I have very curly hair and my last few color treatments at another salon was making my hair very brassy. I would like to start off by saying I don't even want to leave the house with my hair looking like this . I booked the appointment stating several times I wanted to go all over blonde , and that I was currently brunette . I get there and David the salon owner was the one I scheduled with he starts off by telling me that all over blonde will make my hair orange and that pretty much it's not going to happen today . I've gone all over blonde before with my old stylist and it was beautiful and healthy ( I've had dyed hair prior to that as well ) , David says we can only do all over highlights . I had already drove over an hour and since he's the owner he must know what he's doing, right ? However , I wish I had just left and saved my money & time . After my hair was done processing he didn't ask what I wanted to tone it with I guess he just made an executive decision on that and instead of mixing more toner he just kept slapping the bottle trying to get every little drop out , I'm paying you so maybe just mix more so there's enough to evenly tone ? Then when he's brushing my hair a bunch of my hair started breaking off and falling off which has absolutely never happened , I've had my hair done plenty of times to know that something was obviously done wrong . I could tell from the moment I sat down he wasn't interested in a long process which is probably why he didn't want me to do all over blonde . Now I am stuck with this y2k blotchy , brassy and chunky highlighted hair . I'm a very understanding person , I know platinum blonde doesn't just happen after the first appointment but this is absolutely ridiculous $200 after tip . Ofcourse I tipped because , I would have liked to think he tried his best but In reality he clearly just wanted to get me out ASAP ! I truly wasnt going to leave a review because i expected my situation to be handled more professionally and i understand that mistakes happen, but it wasnt so here i am. I have straight hair (easy to work with), i came in asking for a half inch to an inch trim and a refresh on my existing face framing pieces/ layers. Made sure to express that i am in the process of growing my hair out. I watched this man (George) realize he had screwed up when he chopped a fat chunk of my hair. No accountability, no attempt to remedy the situation. Even if i had asked for a mullet, its still a horribly choppy and uneven mullet. Its bad. No apology from management when i called asking for a refund bc to spend a nickle on this haircut would be too much. My front "face framing pieces" were cut to my earlobe and that length was taken all the way back to behind my ear. Except for some random strands that were left long? Its so weird and so bad. I should have just went with my gut feeling when I read the reviews. But I fell into the trap of wanting to try a Groupon. It was with Ashley. If you're trying to grow your business, you should think about having better business practices. I went only for a root touchup and when I sent pictures the next day that there was as still places uncovered, she did offer to fix it. Then came around of scheduling conflicts. It was my understanding that we were both on the same page as far as working around each other's reasons for needing to reschedule. The first option to correct the service I paid for, was on a Sunday morning-- on Mother's Day. That is not a holiday that I have time to spend in a salon, especially since my family already had established plans. Regardless, she also had a family emergency and then went out of town and it pushed out the scheduling even further. Now it comes time to fix my hair & she decides to tells me it's too late. She NEVER once communicated that she was as only going to honor the value & integrity of her services *by a certain time* I am a reasonable and understanding person. All it would've taken is clear communication. We were texting very frequently. I thought she was being nice. Today, I learned she is just rude & unprofessional. Read the reviews! I was thrilled until the next day my hair was a brassy green color. Went in a couple days later to re tone, only for it to switch up again the next day. concerned I texted Stevie, he recommended I use a red conditioner; not familiar with the product I sent a couple pictures via text wanting to make sure I was buying the right product. Instead, I got a really rude annoyed response back. After spending more than 200 dollars at this franchise, I guess I just expected more. No one deserves to be talked to the way I was for simply wanting aftercare instructions. read more

I had an appointment today with David, I needed beige partial baby highlights and a haircut. I showed a picture to him, explained that I did not want an orange tone and I wanted to look natural. I noticed he was doing 3 more different clients at the same time, after doing the foils put me in the hair dryer for a long time and at the end he did not even check the tone, just instructed someone to wash my hair. The result: orange chunky highlights, and my scalp still hurts because he used bad quality (cheap) product in my hair. Please keep your hair away from him, He does not listen and worst He does not care. I hope my bad experience is useful for someone else, having color in our hair is not cheap, as we all know, so it is better to learn from other person's experience and avoid bad results. read more

If I could give this negative stars I would. AVOID THIS PLACE AND STEVIE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I went in to get some blonde highlights from an all natural brown hair so should've been pretty easy and has always been easy for me in the past. Just to give you a timeline of my experience - First, he forgot my appointment entirely and had a date planned so his date showed up mid-service and he was completely distracted while my hair was setting. His hands also smelled like cigarette smoke completely. By the time he blow dried my hair, it was coppery with bright blonde MONEY PIECES. I never asked for money pieces. He obviously had to leave and apologized and asked me to come again so he could fix it. I even tipped him $50 because I trusted he'd do a better job the second time. He told me to buy purple shampoo and use that between then and the next appointment. It completely turned my hair a silver purple color and I looked like a zoo animal at this point. THEN I decided to go back because he promised he'd fix it for free. 4 hours later, I still hated it at (it barely looked any different at this point) and made sure to let him know it wasn't much better and my hair still looked and felt terrible. Oh also he then charged me $25 for a blow dry LOL. I then decided to cut my losses and go to a color specialist at this point. She took before and after pictures and said that Stevie not only did a terrible job with color but actually did some severe damage to my hair with whatever products he decided to use. My highlights made me look like my roots were tiger striped. So $700 and 2 sessions later my hair is a LITTLE closer to what I originally wanted. I still have to go back one more time to tone. I've texted Stevie multiple times now to ask for a refund with ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. At least own up to your work. So unprofessional. So rude. Save yourself the time and money and avoid Stevie and this place like the plague. read more

