I had a very bad experience with blonde hair at El Salon with hairdresser Jessica. You can see the result in the photo: the re-grown roots are colored in a completely different color than the rest of my hair. At the same time, the master did not even check the quality of the coloring. The service is very bad: I asked to dry my hair, but it turned out that I had to separately order the drying of my hair after dyeing and in advance. I was ready to pay extra, but the hairdresser did not have time. I have a question: how can the hairdresser make sure that the hair is dyed correctly without drying the hair? Or does the hairdresser not have to make sure that the hair is dyed well? I left the salon with wet hair, and after drying my hair at home, I saw what a terrible job she did. I visited El Salon for second time yesterday , worked with Brad for a hair cut and color. Brad was great, very professional and I'm sad to say I won't be returning to this salon due to the management there. While my hair color was processing, 2 more clients came in with a photographer - right away the photographer started taking pictures as the two clients were getting hair services- The photographer was walking all around, not being very respectful of the social distancing protocol , as well as taking photos from all angles. While sitting in the chair, due to multiple mirrors through out the salon, I could see others images reflected, and I was concerned that my image may be in the photos. I didn't appreciate this breech in privacy, so I calmly walked to front desk and asked the manager there to ask the photographer to be more respectful of my privacy and comfort. Well-- I'm not sure what he said, but the photographer and the client started glaring at me- obviously annoyed. Then, another manager, AJ came over to the client and photographer and introduced himself, welcomed them, stating we are so glad your here, and if we can accommodate you in anyway, we are happy to do so! So it's obvious they consider the needs of one client more important than another- and sadly, they could have easily accommodated all clients by diplomatically stating - please be considerate of all the clients in the shop- I wasn't there to be part of anyone's photo shoot while getting my hair done! Maybe I wasn't in any photos, but I don't think it was up to me to have to ask for the basic consideration. Again, sadly this situation could have been handled much better if the management was more professional and considerate. I received a "welcome to the neighborhood" coupon for a free haircut (a very nice gesture). I haven't gotten one since the pandemic started so I was excited. When I walked in, I was first told to wash my hands and then given a sanitized pen to sign some forms. These were the first of several cleanliness protocols including immediately sanitizing anything anyone touches, I was amazed and felt much safer than almost any public place I've been in recently. I went to El Salon for the first time yesterday even though I have lived in the neighborhood for many years. I got a Groupon for a facial because I am getting married this year and wanted to try to find a place I really liked for making sure my skin is where I would like it to be by August. The service they provided was just as if I had paid full price and that is VERY rare. The greeting staff were so warm (A.J.) and especially Oso the dog ;) and they even had a sign welcoming me since it was my first visit! Small touch that goes a long way. The facial experience itself, with Tiffany, was wonderful. She was super sweet and knowledgeable and did not make me feel bad about my skin - which I have experienced before with other estheticians. I had was given two masks with a total of 3 treatments after the steam and extractions. While the masks were setting, she gave me foot massages, which was a very welcome surprise! Tiffany was not pushy about additional treatments but did share with me how different treatments would be beneficial down the line if I decided to do them. I got color and a cut here. I specifically told the stylist (Ed) to not to cut my hair short and to take only a a max of about an inch off from my hair. I told him this repeatedly. He acknowledged it and said he will take off about an inch. He ended up taking off about 4.5 inches off my hair. I was devastated. My hair grows really slow and it would take about another year for me to grow back that hair. But I, like a good little girl didn't complain and even tipped him 20%. Total charges $360+. I went home and cried and then called the salon and told them what happened. The person who answered apologized and said he will have Ed call back. No one called me back, no apologies, no concessions nothing. I suffered in silence. I'm still so so upset about my hair. I spent $360 and am still suffering every time I look at my hair. I would not recommend this salon for new clients. I set up this appointment for my 16 year old daughter with Ed. First they made her wait an hour after her appointment time with no heads up prior to the apointmnet they were running late. Ed was clearly trying to make up on time as he did her partial highlights and cut in little over an hour. The end result costing us $300.00 was a partial highilight/blond streaks and a choppy hair cut. We were offered to come back to the salon and have another sytlist take a look but we declined. I recently went back to Brad at El Salon for a long overdue haircut due to the Covid-19 stay at home orders and was very impressed with how seriously El Salon is taking safety and cleanliness during the pandemic. I was greeted with a mask outside and directed to wash my hands on entering. The stylists and other employees kept at least 6' distance and frequently used alcohol to sterilize everything. I bought a gift certificate to El Salon in a silent charity auction. I