I can't say enough wonderful things about this salon! I live in Los Angeles but visit Newport, Oregon about 5x a year and ALWAYS get my hair done at Salon Ethos. I prefer this salon over any salons in Los Angeles! All the stylists at Salon Ethos are so amazingly talented and they make you feel like royalty. Everything from the hair wash to the blow dry is relaxing and even customized to what you want/like. I went in for a cut and color this afternoon and left feeling beautiful and so happy! I am visiting from NV and was able to get an appointment with Melissa on Friday. Where do I begin? She is a lively and colorful person who took the time to ask questions, listen and walk me through each step of my color, cut and styling appointment. It was the best haircut I have had in years and the color is perfect too. I especially appreciated the extra touches of a scalp massage, chemical treatment, discount on products etc. It was amazing! If you can get past the totally incompetent reception desk the hair cuts are great. The reception desk screwed up what I needed done the first time and the second time (yes, I gave them a second chance) got the date wrong. I showed the 2 girls my card with the correct date and the response was, "we have a spot open next month". No Thanks...never again. My suggestion would be to try to bypass the kids at desk and make appoint with the stylist personally. read more

As for the salon - love the look and feel - both very welcoming and efficient. As for the stylist who worked magic on my hair and my husband's...words are insufficient to describe what a truly amazing job she did! Anna is a great listener and truly gifted and at getting you the hair you want by working with the hair you have. She looks at what your hair does naturally and works with those patterns rather than against them. So instead of fighting with you hair, it falls just where you want it to. Our hair could not be more different. My husband's is gorgeously thick, coarse and super straight. Mine is full but fine with a ton of (previously hard to control) natural curl. We've just relocated to Newport and this has been an unexpected bonus. Not only is Anna extremely talented, she is also very sweet. I never write reviews but just can't say enough good things!! I am traveling but wanted a nice cut, nape shave and manicure for Valentines Day... this place did NOT disappoint! Very professional staff and salon. Got my hair done perfectly! No exaggeration. I really connected with Veronica and we are even born in the same town in Alaska! She took my direction very well and made me feel beautiful. She did my nails ON POINT! Im so excited to go show off my look tonight at dinner with my husband. I also bought some new hair care products AND they carry Bare Minerals which i use daily so i reupped my mascara! I have been getting my hair done by Liz for quite some time now. I don't go in as often as she would like, lol, but she still likes me :) She is a very high demand hair stylist. The other workers are just as talented though; cause unfortunately I had to cancel my appointment and reschedule, she is booked out for 6 weeks easily if not more, and went into see another and was not disappointed. The hair washing sinks are by far the most comfortable I have ever been in. So comfortable, it felt like my head was just on a regular reclining chair and I was scared the water was gonna go all down my back, it does not :) read more

My recent and first visit to Salon Ethos in Newport was for a shampoo, haircut and style appointment Feb-2018: I filled out the questionnaire form given me indicating that I would like a classic style cut; desiring a bit of a change from my current style, and that dryness & calicks were the main issues for my hair. The hair stylist was nice and I enjoyed the shampooing & treatment she applied to my hair. I explained to her before she started the haircut, that I was only wearing my hair in the current style due to a prior mishaps haircut elsewhere and that my hair was finally grown out enough to be able to go back to the style I enjoy. I informed her that I usually enjoy a few layers in my hair (the classic cut I had indicated on the questionnaire form). But apparently she only trimmed my hair according to the style & cut I already had and styled it as it were when I came in the door. I could not quite tell at the time if there were layers in it or not, due to styling. She told me before I left to call her if I had any questions or issues, so tipped her $10 on a $34 haircut, along with buying the product she used in my hair and pitched for, bringing it to the check-out cashier with her ($18). I figured okay, maybe she gets commission on it and I could help her out that way too... So I spent $62 at Salon Ethos that day when I only needed a simple haircut. I also scheduled an appointment for a hair coloring 6 weeks out. Let me explain what happened: I went home and washed and styled my hair as normal, but my hair was not going back or away from my face the way I had wanted at all and realized it was still needing some layers cut in. I returned to the shop the following day and asked the receptionist to speak with the stylist, who she said was busy. I kindly stated that I needed to see if I could get a few layers put in my hair, to which she looked and replied oh, well yes a few layers would look good and then scheduled an appointment for me. The morning of the appointment and on my 1/2hr drive in to Newport, I received a call from the salon receptionist saying that the stylist could not make it to work for the appointment and would call me to reschedule. After 6 days passed and no call from her, I called the salon and asked the receptionist about a return appointment, who told me she'd have the stylist call me, then she hung up without even taking my phone number. Four more days past and still no call. If the issue were payment for another hair cut, why not simply state so! I consider no call back as an intentional choice and not a mistake, and I consider it customer service which has no regard for the customer's satisfaction, nor for the return of the customer. Now I'm thinking they're good enough at the sales pitching parts, but then offer very poor quality customer care and follow-up, which will actually not help retain & serve many repeat customers... As a result of the poor customer service and follow-up care, I do not intend to return to the Salon Ethos for my coloring appointment or in the future, and furthermore, I would not recommend it to others. I do hope however that the time I took to write a review of the unprofessional services currently being offered at Salon Ethos could help to ensure better customer service and satisfaction for future customers. read more

I went to Scott at Salon Ethos today for a long overdue and much needed haircut. Yes, I had to wait almost a month to get an appointment, but that is a sign of a good stylist (in demand!). The salon is neat, clean and laid out nicely. The receptionist was friendly & helpful, so I don't know what the other complaints are about. Scott came and got me within 5 minutes of my arrival. He took the time to talk about what I wanted done, what would work for my type of hair and he went to work. His assistant, Annette, gave me an incredible shampoo & head massage. She offered me a glass of wine or water as well. I left with an amazing haircut and thrilled that I have now found someone to do my hair here on the coast! Oh, and the receptionist was very friendly & efficient when I checked out, even suggesting that I book my next appointment before I left. read more

I am so very happy with the haircuts I have received at Salon Ethos! As in most salons, each haircut begins with a thorough hair washing. At Salon Ethos, however, each washing is a special treat. In addition to the wash and conditioning, I receive a relaxing head massage and quiet rinse (no noisy water spraying next to my ears) in an incredibly comfortable chair. Instead of simply giving me one of a number of standardized cuts, Liz provides a customized cut every time. She listens carefully to what has worked and hasn't worked with my hair in the past and then assesses the texture, condition and growth patterns of my hair to get the cut I want. Products for all hair conditions are available, but there is no pressure to buy. The salon is a very professional operation with friendly, talented and skilled staff who are trained to provide exceptional service. We are so lucky to have such a fine salon in Newport. Needing a long overdue haircut and wanting to have a nice style for the holidays, I booked an appointment as a new client at Salon Ethos. Although I never received a phone confirmation, I showed up to my scheduled appointment on time. After checking in and waiting, I was told by the receptionist that there had been an error and that they couldn't get me in for another hour and 15 minutes. When I advised that the booking agent had told me that my time was available, the receptionist laughed it off and replied, "I don't know why she told you that. She's done that before." Done that before? And that's something to laugh at? Totally unprofessional. I had made arrangements for my children and moved around my busy schedule to make that appointment and they completely disregarded and disrespected my time. Needless to say, I did not book another appointment. If you can't handle basic customer service, you do not deserve my business. If I can't trust you with a schedule book, I'm not going to trust you with a pair of scissors. This was no way to treat any client, let alone a first-time customer. I will most definitely be going elsewhere. They have lost my business for life. read more
