Have only been to Sals once ordered the stuffed crust and I must say it was delish! We went to pick it up and the girl at the front desk was friendly and our pizza was ready when we arrived. We will defiantly be back for more pizza! read more

My family and I just moved to Kenosha after living in downtown Chicago (PIZZATOWN) and suburbs (PIZZABURBS!!!) all our lives. It's been difficult to find good pizza in Kenosha (((shocking to us))) so we are thrilled to have found Sal's....no easy feat since from what we can tell, Sal's does not advertise or have a web-presence. We found it driving down Sheridan road. 4.5 STARS: If I could, I'd give Sal's a solid 4.5 stars but rounded up after comparing Sal's to the other local pizzas including Kaiser's which we found flat-tasting and price-prohibitive!..Kaiser's needs a touch of sweetness introduced SOMEWHERE - maybe caramelized onion in the sauce or a couple sprinkles of sugar in the raw dough...their sausage/pepperoni deep dish was pretty nice but super expensive for what it is - sorry - anyway... getting back to Sal's and I do want to get back to Sal's! THE SHORT ANSWER: We loved both their "thin" crust and "pan" crust pizza but the clear winner was their thin crust which is clearly hand tossed. They apparently offer a stuffed option also. Very friendly and helpful order taker and delivery person and FAST delivery!!! DISCLAIMER: I'm a pastry chef so probably pickier than most and pretty jaded being from Chicago, pizza capital of the world where great pizza can be stumbled on without trying hard so maybe factor that in as you read this review. COMPARED TO: Kaiser's, Jimanos, Luigi's and chains like Dominos and Lil' Caesar's. I can't remember what most of them tasted like but know they probably weren't worth remembering or had surly help. NOT YET TRIED but want to: Roma Pizza in Winthrop Harbor, Mangia Kenosha (free pizza appetizer from 3-6pm on Thursdays with alcoholic beverage purchase according to their website) , and Tenuto's Deli pizza from their fridge section. CHAIN??? or ...UNKNOWN???: So...I was surprised to find MANY Sal's in the lower south-eastern WI area. Are they a chain? I don't know but there are 5 in the area. I just ordered one week ago from the SAL'S on Sheridan Road at 76th Street in Kenosha and plan to order again today as soon as they open. STAFF and ORDERING: The lady on the phone was super nice. So helpful too since I put her through the ringer questioning her about all sauce and crust options ( I tried but I could find no information or menu online besides yelp). We have someone who is very sensitive to tomatoes and she was very patient and very understanding and clearly wanted to accommodate us where sauce options were concerned. We ended up deciding on a 16" thin crust with tomato sauce and cheese (20" is their largest option) and a 16" pan with half tomato sauce/half olive oil and fresh basil (the basil never made it as far as I could tell) since basil pesto was not offered...and topped with cheese. COST: Our total was around $28.50 for both a thin and pan crust 16" size plus delivery. The order ticket did not break down the pricing so have no idea what cost what. I didn't pay attention to whether or not they take Credit Cards - we paid cash at our front door upon delivery. DELIVERY: FAST! from the time of order to delivery at our door was about 45-50 minutes instead of the hour or hour+15 they estimated on the phone...they are not very far from us but I consider that fast compared to others in Kenosha we've tried who are very close by as well. THIN: They do a pretty fancy edge - it appeared to be rolled and the toppings go almost right up to the edge which we found really nice. It loses half a star for me because the crust could be much crisper for the type of dough they use which is a bit tough but super tasty in that you can taste the yeast and is nicely balanced in flavor - this is really important because it appears they use the same dough for their pan pizza that has about 3-4 times the dough for the same diameter. If you are looking for cracker-thin, keep searching...this thin crust is more like home-made in your kitchen oven at 375 degrees without a pizza stone. Can't speak to the toppings - we only ordered cheese with tomato sauce. PAN: the dough was very bagel-like and tasted very home-made with nice yeasty flavor and dense, bread-like consistency. Again, as with the thin crust, the bottom was not crisp though it was brown. We found large slices of soft garlic on their pan pizza - added a lot of flavor and made us feel the sauce was probably home-made as well as the crust. CHEESE-CRUST RATIO: They put a LOT of cheese on their pies. With some places you have to order extra - not here. We found the ratio of sauce-to-crust-to-cheese just about perfect on the thin crust pizza. All in all, very good pizza at a reasonable price with super nice staff and speedy service. SAL'S will be our regular pizza place unless we are feeling adventurous.. we are so happy to have accidentally found them. read more

