Kelly Anderson accepted me as a customer 2 years ago. Since then she's walked me through quite a terrific color applications. All foils and all Aveda Products. She will finish with a hair cut. I can't say enough about Olivia at this salon! She gave my hair life again - which gave ME life again. I had my hair cut at Ulta at the Town Center (go look at my review there for photos of before!) where the lady just didn't know what she was doing and left me with an unfinished hair cut. I came to Olivia yesterday with a few photos of what I had wanted and she took control immediately. She washed my hair with purple shampoo, that I ended up going online and buying since they don't carry it there at the salon (Fanola No Yellow Shampoo) and it is about to be at my house now! I don't think I've ever had someone to wash my Hair with the purple shampoo at the salon before! Olivia took such care when it came to cutting my Hair into something that was unique to me, and something I would love. She provided further instructions on how to style it and how to brush it while blow drying, in the back, so that my curls in the back settle properly the next time I go to wash it. And even after she was done with blow drying and styling, she went back into it several more times to make sure it was absolutely perfect! I have found my new hair stylist! There is nothing more satisfying than getting a haircut you absolutely love AND finding a hair stylist you can continue going to for long term. In the end, I'm so thankful I went to Ulta and got my hair wrecked - because it brought me to someone who will do my hair perfectly from now on! It is so hard to find a reliable hairstylist-- but one visit to Salon On The Square and I will definitely be back! This quaint, cozy salon is located in the heart of San Marco in an adorable duplex office building. Unlike other salons, which I have found to be clinical and uninviting, SOTS was warm, decorated for Christmas (yay!) and homey. They have a keurig so you can make coffee, which I found was a nice touch on a cold day, and the staff was genuinely welcoming when I walked through the door. I didn't choose any specific stylist when I made my appointment (by the way, online scheduling is the best!) Kelly did an amazing job, was very educated, and personable to a T. The staff as a whole was friendly and they all seem to be close. At the end of my visit, I noticed that they had a "Best of Yelp 2017" sign at the reception desk, which just confirmed that this was a good decision, and I will definitely be back soon! read more

First thing they offered me, alcohol. Can't beat a mimosa on a Saturday morning :) My hairstylist was Helena(sp?) she was soooo sweet! And very thorough, she went back through after the cut and made sure everything was how I liked! I still ended up with not enough layers in the front though:/ The atmosphere is very happy and energetic but relaxing at the same time. Trendy an classy. Usually I am a groupon hair addict. I was looking for a high quality and fairly priced place to get my hair cut. My wife recently went here and Pamela, the owner, cut and styled her hair - she came home looking great! I decided to give it a shot and was very pleased. It feels very much like salons I was used to back in Chicago - great service, atmosphere, style and experience. After reading a ton of great reviews, I made an appointment with Pamela to chop some of my hair off and give it some volume. She did not disappoint! I was nervous throughout, just because I loved my (very) long hair and I wasn't sure how much I'd love a shorter (but still long) cut. She did an amazing job, and I'm in love with my hairstyle! It's just bouncy and healthy and fantastic. I'll definitely be going back for her skills. The reason I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5... most reviews talked about how great the atmosphere was. Once I was in Pamela's chair, it *was* great. But when I initially arrived, the receptionist made no effort to make me feel welcome - she didn't even attempt to pronounce my name (it really isn't that hard), just said "oh, you're the 11 o clock appointment" - that's all she said to me. Not sure if everyone is offered something to drink (others have reviewed that they were), but I wasn't. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but for a first time visitor, it was pretty off-putting. read more

