I am working with an attorney to file harassment charges . . . After many bad hair cuts, I decided to conduct a "good" research to find "the" hairstylist. I came across salon del sol and it had good reviews so I decided to give it a try. To be on the safe side I decided to book an appointment with a senior stylist who has over ten years of experience. She was nice and gave me the impression that she knew what she was doing but the end result was horrible. She had no talent, creativity and I walked out of there with worst hair than I came in with. Her work is no more than amature and even though she was nice she seem not to have a passion for what she does, I wish I would have listen to my instinct and walked away after seeing her. I called the same day to make an appointment, the receptionist who assisted me was Lindsey and she was very kind. She offered me multiple stylists at different levels, I decided to go with Keith, I was told that he does fabulous short hair cuts. I arrived at my appointment 15 minutes prior and was seen within 5 minutes. The staff was friendly and offered me a beverage but I declined. Keith came up, greeted me and we walked to his chair. He consulted with me to make sure he understood what I wanted. He gave me a short but relaxing shoulder, neck and head massage before heading to the shampoo bowl. The salon was very clean and the ambiance was pleasant. The entire time during my service I did not feel pressured to purchase any products but he did educate me on what the product does. I love my haircut and will be returning to this location again. read more

I had previously been seeing a stylist at Salon del Sol's Parham location and was not happy when she cut a big chunk out of one side of my hair. I am not nitpicky about my hair generally, but it was pretty bad. I let it grow out and decided to give the Short Pump location a shot even though it was not on my usual route. I am so happy I did!!! I saw Keith and he was simply amazing. He's a part-time theatre teacher and a super down-to-earth, sweet guy. Best customer service experience ever. He patiently listened as I told him about the previous cut and he told me how he could help. He absolutely delivered and my hair looks so much better. Not only that, but he offered a scalp/neck massage, a hand massage, AND a facial. He took a lot of time to explain all the products he used without being pushy whatsoever. The best part: I loved the Aveda skin care products, so I called the salon a few days later to get a list of the products Keith had used on me so I could buy. Keith was off work that day, but the receptionist called him immediately to get the list. They called me back 30 minutes later to share the list, and then set aside everything for me at the front desk so I could check out immediately that same night. Katie W was finishing up with a client and we chat briefly, and we decided to do a blowout. She was able to take my inverted bob and give me both volume and style. She is the bomb! She suggested adding curl to my Bob, and it made me even more stylish and glamorous. She is an awesome stylist, and extremely confident with her work. I have a really straight and fine hair. It's a really difficult hair to work with. I went to three different places to have a long bob done and they just destroyed my hair. Now I have short hair, I decided to try one more time to find a place were I can have a SHORT BOB and I gave this place a chance. Guess what! The girl that did my haircut did a excellent work. Finally i have a bob haircut done just the way it is supposed to. I love it! Now I just need to let it grow and I will have my long bob just the way I wanted it at the beginning. It took me a few hours to write this review....I was out celebrating my hair !! Seriously, today was an amazing day. I can not speak more highly of this Salon. I started going to Salon Del Sol about 10 years ago. 6 years ago, I moved and since then have had the opportunity to come back and experience the same fabulous styling, hair color, highlight and blow-out that I have always had the opportunity to experience. I previously worked with Rhonda, and when I found out she left and Eddie was booked solid, I had the privilege to meet Bria. She is absolutely a miracle worker. Loved her personality, her approach, and hands down - her ability to create exactly what I asked for in a root touch-up and highlight. The service at this salon is always top-notch, friendly, and courteous. Given my "Las Vegas" personality in a conservative Southern town - they are extremely gracious and customer service oriented. I travel a ton, and am lucky to have an expert stylist in Vegas. Now, I am definitely adding Bria to my list of "stylist perfectionists" for the occasional time I visit Short Pump . My service provider was Katy. While she did a decent job at my haircut the first day, I did have a follow up the next day with her for a partial balayage. My experience was extremely disappointing and received an unprofessional behavior. Since it was my first time coloring my hair, I told her about my nascent understanding about my options and knowledge on hair colors. I had heard at another salon of an option of a color type, where you don't use lightner and just color the hair with a unique type of color, it even shows on black hair - so I wanted to check if that's something we have in this salon and Katy mentioned we can try and she was almost certain that it can show the result but the shade may not be an exact match (a tone here and there) - a risk I was willing to take based on her confidence. However, my color was not even close to the same shade card, I had selected a tone of red (and we chose a red she was certain can show on my hair and not the bright ones which had lower chances). I expressed my disappointment and the moment we checked in the sunlight it looked brown, so she mentioned we will have to REDO this as AVEDA's color won't work on my black hair without lightner. I even got an appointment with another girl as Katy was unavailable, but her attitude became completely rude in the process because I was unsatisfied with the outcome. Then when I was checking out, she comes storming out, not even looking at me, telling the receptionist it's not a REDO per the form I signed and stormed out - Exceptionally rude and unprofessional! Then the manager called me and said it won't be a redo and I'll have to pay for the service again!! I want to tell the salon, first I thought the form mentioned the results won't be the shade I want, but a subtle difference from the color I choose - that's what I was told!! then they played on words that it was subtle change on my hair color and not the shade i chose - why even recommend a lighter shade to begin with then. They could have strongly suggested against that option in the first place or a darker shade! I was charged for a partial balayage where we didn't use the lightner, so it took a lot lesser time for the process, I was still charged the full amount - PLUS I WAS SUPPOSE TO GET MY HAIR SET AS WAVY/CURLY (recommended by Katy) BUT SINCE I WAS GETTING A REDO, I THOUGHT NOT TO WASTE KATY'S EFFORTS AND GET IT AFTER THE REDO. THIS WASN'T OFFERED BY UNPROFESSIONAL KATY WHEN THEY DECIDED NOT TO GIVE ME THE REDO!!! I DESERVE A REFUND FOR THIS LACK OF SERVICE, AT LEAST FOR THE PART I DIDN'T RECEIVE FROM THIS HORRIBLE SALON. Super disappointed from my experience, will never recommend this to anyone!! read more
