Milvali salon feels more like a assembly line chop shop vs high end salon experience. I've had two services here and both fell short. I had a haircut here, which I ended up waiting for the stylist for over an hour. When she finally saw me she said it was bc some scraggly haired woman with her extensions came in last minute demanding she fix her hair, and so she spent hours re bonding (or whatever the term is?) the hair. I'm not trying to be mean here, but the woman had very fine blonde hair that was bob length and got hair down to her waist. My aside here is ...ladies...can we just love what we have and maybe do any enhancements in moderation instead of totally going overboard with the extensions down to our tushies?! And, yes, I was rightfully upset bc I had an appt and this woman did not, yet I had to wait for my scheduled service?? Totally doesn't make sense. The kicker was when I told the stylist she should have rescheduled me if she was going to be so late, and her response was that she didn't want to lose another customer that day. Welp, she definitely lost me as a customer, because I'd never go back to her. The cut was okay but overall a mind boggling experience and a waste of my time. The other experience I had was getting a facial from an aesthetician. I specifically let her know I didn't want any animal tested or animal products on my skin. And yet, she slapped collagen on my face (and it wasn't marine collagen). She also didn't do any arm or neck massage, which is odd because with all the facials I've had at other places, I've always had a light massage while a mask is on my face. When I asked about the massage, the aesthetician said she leaves the room while my mask is on vs doing a massage. Additionally, she kept using the term "anti-aging", despite me sharing that I'm not against what natural process happens to us all, and I don't like language that makes us hate a natural process. I think (especially in a spa or salon setting) there are far more positive terms we can use to describe caring for our skin. Rejuvenating, refreshing, aging with grace, naturally enhancing...sounds far more from a place of love and acceptance for ourselves than "anti-aging". From both of these less than par experiences, my take away was that I was in a low caliber salon, and not a specialized, leveled up establishment. It's been a year and I haven't returned, nor would I recommend this place to others. read more

I booked a haircut for my upcoming wedding and arrived for my 10:30 appointment only to find out it had been canceled because I hadn't paid the required deposit within 24 hours of booking. Unfortunately, the automated text with the payment link went to my spam folder, so I never saw it. While I understand having a deposit policy, I was disappointed that no one called or emailed me before canceling the appointment especially being a first time client. I only found out after I arrived at the salon. To their credit, they did offer me a 12:00 p.m. appointment, but I wasn't able to wait an additional hour and a half. I think a quick phone call or reminder before canceling would have prevented this situation entirely. Better communication with first-time clients would make for a much better experience. read more

Fantastic salon! I've been going to Jess for waxing for a dozen years and to Caitlin for haircuts for about two years. Both do amazing work. Front desk staff is highly professional and friendly and the salon is always immaculate. I am almost always able to get the time slot I need for back-to-back appointments with them, and the best part is they never, ever run late. I don't live in Mill Valley and I'm very busy with work, and I cannot stand it when I drive for half an hour to get to an appointment and the stylist is running half an hour late. This never happens at Milvali. They have a wide variety of high-quality products for sale but they don't push product. They always offer coffee or water, and they have little treats in the rooms. It's a friendly, community- and customer-oriented professional salon with a positive energy and friendly staff. Which is why they're very busy. read more

I've been going to Milvali for over 20 years and am not allowed back into the salon unless I pre-pay for services which creates a hardship for me. In any case, Katelyn gives GREAT haircuts and Elaine is a master hair colorist. You can't go wrong with either of them. I was accused of making appointments and not keeping them. I'm pretty sure I gave sufficient notice but my dad was dying and I am terribly sorry for all that and wish I could have reversed it. read more

Milvali staff and stylists are professional and exceptional at all they do. You don't often find a salon where the owner is also providing services and staff have been there for decades. This isn't just a business; it's the 'Cheers' of Mill Valley! I moved away 5 years ago and still drive 2 hours round trip for facials, waxing, brows and cut/color upkeep. I've never known anyone to have a bad experience but I'm sure if there was a misstep, it would be corrected immediately. You don't earn a decades long reputation otherwise. 10/10! read more

Worst experience I have ever had- both in the haircut itself, which was basically a chop job- and in the service. I was treated so badly from the second I met my stylist. Her name is Krista, and she is just a mean girl, not sure how else to say it. She had a terrible attitude, rushed every aspect of my experience, cut my hair unevenly and didnt bother to blend the layers. It looks terrible. I went back to get it fixed by Candy, who was lovely, but I would not recommend this place in a county filled with amazing stylists. read more

