Our burger club always ventures a little further out during Thanksgiving and the summer when our schedules are a little lighter, so in 2025, we ventured out to Kenosha for The Garage. It was a weeknight, but the street we were driving up to get here was a little dark and run down. But don't let that deter you. They have a nice sized parking lot for their location. Then we walked inside and found a narrow room with a bar running the length of one long wall and counter height tables and chairs perpendicular to the opposite wall. They really jammed in as much as they could in the space that they have. The ambience was dark and moody. They were playing hard rock and the bar had a couple of regulars sitting inside. At the end of the bar at the far end, was a cubicle of a kitchen. That's where the magic happens. Their menu is simple: appetizers, burgers, and build your own burgers. That's it. We all built our own burgers and they have a LOT of options. However, the build your own may start at $9, but each topping adds to the cost. But who cares? The burgers were phenomenal! Their website clearly states, "Best burgers, ever." And they're not wrong. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and delicious. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. And everything is made in this tiny area at the end of the bar. We were the only people in the place after about 20 minutes, but again, who cares. The staff were extremely friendly. Their playful banter and bickering when they cleaned up was hilarious to listen to, and they were lovely to talk to as well. One of our group wanted to pick up some Spotted Cow beer (you can't get it in Illinois) and asked about a place to get it nearby. They suggested Shenanigan's with a drive-through just a couple blocks away. We have to make another trek back. They are awesome and their burgers are great, too! read more

10/10 for service, food and BEAR! We were in the area for nephew's boot camp graduation. Decided to drive around and found this amazing place on Yelp. We were immediately greeted by the nicest man, Bear! He welcomed us and went over the ordering process and their special. I ordered the boring chicken tenders but my brother ordered The Hog Burger. Wow! They weren't playing about that creation. Big, juicy, with chicharrones spilling out of the sides. My brother never looked happier. But honestly, besides the delicious food, stop by and say hi to Bear. He made a regular lunch an adventure. Great conversations, easy going and just a great guy! read more

I love a bar with a theme and this place fit the bill! The burger is amazing-and the size of my face, so it was the perfect size to split, but you'll want an appetizer too! I had an excellent lunch at the garage! Our server Melissa was outstanding, so friendly and took the time to explain the menu clearly. We ordered the pretzel as an app and split a burger. Stopped in with my mother to try something new. The place is a little darker, but nice for a meal. There is a full bar, but we did not order a drink. We ordered chicken strips, a hamburger with fries and a pork sandwich with fries and coleslaw. We got our meals, but no coleslaw. It's ok we enjoyed our food. The serving size was enough to have some left over to bring home. Our server Brianna was attentive and kind. Knowledgeable and happy to offer up her favorites and best seller. read more

When we arrived the place was empty. We ordered our food and waited. First out was the Pretzel Basket with cheese. These were served hot and were delicious. Then the meals a burger no filling with fries and a pork sandwich with lettuce, tomato, raw onions side of fries and coleslaw. The place is a little dimmer which is nice for relaxing when eating. Our server was nice, food was hot and tasty, but it's kind of a turn off when employees are on their phones a bit too often. read more

It is such a cool place. The staff were so awesome. I loved that you could actually order yourself exactly the kind of burger you want. It was a little shock that you are charged for almost every item you want to put on your burger but it was not outrageous. The fries were awesome. Next time I will definitely do the Parmesan fries. Great dive! A buddy who used to live nearby suggested we stop here for lunch and we were very glad we did. No one there at noon in a semi sketchy neighborhood had us questioning our choice until the food came. The burger was $8 and yes, most toppings were an extra buck or two but it included some of the best fries and tater tots that've ever been fried up! Chatting with the bartender we learned it was the cooks third day there but I'd say they hit the jackpot with him. My Miller was three bucks and including a generous tip we left paying under $30 for two - less than Shake Shack, 5 Guys or most chain fast food places. I just hope they get busy in the evening so they can stay in business! read more

Ample parking, easy to get to, and just fun. Amazing bartenders! Amazing music selection! A fun wheel spin for prize drinks! We started with a sample platter because we wanted to try everything. The Mac n cheese bites with the zesty ranch sauces were so delicious! The mozzarella sticks, crispy shell, and perfect cheese melt inside. Deep fried pickle fan!? Perfect texture and taste! No mush! I went to try the burger of the week. After requesting no jalapeño ranch on top, I was told that any changes made disqualifies me from getting the burger of the week entirely and I had to get a different burger. An absurd rule that not only disallows reasonable accommodations but also disregards any potential allergy concerns. Btw their online ordering allows you to add anything to the burger of the week. So glad to know I could have added peanut butter and an egg, but asking for no ranch is strictly forbidden. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday based on some reviews and photos we saw on Yelp. Cool little place right on a corner of a busy street. Staff was very friendly. We ordered some drinks, poutine and stuffed burgers. I really loved the poutine, the gravy is what made super delicious. The stuffed burgers were good, however it was disappointing that the stuff inside was not hot and melty. I've had an original juicy Lucy in Minnesota and what made it amazing was the hot molten cheese that oozed out of the middle. These burgers would be amazing if the insides were melty delicious. Although the menu states the burgers are cooked medium, I feel that a stuffed burger needs to be cooked longer to melt the stuff on the inside. Overall experience was pleasant. read more

After shopping at Premium Outlets, the choices were - have lunch at Culver's (down the street and not bad), eat at Gurnee Mills (they closed my favorite Mexican restaurant there) or drive back and eat someplace close to home. Or, should we try something different, something new? On Yelp, the Garage has a respectable rating and reviews for burgers and it was just 4.3 miles away on zero traffic roads - yes why not!!! Located on a corner and with plenty of parking, it was a breeze to get in. We were given a friendly greeting (I had my Chicago Bears hat on) and we realized that it was 1) Cash only and 2) you check off a list to order your burger. Plenty of seating and at least 3 flat screens to watch a few games. As for the food, the Plow burger had pulled pork, an over-easy egg, raw onion and a nice sized patty - I devoured it!!! The coleslaw was more tart than sweet, I like KFC coleslaw. The burger of the day came with cheese curds and a brat sausage on top - that was really good too. The sweet potato fries were a dollar extra. A little pricey but the ambiance, decor and scrumptious burgers - all made it an awesome visit. We'll be back for more, after enduring our Premium Outlets shopping. read more

First time here. I had a burger with grilled onions. My husband had pulled pork. Both were really good and seasoned well. We will be back.

You cannot get much better than this place, even cooking at home. This was my first time here as one of my great nieces wanted to go here and I was pleasantly surprised about "The Garage". I had the stuffing of jalapeno peppers and pepper jack cheese and they made it rare the way burgers should always be served. Needless to say I will be going back again to try some other combinations.