Whoa, I scared myself in the mirror yesterday. Must be time for a haircut! I'm notorious for never planning ahead on haircuts and this time was no exception. As I perused Yelp for nearby salons I noted with resignation that almost all of the Riverside and San Marco spots were closed on Mondays. Shoot. I needed to at least make an appointment! Lo and behold, Salon on the Square was open, shining like a beacon through a bleak sea of split ends and flat bangs. I got on the books for the following morning, which was really better for my sched anyway since I had an Elite Event that night! I arrived on time for my 10 am appointment despite a curly que of construction detours going on around the San Marco Square. I sat with my stylist Lucy and showed her a picture of Grace Potter to explain what I was going for -- fringy bangs, layers, and long. In fact, If i could just have everything Grace Potter owns that would be great. She's kick ass. Anyways, I digress. I kind of zen out during haircuts and just focus on all the head rubbing, which may explain the horrible haircuts I've received without ever noticing until I look in the mirror at home. Sneaky head massagers! Luckily, this was not the case with Lucy. We discussed exactly how much length needed to come off, where the layers would fall and why, and we both took an oath to avoid too-short kindergartner bangs on grown women. The best part? It actually came out looking exactly like what we discussed! Eat your heart out Grace Potter, cause my fringe is so rock n' roll right now. Prices are what you'd expect for a nicer salon, $50 for your basic wash, cut, and blowdry. Lucy also loaded my hair up with product for shine and anti-frizz, making her blow out look even better. I was very happy with my experience at Salon on the Square today, and it may just become my new spot :) read more

I originally set up an appointment here with Pamela since I read so many great reviews about her, but since I needed to get an earlier time, I just decided to get my hair cut with someone else. My hair dresser's name was Courtney and she was super nice. I felt like she really cared about my hair and wanted to do a really good job with it. Well... She did. She did way beyond an amazing job. I originally have high expectations from a person cutting my hair coming from California and she did meet those expectations of mine. I have been living in Jacksonville for over 28 months now and have been fearful to change hair dressers. Making a 300 mile travel to south Florida just to get my hair done. Once I called they made it possible for me to come in on one of my few days off to come in and mutate back into a gorgeous gal. Elizabeth scheduled me in for a last minute dye, cut, and blow dry. I'm ashamed to admit I have not yet conquered my hair noise...although I suppose that's true of most ladies. We're not a rational bunch. I've been coming to this salon for probably a year now, and I'd say they've successfully been adopted as "the place I go to get my hair done". I'm generally a salon whore, but I believe I've found a relationship I can stick with. Salon on the Square uses Aveda hair products, so if you have a specific preference on which color/product you like in your hair (which I do not), keep that in mind. I've found that their color protect shampoo (also Aveda, obviously) works very well with their color. My hair doesn't hold color usually, but from the suggestion of Courtney my stylist I started using the color protect shampoo and my color lasts probably 3 - 4 weeks longer than it normally would. Speaking of product and sort of on the same train of thought, they're not real pushy about their product sales, which has not always been my experience with other salons. I know I don't need 87 different products in my hair on a daily basis (or ever) so I appreciate that they're really only interested in selling me what works with my hair and what I'm going to use with some regularity. I've twice bought the travel bottle of Moroccan oil per the suggestion of my stylist. She suggested the travel size bottle because it still lasts for 6 months (which I can now personally attest to), when she easily could have upsold the regular size bottle. I appreciated the honesty and looking out for my bottom line, since it's a fairly pricy salon to begin with. My stylist, Courtney, has a lovely personality that took a little getting used to. She's more interested in guiding her clients to making educated decisions about their own hair instead of just having carte blanche discretion to do what she deems best. Ultimately, this has been good for me and for her. I went in last night and chopped off 10" of my hair on a whim (relax, someone else is going to get good use of it) and she carefully and efficiently guided me through building a style for my new short hair that I'd be comfortable with. Instead of diving right into what she thought would look best for my hair, she let me tell her what I thought I wanted (which was completely off), cut it the way I asked, let me go home and sleep on it and see what I came up with that I wanted changed and then fit me in on a busy Saturday the next day for a 20 minute touch up. I appreciated her attention to me in my ridiculous impulsive decision. Also, she does a fantastic job with color. The location of the salon is wonderful too, I recommend taking a stroll through the Square after your appointment for some fro-yo or a drink or some shopping. read more