I hate to leave a negative review because the actual service provider was great, but the reception and management experience at MILVALI Salon has been consistently frustrating. About six weeks ago, Hillary did my brows and did an excellent job. Afterward, I asked the front desk what availability looked like for a blowout the following day. The times they offered didn't work for me, and I clearly said so. Despite this, I was still booked and later marked as a no-show. I gave grace since it seemed like a mix-up on their end. Unfortunately, a similar issue happened again. I had a work emergency today and called the salon to let them know I wouldn't be able to make it in. Despite that, reception once again scheduled me for a service I did not consent to. I had requested a brow and lash tint, but was instead booked for a brow lamination. What was most frustrating was how I was charged. Instead of being charged half of the service I actually requested (brow and lash tint, which is $61 - so $30.50 for half), I was charged $65, which is half of the $120 brow lamination, brow, and lash tint package ... a service I did not ask for and would not have booked, especially since I had been told to wait 8-10 weeks between laminations. When I tried to address this, the manager was aggressive and dismissive. The interaction felt more like an upsell than an attempt to resolve a clear booking error. I'm happy to pay a reasonable late fee, but it should be fair, and there's no reason to be rude or snotty about it. I really want to love this salon because the technicians are talented, but the front desk processes and management communication need serious improvement. Being booked without consent and charged for incorrect services is disappointing and avoidable with better systems and better customer care. read more

Huge additional charges snuck in at the end without mentioning. Rudeness. Bad cut. Unethical biz practice. Multiple cancelations. I have used Milvali Salon for years. I love Trisha who usually does my hair. She wasn't available this week. So they scheduled me with someone else in the same price range. I was scheduled for a Friday cut and color. They called me late Thursday night and canceled. We rescheduled for Saturday, on Friday they canceled the Saturday appointment (I was very understandable and scheduled me for Sunday with Chandara and told me it would be $175. I was very early for my 11:15 appointment and killing time nearby with a friend, when the Salon called me and said I was late for my 11:00 appointment. I have 11:15 in my calendar. They had switched my appointment several times. This was a mistake on their end. I got there and was more than happy to drop the cut, which I didn't really need. Chandra and the staff assured me that I had plenty of time. Chandra suggested some front layers. I said I like my hair very long. I have always had very fine hair and recently finished chemo. So, I am just really happy to have long fine hair now. She suggested some layers in front. I said only if they are very subtle and long. Before she even started she was snapping pictures of my hair. She then got started. After she finished my hair, she took more pictures for her own use. I didn't want to say anything, but I was really upset by the very short layers that are totally in my face. But, I remained positive and thanked her. I then went to pay and was charged $200. I said to the woman at the desk, that is strange, you quoted me $175 yesterday during my second cancelation and she said, she chandra added an additional $25, because the treatment took longer than she thought!!!!! I've never ever heard of such a thing, but the much bigger issue is that the front desk tried to sneak that charge in. No one at any point said there would be an additional charge or gave me the option to skip the cut. I was baffled, but against my better judgement still gave her a good tip. I walked out and then really started to regret that I didn't advocate for myself and that I had tipped. It's just unethical to add in an additional charge, but the much bigger issue was that there was no mention of it. The front desk could tell I was surprised and upset and we're just basically like tough shit. I am a teacher and occasionally get my hair cut at a local barber for $40. They do it in about ten minutes and it looks a lot better than the cut she gave me. I just called the Salon back and said that I felt very wronged and the not-so-nice person at the front desk was like, "that's understandable that you are upset." No apology, no offer to compromise, no offer to connect me with a manager, etc. Good work MilVali Salon, you just lost a very loyal customer that comes in for regular colors. Also, I hate my hair and have a huge birthday and was having my hair done because I was going to see people from high school. I liked my hair much better before I walked into the salon. Could have saved the money, skipped the entire thing and felt better about the way it looks. What bothers me way more than the cut is the unethical business practices, you can't secretly sneak in extra charges and be unapologetic about it. Screw you MilVali Salon, Chandara, and the front desk staff. I planned to schedule eye brow and eye lash tints at checkout. I'll bring my business elsewhere, where I don't have to deal with multiple cancelations, bad cuts, unethical business practices. Making an appointment was super easy. I just called in and the front desk was friendly and patient in helping me find a slot that worked with my schedule. I don't think they have a private parking lot, but there was paid street parking nearby (I didn't have any issues finding a spot). My waxer was Hilary. She was welcoming and definitely a pro waxer. She was super efficient. I appreciate that they have body wipes for you if you need it beforehand, and I also like that they use muslin cloths for waxing. Very eco friendly. The salon itself was clean and well ventilated. The staff were all wearing masks (even though technically the mask mandates has been lifted). Prices aren't cheap but I think it's worth it for the quality and service. They also gave out a mini goody bag for first time customers. So cute! read more