had been growing my hair out for my wedding and I knew that after it was done I would want a big change. The gift certificate was for a haircut and color with highlights, and was specific to a certain stylist. From a business perspective, it makes a certain amount of sense that if you are donating services for the purpose of a silent auction, of course you are not going to donate the time of your most talented and profitable stylists. However, the salon had such good reviews on Yelp that I figured I couldn't go wrong no matter who I ended up with. I was wrong. The salon itself is difficult to find (I drove past it twice before I spotted it), and parking is completely non-existent. This is a dense residential neighborhood with street parking only. They won't let you tip on a debit/credit card, you have to write a check or give cash to the stylist personally. I had no idea that would be the case and was caught off guard when I went to tip the stylist at the end of my appointment. I don't typically carry cash, and I was not happy to have to write a check to her personally. It was extremely off-putting and left me feeling a bit weird. What happens if a customer does not have cash or checks on them, only a debit card - does the stylist get screwed over? You would have to remember to get cash every time you had an appointment. So weird. I had a very lengthy conversation with the stylist about what kind of haircut I wanted, and exactly what I wanted as far as color. I had pictures to illustrate what I wanted, but since we did not look at one of the books of color swatches I had to take it on faith that we were on the same page regarding the color. What I ended up with didn't really look like what I had asked for. It was too dark, and strayed too far into the purple end of the color spectrum. Also, when she put in the red peekaboo highlights I asked for she placed them based on parting my hair down the middle. But since I part my hair to one side, the bright red section that was supposed to be mostly hidden was instead right on top, which looked fairly terrible. It was a simple miscalculation, but it had some pretty dramatic consequences. After waiting a week and a half or so for the color to hopefully fade down to a lighter shade I finally called to see if they could fix it. I have to say that they were really good about setting up another appointment at no cost with no complaints. I had high hopes that everything would get straightened out, but I knew it was pretty much a one shot deal. Even with the advanced products available now, I could feel the damage in my hair from having it colored once, and now I was going to go through that process again. I insisted that we use one of the swatch books for reference, and we had another lengthy conversation about the color I wanted. There is absolutely no way I could have communicated more thoroughly and precisely what my desires and expectations were. At the end of the second appointment my hair looked like a radioactive leprechaun and it was all I could do to keep myself together long enough to get out the door. I should gone somewhere else to get it fixed and not given them a second chance to eff it up even worse. You couldn't pay me to go back to El Salon. read more

I've gone to Bruce at El Salon for years... and only stopped going to him because I moved to San Francisco. I recently went home to Colorado for a wedding and desperately needed a haircut and called on Bruce. Love me some Bruce!!! Here's why: He's fast. Bruce always manages to give me an amazing aroma therapy scalp massage, wash/condition, hair cut & style in under an hour (this last time it took him 40 minutes!) I hate being at a salon for hours when I'm just getting a haircut!!!!! He listens. Sounds simple... but I know that you know that it's hard to come by a stylist who actually gives you what you want! I like long hair & Bruce leaves my hair long **AHHH** (angels singing) He's good. When I walk out of there somehow the wind is always blowing through my sex-goddess hair! How does he do it?!?! He's fun. Love chatting with Bruce - he makes the (short) stay in his stylist chair enjoyable! So go to El Salon... go to Bruce. I see Ron Lopez here and have waited until a few visits so I could solidly say "Woohoo!" and really mean it. I take hair very seriously! You get that way when you have cancer. And Ron knows just how to make you look your best even in the midst of a crisis. I am not a vain person, but I truly believe Ron's skills helped me get through a very difficult time in my life. Undergoing a mastectomy and unable to lift your arms and wash your own hair? Why not do a brazilian blowout so your hair looks perfect with no effort! I remember Ron saying, "Let's at least make one aspect of your life easy." He was so right, and I never would have thought changing things in just a miniscule way could make a world of difference in how I looked to myself and the rest of the people who came to see me. A huge thanks if you are reading this, Ron. In addition to working small miracles, Ron also does very natural looking color. I loved the place I went before, but never felt like they nailed my color on the first try. Ron did and does. His cuts are also fantastic. You know it's a good cut when it can air dry and still look good. To me, that's the dividing line. Lastly, they are always prompt here. One of the last straws at my former salon was that I was kept waiting. I feel like they value my time enough not to make me wait for 30 min. I asked for two large chunks of bright purple in my hair, but I let Joel talk me into his "concept" which ended up being small amounts of subtle blues barely noticeable throughout my head. Part of my dissatisfaction about the color is my own fault for not insisting on what I wanted, but he led me to think we were on the same page as far as what a "bright" color