Salon West(cottage hill location specifically)is a place that I highly recommend you give a try! I have been going for a couple years now. Hilary was who first cut my hair, then Taylor & today I called and thankfully got in for a haircut by Alexis. They all along with the other ladies there are so nice and it's such a great relaxing environment. We are moving and I'm NOT looking forward to having to find a new salon! Color correction by Allie. Nice cut and color. 95 dollar highlights turned into 180 with add on services that was not in my budget and I could have done without. Over 400$ for a simple cut and highlight. Definitely did not get close enough to the root like I'm use to having done other places. read more

I loved my experience here! Well, technically I went to the second location on Old Shell. This is an Aveda Concept Salon. I had no idea what all that meant before coming here. I just needed a new hairdresser ASAP! But, they use Aveda products which are all natural, even the hair color is plant-based. I left a salon feeling pretty for the first time in a long time. Alex West was super helpful in explaining how I will get my hair from Point A to Point B. My hair is so much improved since my visit there. I love the products they use. 3/21/20 -I produced a picture to Dawn Clayton, Master Hair Stylist at Salon West 54, Mobile AL and asked at least three times if she could cut my hair in the simple cut featured in the picture; she confirmed she could. I've had stylists cut my hair in this style several times with no problem. Even she has cut it successfully like this in the past. She reassured me a few times she could do this. I had an extremely healthy, thick, long head of hair when I walked into the salon. When I walked out, I couldn't even put it in a ponytail. She butchered my hair, and I could do nothing with it to make it even a bit attractive; it hits right at the top of my neck! Clearly this is not what the picture depicted or what I asked for. I contacted manager Julia Liller on 6/25/20 after hearing from my credit card company (I sent them pictures and other documentation, but they could not help me because of some laws and regulations), and she was arrogant and even yelled at me for suggesting to her I wanted to be refunded for the extremely poor quality hair cut. Due to the extremely poor quality cut I received from Ms. Clayton, the now inability to style my hair to make it presentable and attractive, and the overall utterly horrible, aggressive customer service I received from Ms. Liller, I will never purchase products or patronize their business again; and despite the fact they receive 5-star ratings online, I would encourage others to be very wary of utilizing their services. I would not even give them 1-star, but the system forces a grading prior to writing a review. I was Ms. Clayton's last client of the day, when she also mentioned something about her disability affecting her (I will not mention her issue to protect her privacy) while I was yet in her chair. These are two red flags I overlooked, and which I will not make the mistake of doing again. I am not requesting a refund on the four AVEDA products I purchased from the salon. I am asking for a a full refund on the absolute chop job hair cut I got for $65. Keep the tip, although I don't think Ms. Clayton deserves that for the trouble she has caused me by destroying my hair. Olga L. I walked in with no appointment after having a horrible experience at some other hair salon with a poor quality and ugly color highlights and asked for help. I was desperate and didn't expect much thinking I wound be turned down as nothing could be done to fix my mess. I was so impressed that people were so nice and professional and were willing to help! A couple of hairdressers looked at my hair and came up with the plan to "clean up" my poorly done coloring job. Mason was the guy who did my hair and made me look a lot better. Made me feel comfortable bringing my five month old along because paranoid first time mom me. My daughter got married June 2nd at the Grand Hotel. Julie drove from Mobile to Fairhope very early in the morning to do the hair of the entire wedding party, the mother of the bride, and the bride's aunt. She was totally professional and everyone loved their hair. She was pleasant and fun to work with and even returned to the Grand Hotel after the ceremony to put in a special headpiece that the bride had bought to wear after she took off her veil for the reception. I'll start by saying the customer service was excellent. Very polite. Top notch! Though I did mention that I had an important meeting in the coming days and with this being said, the stylist paid little attention to detail. In the initial glancing over of the cut towards the end, I saw it to be rather nice. It was only when I looked closer that I noticed the blase attitude in the result -- An uneven cut. I wish the stylist (him) the best as he is young and might have been having a bad day. Final thoughts? Please make every haircut a priceless work of art. Customer service is great. Actually, it could not be better. Very friendly. But, the main reason you go into a hair salon is for a great haircut. After reading the reviews, I chose to make an appointment at Salon West 54 Hundred. I have thick curly hair and asked for the stylist that would be best with my hair type. I ended up with a very uneven hair cut and a color that washed out in a matter of 2 weeks. Thankfully I was able to schedule an appointment with my regular stylist and she fixed my hair. I will admit that I did not try to call or go back to this salon. I was honestly scared that they would mess my hair up worse than it was. read more

Worst experience ever!!!! Made an appointment with Alexis for color and highlights and could not schedule for a few weeks. I completely understand that. Spoke with the receptionist and explained that I was a new client. Asked if there was anything I could do in the interim to cover a good month of gray roots. She mentioned a "throw and go". Sounded perfect!! I took off of work early which is very challenging because of my responsibilities as a branch manager. Arrived at the salon and was told that because I was not an existing client that I was not eligible for the throw and go because I did not have a formula on file. I was offered the option of PURCHASING a daily temporary treatment to cover my gray until my appointment on July 7th. Wow!!!! I hate I had to give a one star.
