Incredibly disappointed. I have been a loyal customer for years. They always treated me well until now. They changed to a new payment system that charges the customer a %3 processing fee on every purchase. That comes out to be a lot when your bill is a few thousand dollars. The only alternative they offer to avoid the fee is Zelle, which doesn't allow money transfers over $500. So, now I am stuck paying an additional $100+ that wasn't mentioned to me from the start and wasn't included in my estimate. Pretty unfair in my opinion. I was going to be a lifetime customer, but not disclosing hidden fees until the very end will force me to take my business elsewhere. read more

Terrible Experience - Unethical Charges and Unnecessary Service I recently moved to the area and needed to register my car, so I was referred to Chimney Auto by the DMV for a simple inspection. I made an appointment, and while the manager Juan was friendly at first, my experience quickly turned sour. During the inspection, I was told my car failed because of an "air leak," and the manager recommended a diagnostic to figure out the source of the problem. I was hesitant but agreed since I needed the inspection to register my car. The manager also pointed out that my check engine light was on, but I specifically told him it was not on when I arrived. When he asked if I had any concerns, I mentioned we'd just added oil the day before, but I had no other issues. I received a call later saying the car was ready, and they told me the problem was simply that the oil cap wasn't screwed on properly, causing the air leak. I thought it was a minor mistake and assumed I wouldn't be charged much, especially since I had told them the check engine light wasn't on when I arrived. But when I spoke with the manager, he refused to waive the charge, stating they had performed a full service and would charge me in full. Here's where it gets really frustrating: The manager told me they drove my car 18 miles. This made no sense to me because I know that a loose oil cap would trigger the check engine light temporarily, and simply tightening it would reset the light. Instead, they chose to drive my car for miles, which seemed like a deliberate attempt to make the light go off before charging me. The manager acted as if driving my car 18 miles was such a huge favor, but to me, it felt like a scam and to justify on charging me. I went in expecting to pay a small fee for a basic inspection ($25.50), but I ended up with a $175 charge for something that should've been a simple fix. I feel completely taken advantage of, and I won't be coming back. Extremely disappointed of my first experience of a car service in Houston.I would not recommend this place to anyone. I will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau for unethical practices. read more

Went in for a state inspection. 30 min later they came with a list of services that needed to be performed on the car. The one that needed to be done to pass the inspection was to replace the license plate lights, otherwise it would be a failed inspection. I asked how much and was appalled with the cost: $96 dollars to change the license place light bulbs. I should've left and gone somewhere else but unfortunately I didn't have time since I had to go back to work and didn't want to waste more time. I ended up wasting a lot of money authorizing them to change it. 10 minutes later the car passed the inspection. The bulbs were $8.50 and they charged me $85 dollars to change them (had to pay a total of $107.30 to change the bulbs) and later I found out that he average cost for license plate light replacement is about $52, with $6 for parts and $46 for labor costs. I paid almost twice as much as the average cost. Not going back to this place again. $85 labor cost for 10 minutes. Imagine what they charge for an hour of labor costs on something else that's more challenging than changing a light bulb. read more

I've been to Chimney Rock Car Care multiple times now. Once for an oil change and another to get the plastic housing under the front of my car replaced. They can pretty much do everything for your car here. The lobby is well decorated with two TVs playing the news and another show. They offer free coffee and water to all customers which is really nice of them. The oil change was pretty straight forward. Had a coupon for $10 off that included a free tire rotation. Was a pretty sweet deal. I was in and out in 40 minutes. Replacing the plastic housing was a little bit more difficult. They first had to take a look under the car to see what all needed to be replaced and then call around to find prices for the parts that were needed which took 2 hours. I was waiting in the lobby the whole time and I still had to come back once they got the part. Overall this is a good location, there are a bunch of really cool people here. Things can be slow here and there but they do a great job. read more

