Celiac Foodie: Visiting Chicago this week! My first visit was to Stone Creek Grill. After a long day of traveling, found this place that offered GF items. I must admit, i skimmed the menu for Gluten Free- saw Pizza Crust, and ordered. The pizza had a 10" crust, delicious fresh toppings and thin crust. Great flavor. The 1/2 lb cheeseburger with toppings was ok. Nothing special. Basic bar burger with waffle Fries that needed some more seasoning. A glass of beer $10 A margarita $12 A pizza and a burger, the bill was over $52. The ambience has TVs and a log cabin feel. The decor is fun to look at. Service was good. We were visiting from out of state over the 4th of July and picked up a to-go order from Stone Creek Grill around 5:30pm. The food wasn't quite ready when we arrived, but it was only about a 10-minute wait....nothing major. Staff was friendly, and the atmosphere made a strong first impression. Walking up to the doors, it felt like I was entering a cozy cabin back home....somewhere in northern Minnesota -- rustic, relaxed, and very welcoming. It was a warmer day, so we stuck to lighter fare and ordered a variety of sandwiches, plus a pizza. I had the turkey club, which was really good and came with a generous portion -- easily enough for two meals. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food, and it traveled well back to where we were staying. Went here to get dinner. First, the wait staff were extremely too busy to help us with the menu and the specials. My friend orders the turkey club. Which they could tell the turkey was too much salt and tasted like its been in refrigerator for a long time. I ordered SW Egg Rolls, grilled chicken breast, and rice pilaf. 20 minutes passed and no appetizers. Wait staff came back and said oh we dont have SW Egg Rolls. I said ok we will take potatoe skins. Another 15 minutes passed and wait staff came back we have no rice. At this point we got so fed up with wait staff, communication, and taste of the food. Even after we left no one said is everything ok!!! Nope, everyone was talking to other guests about who was drinking what at the bar. Never will go back. Waste of my money for garbage. read more

This place is great. Not the cheapest spot in existence, but the good food, rustic atmosphere, and friendly service that makes me feel like a local keeps me coming back. Stopped in for a lunch date with my wife. Enjoyed the Northwoods decor and fab service from Gina, a 20 year-seasoned employee with the best demeanor! So we were ravenous after skipping breakfast, so we went all in--the appetizer, deep fried portabellas (so crispy and fresh) served with house ranch dressing. Superb! We ordered a Baked Cod Po'boy and a Reuben sandwich. Both were outstanding. The Reuben was a great value ($12.99) Lean cut corned beef, smothered with sauerkraut with cool dressing on a Dark Bread. The cod sandwich was just what I needed...something healthy. With a plain baked potato, it made my day. The Cole slaw was good for a side, too. Their pizza looked incredible, but not on my menu for today. We talked with the owner, Tim Kaiser, and enjoyed his anecdotes about the restaurant business. If you're craving a Point Beer or a Leinies, they have a fully stocked bar with sportingevents on. Today is my birthday and I wanted to go out of our normal eating places. I reviewed the menu online and was excited that they have a menu with items for everyone. Our server was friendly and I hate that I didn't get her name but she was Johnny on the Spot when we needed her. We had the cream of broccoli soup, which I can recommend and the house salad was typical. Each person in our party ordered something different so this should be helpful. My husband ordered the ribs. He loved them. They were tender and the sauce was good. My grandson order the rib/chicken combo and agreed, the sauce was good. My granddaughter ordered the lasagna. She didn't care for the sauce, she said it was too sweet. Red sauce is really a taste for the beholder and she said there was sausage in it that didn't taste right. I cannot confirm. Again, tastebuds. Now, on to me, the birthday girl. I ordered steak and shrimp. The menu said ribeye steak, which I ordered rare and breaded shrimp. I also ordered a Lemon Long Island. Since I very rarely drink I thought I would get a little tipsy, but I just had an overpriced lemonade. When my meal arrived (I wish I had taken a picture) I received a rare steak and three shrimp. Now, the steak was approximately 1/2" thick or less. It was "rare" and it was the driest rare steak I have ever had. That steak was so bad I had to saw into it and I don't think I swallowed any of the meat because it was so tough. Thank goodness I have two dogs who were so happy that I brought them home food. Went today for a late lunch. We waited a good 15 minutes before bartender/ server Shana waited on us. Only 2 other people in bar. Didn't get all our food, had to ask for completed order. Had to interrupt her because all she did was talk to the other two customers. When food finally came, it was bad. Taco salad had a small handful of lettuce and a scoop of taco meat. Nothing else. Fish tacos consisted three over fried greasy tortillas and a few pieces of fish and a small spattering of lettuce, nothing else except for what we had to upgrade with guacamole, salsa and dressing. All were gross... we also waited 35 minutes for our food...again a salad and a couple of tacos. We didn't eat half of it. Server asked if things were ok, we said no, no taste to anything. Her response...."hmmmm". She continued to ignore us and have conversations with customers I can only think regulars that were trickling in Bad food, bad service. Over priced crap. A lodgy themed quaint place that we visited twice during the few nights we stayed in the area. Would be a good place for a family as it has quite a varied menu. And prices were very reasonable for what you get. Portion sizes were really large - like very large! This is a great comfort food place to go. One night we had pizza, which I thought was very good. Another night we had ham potato soup, which was as good as my own. I had fried perch, which was very lightly breaded and crispy - just how I prefer it. Steak tips were huge and tender. I'm sure Stone Creek Grill