I've never had my hair professionally colored, nor have I been to an American based salon before. Groupon: My groupon consisted of color and cut. When I entered the store, the girl who was going to be working on my hair informed me that if I wanted a balayage that it would cost $30 extra, and for the length of my hair, another $20 (on Groupon they constantly advertise balayage, but there is no mention of the extra costs there). My friend who bought the same groupon said she was not charged extra, which is why I decided to give it a try, but low and behold. You know what, that's fine, I've already bought the groupon and was already sitting down. Experience: I asked for a trim of my long hair and a balayage. Trim: I asked for a basic trim, or about 1 inch off. I assume, easy enough. I'm not asking for something really bizarre? She literally only cuts the TOP portion of my hair and straight cut the rest. It's extremely choppy, jagged, and straight up looks like I asked my 10 year old cousin to do it for me. I didn't even realize it was this bad until I saw it today, which is why I decided to write a review. You might ask, why didn't I notice this in the salon or before? You sit facing AWAY from any mirrors at the salon, which is strange to begin with. I hated the haircut from the beginning and thought it was really bad, but I didn't know how bad it was until my mom pointed it out recently. See below for pictures. Balayage: not great, not terrible. I barely see the new color, but it's very similar to what I previously had. During the time the girl was dying my hair, she asked the owner many questions as to how to correctly balayage, what's the correct technique, how to put foil on, etc. she did not seem like she completely knew what she was doing and this should've been my sign. Sadly, my hair was curled at the end so even when looking in the mirror, it was hard to tell there was any issues. This entire experience makes me wary to try any new places again. Especially anything off of groupon.

My experience w/ Novella, proved to be exactly what my friend said. First off, she is VERY PROFESSIONAL, and nowadays it's rare that you find that in a stylist. The salon and Novella are very welcoming. The atmosphere of the salon is a breath of fresh air! She is very knowledgeable about her craft/skill of cosmetology. On to my hair. She did a strand test before putting chemicals on my hair and informed me of every product she was using without me having to ask. She answered all my questions in full detail & the salon has really nice extras to go above and beyond with our service (drink and snack machine, tables to do work while drying, places for our stuff that are visible to us). She even asked before doing little things like flipping my ends which most stylists will just do. I'm very pleased and it is clear she works for every penny she makes! I went from a burnt orange to black and silver grey in 1 single sitting. The contrast from before and after is absolutely unheard of. I have visited multiple stylists that have all told me that to achieve what she did today would take multiple visits. She accomplished it in the first visit.