First, let me say that I am not one for high end haircuts. I prefer $5 men's specials at the local Paul Mitchell school, where I sit and watch students cutting fake hair on fake heads while my stylist gets her instructor to find out what she did wrong. Eh, shakes life up a bit. Anyways, I got a haircut at Salon on the Square as a gift. I figured I would see what a $30 haircut looked like, then go back to haircut roulette at Paul Mitchell (in all fairness, those students are doing a fantastic job; it just is what it is). I picked whomever matched my schedule, and I was unbelievably fortunate (or unfortunate, if you are my bank account) to get Olivia. Olivia does more than cut your hair; she wants to give you something you really like, something that lasts after weeks of hair growing out. And she is skilled enough and artful enough to find ways to make it happen. She will go out of her way to help you achieve your best self; today she even showed me how to style my facial hair. She is an incredibly warm person who will make you feel completely comfortable; she is not satisfied until you look your best. I can't imagine going anywhere else, to see anyone else. Spending money on any other haircut is just that, cutting hair, and a waste compared to what Olivia does for me. read more

I've been getting my hair cut and colored for over ten years and I never walk out saying "I love my hair!". I can't recommend Amy enough for both cut and color!!!! For my color, I had been going to a different Aveda salon and the hair dresser there had really messed up my hair. When I came in and described what I was after she immediately knew the right colors and technique to get me the blonde beachy look I was after. Amy has been doing hair for awhile but is relatively new to the salon so it is not very hard to get an appointment with her for now but I guarantee it will be soon. She was awesome! The salon is a very quaint salon that serves mimosas, coffee, cappuccinos, and more and has the highest end products. I don't have to look for a new salon anymore! read more

Really disappointed. I called this salon this morning and got an appt for 4:30 for a highlight bc I am here for business and got done with cases early. They called me 25 minutes before and canceled saying the hairstylist was not feeling well. I have 4 kids making it hard for me to get out and get my hair done. It was too late to get another appt with any other salon bc they were all booked up or it was too late and they did not have time to do a color! So frustrated and highly disappointed. read more

Very friendly. I give this salon 2 stars because of my post experience. The shop was clean, and the hair stylists were nice and friendly. So I got my hair dyed from bayalage brown/blonde to brown. Ari did my hair and I told her that I am tired of the maintenance and told her I wanted to dye my hair to as close to my natural as possible so I won't have to dye it again. She recommended a gloss because it was better for my hair, I knew it was kind of semi permanent, but ari said it would last a couple months. Well I got my hair dyed in September 14,2019 and notice shortly after it started to fade. Now not even 4 weeks later almost all my blonde is back. I called and talked to Elizabeth and she asked what shampoo I used and when I told her she was like oh that's why it's too strong and talked to me like I was dumb. I didn't know i was supposed to be using a color correction shampoo. NO ONE told me. Ari called me back and basically said the same thing, and she was like well it's almost been 4 weeks so it's time to dye it again and asked if i wanted to schedule an appointment to come in. This really made me mad because she told me it would take months to fade not weeks. Also she never once told me to use color correcting shampoo and didn't even offer to sell it to me. I guess I was supposed to know that. Anyways I wasted $135 and now have the same hair color I had when I went in. Do not recommend and I will never go back to their salon. read more

I moved here from California a couple of years ago and have been struggling to find a salon that is great at both cut and color like the salons I was used to in California. I have now used Salon on the Square several times and it is awesome! Great atmosphere, great location in San Marco and my hair looks incredible! Allison has been coloring hair for about 20 years and her experience shows! She takes time to talk to you before she starts coloring to ensure you are both on the same page. Like magic she then gets the color perfect! I have also seen Pamela, the owner, for both cut and color. She is fast and nails the color! She is also amazing at cutting! My hair hasn't looked this good since I moved here from California!!! Also Christy at the front desk does everything possible to ensure your experience is perfect! My schedule is hectic and it is sometimes challenging for me to find time to get to the salon. She is persistent and will do whatever she can to find times for me that work with my schedule. Also, you can book an appointment online - which I love! As soon as you arrive, they treat you like a guest in their home... Mimosas on Saturdays, wine, and sometimes even homemade goodies!