does not care about these reviews, but i will voice my opinion anyway. My husband and I arrived at Stone Creek Grill about 3:30 pm Oct 24. It had been a long day for me as I was at work starting at 3:30 am, so it had been more than 24 hrs since I had anything to eat. I was excited to find this place and finally sit down to visit with my husband and have dinner with him. Having dinner with my husband is one of my favorite activities and I look forward to spending dinner time with him. When the waitress finally came to the table, she was not very friendly and had the attitude she was bothered by waiting on us. Since it had been sometime since I saw my husband, we had alot to talk about. We finished our dinner and I continued to sip my wine. Then the crowd started coming in and another waitress came to the table and said if we didn't need anything else, they had a 30 min waiting list. Her comment made us feel intimidated and guilty for being an inconvenience to her. I felt we were being told to leave and our business was no longer appreciated. So, I left my unfinished glass of wine on the table and we left. I understand she has a job to do, but there is right way and a wrong way to do a job. Her comment was totally rude, unprofessional, and unacceptable. You don't push out paying customers to make room for new ones. If the business cannot support the growing number of customers, then they need to make plans to expand the business to provide adequate space to accommodate the waiting list. The downside is I was looking forward to a nice dinner with my husband and we left the restaurant disappointed with the customer service, the waitress, and with the feeling our patronage was not appreciated. Customer service needs to be given with a smile and ALL customers need to know their business is appreciated so they want to come back again! Something to think about. read more

Place has great atmosphere, set like a northern Wisconsin cabin. Food is good, menu has a variety. But the consistency of quality apparently depends on who's in the kitchen. Service one would expect to be like an old Wisconsin supper club but not really. There's a couple of wait staff that are friendly but overall none of the servers touch a dirty plate. So your table sits full until you leave. We came one time and tables were full of guests or dirty dishes and a single bus boy with hostess and servers standing around watching. Good and convenient location, but nothing else. I've now tried this place a handful of times, lunches and dinners and there's nothing to it. The food is bland, old, tastes like it and everything is out of proportion or plain salty. I've had fish that tasted like it was boiled in water and put on a plate. A salad with more greens and onions once can imagine or eat. Not enough protein, toppings or dressing. What they call fish tacos is one of the absolute worst things i've tried. They are made of tortilla and fried fish, nothing else. No mayo, no slaw, no flavor. Let's not forget the side of dry black beans from a can, and a container of pico that has sat in the refrigerator so long it's gone bad and taste sour. The service depends on who you get. Some servers are very pleasant and great. Others look upset, sound bothered when you ask for anything and forget to get your drinks. If you even get to ask for anything except for the check. Stopped in last night for the Smoked Brisket Sandwich and was not disappointed At all. It had a great smoked flavor and it was stacked high. I wish I can give this place a 0. We were hanging out at Winthrop harbor and there are not a lot of nearby food options. We chose Stone Creek as a non fast food last resort. Ordered 3 kids meals for the kids and a salad to share. While ordering the food, I should have just hung up the phone as the gentleman taking my order was coughing and gagging. During pickup, my husband said the women there was rude and extremely unfriendly. They did not have any to go utensils for a TO GO order! What did you expect me to use to eat my taco salad?! Food was absolutely unappetizing and burger was hard and cold. All the food looked like it was reheated and sat for awhile. So happy to never order from this place again. This place really seems to embody the cabin vibes found throughout Lake County. The rustic decor is absolutely beautiful! Our table was literally under a wooden canoe. I cannot say enough about the cozy atmosphere! The mozzarella sticks my guest and I ordered as an appetizer were phenomenal! We order those everywhere and these truly stood out in quality. I ordered a veggie baked potato for my entree, which I was glad to find was actually presented like an entree and looked appetizing. It tasted a little bland and the veggies could've been a little more cooked, but I would still recommend this dish to vegetarians who plan to visit. Our server was friendly and attentive and the food came out in a very reasonable time. The parking lot is big, but fills fast! This place seems to be popular and I understand why. Great food and entertainment on a Friday night. It was very crowded but we didn't have to wait long for seating. They had live music which was really good. We really enjoy this place. We are from Chicago and we have been boating at the North Point Marina for a few seasons. This place has consistently good service and food. We struggle to find good food near our marina and we've found this place to be one of the best options! We highly recommend the pork chop as well as the cheese curd appetizer! Had a work holiday party here, and the owner Tim was so disrespectful when we were sorting out the bill. We called ahead earlier in the week to confirm the number of people coming. We specifically said 20 were coming: 10 are ordering on their own, 10 are getting the pizza, salad and drink option. We get the bill and we got charged for 20 people of the pizza, salad and drink option. When trying to speak to Tim about it, he claimed that we were being charged for 20 and there was no if, ands or buts about it. My wife and are come here all the time because of the service and food. The fresh bread is great, I would buy loaves of it if I could! The ribs, honey dipped chicken, steaks and pizza are favorites of ours, but we haven't had anything that disappoints!