looks like and the price was too much for me to be this indifferent. Haircut was passable, but I've had the same at Floyd's for a fraction of the price. I was recommended to try this salon by a friend. Although my stylist successfully cut colored and styled my hair I didn't have the best customer service and I think it was way over priced. The receptionist barely acknowledged me and I accept superior service for the cost of my haircut. Also u can't tip on a credit card which they didn't notify my of until I was checking out. Ron Lopez has been doing my hair for over 1 year now! He really is the best I have ever had! I get blond highlights, over my naturally medium brown hair. I have suffered A LOT for this blond hair. Over the years it has been orange, pink, stripey, chunky, muddy, brassy....you name it! But Ron GETS IT!!! It is the perfect creamy blond! I always love the outcome! It's such a perfect color for me that I even feel comfortable without make-up. He's done it about 5 times now and I have loved it every time! He also is a great haircutter!! Very up-to-date! My hair always lays perfectly from his cut. Just blow dry with a round brush and go!! Oh, and he showed me how to actually use a round brush so I don't end up with a "mushroom' in the middle layers! He is very helpful and encourages me with my hair and tells me if he thinks something would'nt work. I really trust him! I have rarely had that with a hairdresser. I just wish he lived in Aspen!! But, I am willing to drive the 4 hours and stay overnight in a hotel! He is worth it!! read more

Matthew Graham is AMAZING. He's the only person allowed to touch my hair for the rest of eternity. He's cut it twice now and I'll never go back to anyone else. For my first cut, I had just dyed my hair black and wanted something completely different. Matt talked me into a "scene-kid" cut with lots of layers and some neat bangs. It was AWESOME. It looked great with tons of volume or just flat out of the shower. Second cut: I had managed to damage my hair to the point where we needed to take off about 3 inches. He gave me a great new style and told me about my different options on how he could cut it without taking away the length (something important to me). After my cut, he showed me different ways I could style it at home and took me right to the products I needed to maintain my style, no messing around with awkward sales taxes. The staff is always friendly and attentive. They always offer water or coffee when I sit down, and they are great about calling back any time I leave a message. The price for a cut and style is actually a bit less than I have paid in the past, which is great! Coloring is about what you would expect it to be as they use high end products. Taylor is my usual stylist, although I have received cuts from a couple others while being a "demo" for a few classes. Taylor is great about giving me the cut I want, but is also very honest if she thinks my hair won't look exactly like a picture I have shown her. In the end, I usually just give her a general idea of what I want and I let her work her magic! I always recommend friends to this place and haven't heard a bad thing yet! read more

I went to El Salon on a whim because a friend had recommended a stylist there and because I was so fed up with my hair looking horrible - I was on the verge of tears and desperate. A little back story... I have been in CO for 3 years now. When I moved here, I had long, thick hair half way down my back with long layers. Over these 3 years I have had numerous "stylists" jack my hair up from cut to color so badly that I actually went back home 2 years ago and had my stylist cut my hair to above my shoulders to start over. 1st cut I get 3 months later in CO, and she cuts short layers into hair I specifically tell her I'm growing out. My hair has basically looked from horrible to okay for 3 years. Cut to this past June when it was finally starting to look better, but needed a trim and a little style put back into it. I went to a recommended stylist, told him 3 times that I did not want bangs as I had been growing them out for 6 months and they were now just below my chin. He assured me he would not trim them shorter than my chin. He cut them just below my eye. I say "eye" because, he also cut them very unevenly - as he did the rest of my hair. I paid $85 for that disaster... But you can't tell how bad a haircut is until you go home and wash out all the curl and crap they put into your hair to hide what they did! (I don't let them do that anymore) 3 months later I go to a stylist to try and "fix" his mess, and she basically just trims the same cut (uneven and everything). 1.5 months later and I was desperate for someone to fix my hair - it looked horrible. I was set up with Jamie, who I told my sob story to, she listened and then she explained in detail what she was going to do to make it look better (there's growing out to be done for it to be "fixed"). She did exactly what she said she was going to do and it looks a million times better. My hair is again almost to the middle of my back, and the "too short" layer which stops halfway down my hair isn't even noticeable, all of my layers blend well. My ends no longer look scraggly because she didn't just texturize at the ends like every other stylist does. It even passed the Mom Test. Who, when I tell her I like a hair cut, immediately video chats me and says, "Let me see the back." This is the 1st time she has ever said, "Oh, it looks good!" Yes, FINALLY, it does. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jamie! I'd recommend anyone to Jamie, but especially anyone with long, thick hair - or anyone who needs a cut fixed. She's very personable and the time in her chair flew by. She's also affordable!! Not cheap, affordable. ;) You can't tip on a credit card at El, btw. read more
