Haircut: 3/5 Time: 4/5…read moreValue: 2/5 Communication: 4/5 Haircut: The haircut was a low-cut fade with half the length of hair I started with on the top. The fade and hairlines were very well done and symmetrical. A problem with a lot of barbers in the area is that they have the tendency to slant my hairlines but my barber constantly checked against the mirror to ensure that didn't happen. My main issue with the cut is that the top of my hair was not leveled properly, there was very noticeable loose ends on the top of my hair that I had to fix up at home. If he used a scissor for that patch of hair the haircut would have been perfect but he didn't use scissors, instead he tried to hover the clipper over my head. For the price, to miss something like that is fairly unacceptable but more on value below. Time: To get a fade to look as clean as possible I prefer my barber to take his time and that's exactly what he did. He made sure the fade was even on both sides and kept the length exactly as I asked. He would occasionally get side-tracked on his phone but it wasn't for long. Value: The cut was $25 which is pretty high when you consider that he left the top of my head uneven and with very noticeable loose ends. The thing about Rising Sun Ave is that it has a broad array of barbers of varying skill that reflect the price of their haircuts. If you go for a $5 cut, you will get a $5 cut. My $25 dollar haircut was not a $25 haircut and I will most likely not go back to this establishment for this reason alone. It's not that they cut hair horribly but they miss key details that shouldn't be missed. Communication: As he was cutting my hair he asked me various questions to make sure that I got my haircut styled the way I wanted to which is always a plus. I'm not big on small talk and he didn't attempt to ask any mundane questions like "How was your day?" so the experience was straightforward and to the point.

Prior cuts at chain salons were not good. Wally cut a good amount which is what I wanted. I definitely will be returning.

Don't let this place's humble location and laid back decor fool you, this is a top-notch salon with…read morehair professionals that are fantastic at what they do. Not only that, the service you get here comes with a smile, a genuine investment in your satisfaction with the service, and a willingness to go above and beyond any expectation for a very reasonable price. So, short story long: I needed a spiral perm, and I called around many a salon to come back with quotes that ranged from $100 to $250. I called "Hair We are" and asked for their price estimate. They said that it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 (including a trim). I figured I had nothing to lose, so I went to this salon. I was greeted with the warmest smiles and hellos from Betty and Melanie. Betty asked very detailed questions about what I wanted to achieve, assessed the state of my hair, and got to work. She somehow managed to elevate every step of the process with her careful and thoughtful approach. This is the first time in 2.5 decades that I did not walk out of a hair salon with a wet back. Betty put a ton of towels between me and the water when she was washing my hair, she protected the ears from water (something no one has ever done), and did a wonderful trim at the end. The result was so, so good! The perm for my hair length and the trim ended up being $70, but that is a really good price for what I got. I am definitely going to be a regular now. This is my salon. Definitely. Additional particulars: the salon offers a free wifi; you also get $5 off your next appointment for every referral that gets their hair done there from your recommendation. They do hair coloring, wash and set, and a ton of other hair services. They even do the pink/turquoise/purple/etc colors that are so popular right now. The cost, I believe, is $50 +$10 per each fantasy color. Betty is an open-minded contemporary woman who keeps abreast of the newest developments in the hair care industry. She is very knowledgeable about a lot of styles for the most varied clientele. You will be served well if you come to this salon for your hair.