I have been going to David for 17 years, since I was 11. David is a visionary when it comes to hair! Whether I want a change in style or need maintenence David is the go to man. During college I did try to cut corners and had a few others do my hair. I realized Davids skill was exceptionally better than many out there and couldnt imagine going anywhere else. Great coloring, styles and cuts. I can walk in with an exact style in mind and he is able to provide guidance along with delivering exactly what I want. I got a great cut and color from Jim speck. I am very happy with both. The only thing that surprised me, and I guess it really should not have, is that the Groupon I thought I had was not valid. Apparently a second Groupon in a year is not possible. It is written on the Groupon in the explanatory terms and I guess I just overlooked it. I was able to purchase this Groupon so I thought it was good. It was not and I had to pay full service charges which were $100 more than I had planned. 160 total. My first time going to this magnificent salon and I am so impressed by the how friendly everyone is in here. My stylist Stevie is in my eyes the best but everyone that came in seemed so happy with their stylist. The owner is very friendly and outgoing to everyone it was just so nice to be treated like a Queen by everyone that was in there. Earlier today my 33 week pregnant wife, in tow with our 14 month old son, visited a small local business near Salon Utopia in Cherry Creek for a much needed chiro appt. Entering into the small parking lot, my wife discovers that the spaces for the business she is visiting were full. Yes, she made the decision (bad one) to park in one of the available spaces provided to patrons of Salon Utopia. She parked, attended her appointment and returned to the car. In drives David Leon, the owner of Salon Utopia. David Leon pulls into the available space next to where my wife is parked, gets out of the car, takes a look at my wife's pregnant belly - apparently making a connection that she was not a customer of his salon and proceeds to confront my wife about where she parked. This is entirely reasonable. She absolutely should not have parked there. Unfortunately, this is where David Leon crosses the line. David Leon confronts my wife and then proceeds to verbally harass and physically intimidate my wife - my 33 week pregnant wife who is carrying my 14 month old son. David Leon, while confronting my wife, walks to within a few feet of her demanding to hear what she said as a response to his demand. After his third attempt, my wife responds, "you need to leave me alone or I will call the police." The harassment escalates further and with an intimidating voice demands that she follow through with calling the police. My now scared and intimidated wife repeats herself, "you need to leave me alone." Thankfully, this is where it ends. Are you kidding me, David Leon? Is this how you treat your customers and employees? Beyond confronting a bad behavior, is it at all appropriate to use your voice and physical presence to intimidate and harass someone? I LOVE this salon! Maddy is amazing - best stylist I have ever had. I had just moved to Denver and was in desperate need of a new style and some serious color. I actually bought a Living Social or Groupon (can't remember now) and called for an appointment. Maddy was available and they booked me with her - could not have worked out better! Not only do I not have to tell her how to cut my hair - she just knows and does it perfectly each time - but she is a master of color! I have yet to walk out of there anything but incredibly happy. The salon is located in the heart of Cherry Creek - right around the corner from the Cricket - and has parking (a real rarity in Cherry Creek - hell, Denver in general). I've been going to David to get my hair done for over 15 years. To say he's incredibly talented would be an understatement. I have curly hair, and he always knows exactly how to cut it so that it's not short and has just the right amount of layers. My hair is always so healthy and beautiful after he cuts it. David is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet. As a salon owner, he has created a very enjoyable environment. I absolutely love coming in for an appointment and strongly recommend David. I have been going to this salon for more then 10 years. Since before they move to this location on Josephine. Everyone is pretty friendly and Anna and James are the 2 people I can go on and on about. Anna though, is the one this review is about. Anna Serdyuk has been my go to person for manicures and pedicures for more then 15 years. She's unbelievable. Has a light hand, and is the only one who can cut out my in-grown toe nails in such a way that actually lets them grow out! The way she applies nail polish makes it last longer then a month on my toes and at least a week on my hands (& my hands are always in water with 2 kids). She also uses the original shellac polishes. Not knock offs. I had done "shellac" at another salon (Anna was booked and I decided not to wait) and then couldn't get it off my finger nails! I finally had to call Anna and go see her just to try to remove the stuff! It took longer then 30 minutes of soaking and also scraping with the manicure stick to get it off my nails. It was ridiculous. The real stuff is easily taken off at home or at a salon. Learned that the hard way though. Anyway, if you need a pedi or a mani, you should definitely make an appointment with Anna. You will not regret it. She takes her time and does a beautiful, durable paint job. It appears that my first review which detailed the damage the two owners did to my hair was altered. Recap: The color damage from these two men was so severe that 5 years of length retention needed to undergo a big chop. After 3 months, my hair stopped shedding and it looked like a ragged mullet because I couldn't stomach chopping it all off. It wasn't long enough or even enough to put it bun style nor wear it straight. And I was unable to trust any other hair stylist after this experience. It has been almost a year since my last visit to the salon. The amount of hair that broke off made me sick to my stomach and caused me to be depressed for many months. There was also a hole in the back of my head from the missing hair. When I look at my hair today, it still makes me cry. It will take another 4 years for my hair to return back to its original length prior to that fateful day where I was left under the dryer with over processed color, then a recolor to cover up the over processed color, and then heat damage from over blow drying my hair. And then I went back to the other guy who did the opposite of what I wanted and damaged it even further. A friend asked me why did I decide to wear my hair short so I told her that this is damaged hair and it wasn't by choice. read more