Living in Kenosha with a sea of pizza joints, it can be tough to make a decision when thinking of where to order from... I decided to give this place a try after reading some reviews & wasn't disappointed. One big plus for me is the fresh ingredients. I love mushrooms on my pizza & typically have to tolerate the canned variety, but was pleasantly surprised when this pizza was delivered with FRESH mushrooms!!! I tried the thin crust, which is a mix between a "true thin" (cracker crust) & a virgin crust. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was actually really good. The next time we ordered the Stuffed Pizza & it was awesome! I'm kind of a pizza snob when it comes to a Chicago style sauce on top pizza & I wouldn't hesitate to order this again. (if that tells you anything). As far as the service goes... When I call to order, the person on the other end is always friendly & eager to take my order. The delivery drivers are equally as friendly. Overall a great place in a "sea" of local pizza joints. Definitely worth a try! read more

After ordering strictly from Carl's for pizza year after year, we stumbled upon Sal's and decided to give it a try...I cannot believe more people don't know about this little gem! The pizza was cooked to perfection--very fresh ingredients and a wonderfully-flavorful sauce. We really enjoyed the crust too (maybe even more than Carl's). We've ordered from them several times and have always been pleased. Their Italian beef sandwiches are also excellent. We'll keep going back and think you should give them a try! read more

We love the x-thin crusted pizza and their Italian salad. We order from here at least once a week. Have to have our cheese and sausage pizza. It is a small dining room, but you feel like your are family here. The owner is very friendly and helpful to her new customers. We love it!! read more

You know the saying "there's a bar on every corner is Wisconsin"? Well same goes for great pizza joints! When we first moved here and hadn't unpacked the kitchen yet I ran to Sals to pick up dinner and have been back plenty of times since. The staff was super friendly and chatted it up while l waited for my food to be cooked and offered a small discount since I was paying with cash. Salads are huge and overflowing with crisp romaine and a variety of fresh veggies, meat and cheese, pizza hit the spot with a nice chewy crust and great sauce. We have also tried the turnovers which is basically a ginormous pizza pocket smothered in their incredible red sauce, you can get whatever toppings you please and it can easily feed you for 4 meals it's so huge. The only downside is that their thin crust is still pretty doughy and thick, while delicious in the same but if you are looking for a thin crispy crust this is not the place to look. We are from Chicago so we are funny about pizza. Sal's pizza is wonderful, we don't have to make a run to Chicago anymore for a good pizza. The owner is a nice person and we enjoy seeing her each time. We have had a couple of friends meet at Sal's for a pizza get together and everyone in our group loved the pizza and now their addicted to Sal's. First I will say a heartfelt *THANK YOU* to Sal's for using sustainable packaging! Well, at least for the pizza delivery, it came in a thin paper bag on a cardboard circle. There was a $5 charge for the far delivery, but since I read such great things, I had to try them! So hungry it took an hour!! Ordered a thick crust with mushrooms, garlic, spinach and green peppers and the garden salad. The crust looks great on the edge of the pizza but the underneath crust was thin. The toppings portion left me hungry, very hungry! Skimpy and Wimpy! That's why the 3 stars and not 4...I wonder if the meat pizzas come like that??? Next time I will let them know not to skimp, I'm an adult, I like my vegetables:) They did Not skimp on the cheese though, kids would love it! The crust really was the best part, it's hard to find good pizza at home :( On to the Salad! I just don't get this place...every one is liking it but i have no luck with there pizza....I just recieved a thin sausage pepperoni and bacon....pie had no sauce on it...crust was soft and soggy..and cherry was the whole pie had burnt bacon on it which made whole pie taste burnt. Time before this i receive a pizza that the delivery guy dropped on my drive way..Guy tells me they will call you and eat this and you have a pizza coming...never got that call...but tried ya again... i will not try this place again...40 bucks for nothing.. read more

There is a lot of good pizza in Kenosha, but this is my new favorite. The pizza is FANTASTIC, the crust and sauce are superb and the pizza is really nice looking with the braided crust. But what really sets this place apart is the service. Unlike the other pizza places in town, they are friendly and prompt and actually seem to appreciate your business. I love this place! read more
