I've geen going to Stephen Ghio for several years for my haircuts, he's the best Barber in the county. When I needed my last haircut, I found out that he'd left his previous shop (The Shavery) and ended up getting a haircut there from another barber, it was OK but nowhere near what I was used to. I've been getting my hair done by the talented Yuri for the past two years now and I realized I was way over due to write this review. I typically go to Yuri for a full color and cut. She always does an amazing job and takes her time making sure I'm happy with the color. Sometimes I leave it to her expertise to decide the best color and my hair always end up looking better than I could have picked. She even helped me in dyeing my hair extensions for my wedding and matching them to my hair color. I would recommend her to anyone whose looking for a new stylist who has excellent customer service and is a perfectionist with your hair. PS. A super experience in every way! Elle has been absolutely wonderful helping me with a highlighting plan that works for my lifestyle and budget. I have a very thick head of hair that normally takes at least 3+ hours to cut and color but she is so practiced and efficient that I've been in and our of the chair in record time. I tried this place for a trim. The salon setup is barebones. The stylist complained right away that the lighting is terrible by the owner's design -- I noticed it was very dark and maybe that's why my haircut was a bad one. 3 inches came off despite being precise to cut no more Than a half an inch. "I'm gonna tell you as your friend and because I love you: you need to dye your hair. Really, you need to cut it too, but I know you're not ready for that. But girl, if you want to get that job, you need to dye your hair." This, from a very successful friend and mentor who spent 15 years helping people get their dream job. I trust her implicitly - but she was also making a pretty big ask. You see, for most of my life I have had outrageously long hair: I'm about 5 ft. tall, and my hair was about 4 and a half ft long. It was straight and thick and lustrous and beautiful; but, apparently it wasn't the right hair for a gainfully employed modern me. Naturally, I panicked. I can't remember the last time I'd ever been in a hair salon, and the last time I dyed my hair, I was 15, did it in my friend's bathroom, and aimed to make it as hideous as possible. Luckily, my very metrosexual husband (who gets his hair cut/colored on the reg) sent me to Kiki. First, Kiki basically gave me a 15 min. therapy session over the phone, so she could understand why I'd had this long-ass hair for so very long, and why and how it could be colored, and in what timeframe. Before long, she had me convinced that perhaps I should consider cutting it too...she gave me an assignment over the next few days to scour the internet for hair styles and looks in general that "spoke to me." This, I did. When I arrived at the Salon, Kiki spent an entire hour inspecting my hair, surfing the net for more looks, trying to understand what I liked about what styles, and what I needed in a new style. So, about 90 minutes later, when she finally put the scissors to my hair, I was confident and ready. Four feet of hair went into a ponytail, and -CHOP!- gone. My whole head felt free. Kiki spent the remainder of that afternoon coloring, adding highlights, lowlights (I didn't even know the difference), shaping, styling and finishing my new, multi-layered, incredibly flattering, subtlely nuanced-colored new lob. She taught me how to blowdry/style it "naturally," and then showed me how to do a completely different, beachy wave look using a curling iron (which I hadn't used since I was 12). I had no frame of reference for how much it was supposed to cost, but for an entire afternoon of hair transformation, Kiki was an incredible bargain, and the swagger and boost I felt was priceless! I am so thrilled with the tremendous compliments I receive (my mom was like, thank god, someone finally talked sense into you - that hair had to go!), and with how well my hair waves, bounces, and behaves. It grows out great and when I go back every few months seeing Kiki is always a delight. Oh yeah - I got me a job too! read more

I've been going to Elle for many years and I was so surprised to see the poor review below from Lynne C! I've been to many salons in Marin, SF, LA etc and have never enjoyed a more welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The salon is clean and chic with rotating art, jewelry, Elle's signature candles, and even chair massage. Most importantly, Elle is a superstar with cut and color-I always walk out feeling beautiful- and her assistant Yuri is such a dear person and she does the best blowouts! Went to Salon Elle after reading all the great reviews. Ending up getting a hair cut with the owner, which made me think I would be getting an amazing cut. She was very direct and honest with me when discussing my hair, and encouraged me to try something else than what I requested. I am trying to grow out my hair, but she explained to me that the style I wanted was not ideal for doing so. I appreciated her candor, but was not impressed with the cut. It hasn't grown out very well, and just looks blah. Not awful but definitely nothing special. Overall, slightly disappointed. read more

I've had my hair cut here twice and colored once. I was happy with the first cut, more of a trim and adding bangs. I was not impressed with the second, which was a shoulder length bob (2 inches shorter than I asked for and blunt, instead of razored layering like I asked for) with a too-dark tint job. I'm a brunette with dark hair and wanted to go back to a natural dark after a summer spent in chlorinated pools and sun but I was dyed nearly black. No thank you. read more

I have been going to Salon Elle since January of 2014. This is a classy salon with an Owner that understands her business and is good at it. Elle, the owner, colors & cuts my hair. She consults with me on everything regarding my hair. She is simply the best. Bought something here last week, about 50$. I can tell it was used because the product came out right away, when I have used this product before it would take several pumps before product comes out. Opened bottle and it was clear it had been used before. Could not return because I did not ask for receipt. It's disrespectful to customers to use a product like a sample and then place back on shelf for it to be bought. read more

My husband and I just moved to Tiburon in May, so I noticed the Salon Elle sign one day and stopped in to make an appt for a root touch-up and trim. It took 2 weeks to work me in, but that's OK. Elle greeted me an showed me to an area to change into a smock. Yuck! I was not certain I was given a clean smock since there were so few. This area/room was not set up for a comfortable change and appeared dark and dingy, So back to the chair I mentioned trim and Elle said she had not put me down for one. I had not given her the impression I wanted a trim, so she didn't have the time to do one. (Every 5 weeks like clockwork I get a touch-up and trim.) I brought my own formula which Elle used and we chatted as newbies while she applied the color. After the color set Elle turned me over a younger woman to wash my hair. We were never introduced and this young woman never said one word to me. Chilly atmosphere in the salon. Not friendly. Very poor wash. No strength in her hands. Wimpy. Next she motioned for me to go back to the chair. I assumed Elle would be stepping in for the blow-dry which is important to me. Not so. Elle was giving someone else a blow dry. I like my hair full, with volume and told the younger person this. She never once asked how I liked my hair styled. She squirted a few whiffs of something in my hair. This was the most feeble blow dry I've ever experienced. Wimpy like the shampoo.There was no strength or pull to her technique (?). My hair came out flat to my head, no volume whatsoever. This woman then just walked away without saying how do you like it, handing me a mirror to look at the sides and back, no friendly communication. At the desk I asked Elle about tipping that young woman and she stated oh that's my assistant we split the tip. I left 15%. Very poor experience for a $149.50 root touch. There's too many salons around that I feel certain will have a warm, communicative, friendlier atmosphere................and care. read more