Want to preface this by saying I'd never thought I would need to make a yelp account but today that changes. I called in yesterday to avoid waiting while they had to get the tires shipped over from their warehouse. The guy told me I could come in at 12 today. Went in today to get three new tires to match the one I had to replace a month ago from a flat. Of course they don't have the tires yet but I'll wait it out. Then they bring to my attention that the wheel lock key threads are missing and they will have to break the old wheel locks and get a new set from the dealer. Now this is interesting because the wheel lock key that they claimed would no longer work was the same one that they used a month prior to replace my flat. Since then it has sat in factory new plastic container next to my spare only to be pulled out today. Then it clicked that on my last visit they "misplaced" my wheel lock key and that they were going to have to get a new set another day. They called me that night and said that they had somehow "found" my wheel lock key so when I went there in the morning to pick it up and the guy put it on the wheel locks to make sure it fit so I was fine with it and drove off. So after being there from 11:45am-3:15pm (to change 3 tires and flush brake fluid and maybe the mechanics took a nap or two) I pay, get an emailed receipt (big mistake), and head home. After I got home and looked at the invoice and noticed that I paid basically 120 dollars to just fix their mistake. I call back to see if something was wrong on the invoice and am put on hold for like 10 minutes just to have the guy say there's nothing he can do for me. So I have to pay 50 bucks for a new wheel lock set and 60 dollars labor to remove the old set for something that they completely did on their own. Amazing to me that they can get away with something so idiotic. So all in all can not recommend the place. Two visits and they drop the ball both times. It's a shame because the people there seem nice, but I'll be taking my car care business to someone else from now on. read more

I had the worst experience regarding my inspection. My car failed the inspection because of a minor, missing part. I was told the repair would cost $296.00 which seemed odd and overpriced. I immediately found another inspection service/shop just a few blocks away. I showed the mechanic the inspection report and he laughed knowing they were charging too much money. The gentleman fixed the problem for $45.00! He also replaced my windshield wipers, front and rear, for $20.00. Chimney Rock wanted $65.00. I then returned to Chimney Rock where they changed my inspection from fail to pass. The tried to cheat me out of $280.00 and wasted several hours of my time. I had the most dreadful experience at this place before I started yelping and I think there's now new ownership (thank goodness for current customers). However, my experience was so traumatic that I must share. I brought in my car to have some minimal work done. Somehow they managed to drop some equipment on it and destroy the front part of the body. Instead of consulting with me, they sent it off to some body shop in Westbury that did a disastrous job. I only take my car to Mercedes Benz certified locations for body work, so this little "favor" only served to devalue my poor car. When I went to pick it up, they didn't even discount the repairs. I asked the odd mechanic on duty to call the owner who I'd been dealing with. He became volatile and abusive. As a young, blonde woman alone in the shop with this very disturbed individual, I was scared. It was like something out of a horror movie where you're expecting to be killed. To get my car and get away from there, I paid the whole amount (which was insane) and tried to leave as this psycho was yelling at me that they will own my car if I try to contest the charge!?! It was beyond frightening and, frankly, I should have just called the police. I filed a report with the BBB. I still feel traumatized when I drive by this place. Hopefully the new ownership is doing a much better job for customers. read more

I have been here a few times cause it is so close to me, but they will not treat you that great or take care of you. We had a dead battery and they would NOT take off the battery test charge when we had them replace it. They also charge you for 'shop supplies' which almost no where else charges you for .. this is just another way to edge up your charge. The folks working the counter are nice and all, but they say it's "ownership rules". If you are fine paying more (like $200 for a battery replacement), then go for it! If you have non shop work (like an inspection) then it's fine but they will not help you out at all. read more

NOT a good experience! I am new to the area and needed to get an inspection done to register my car in Texas. I found this place through a quick Google search and they seemed to have good ratings. Once my car was in the garage, I was told that numerous issues caused my car to fail inspection- which I thought was weird because I had recently passed inspection in my former state and my car is relatively new. The prices given to "fix" these issues were outrageous. I declined and took my vehicle. My license plate light had been unplugged and the wiring thrown into the bumper. Once located and reconnected, they worked fine. I was told I needed a new Power Steering system due to a large leak- not true. I ended up having the repairs done at a reputable location that was recommended to me- total cost: $10. The only thing that had to be fixed was a left brake light replacement. I feel I was being toyed with because the guy knew I was new and assumed I would have no choice but to hand over $300 dollars for bogus repairs. I would not recommend this shop. read more

Even though I had been told to go to Discount Tire by my car manufacturer's service center and my car club mates, I thought, "What the hell, Goodyear should be able to replace my TPMS sensors for a reasonable price". I was wrong. After I gave an accurate and succinct description of the problem, Billy said, "So, you want your wheels balanced?" Saaayyyy whaaatttt???? A that moment an old Foghorn Leghorn line came back to me...'Ya got a hole in your glove. I keep pitchin' 'em and you keep missin' 'em'. I do give them credit because the mechanic did accurately and honestly assess the problem. He explained exactly which parts were defective and why it made sense to replace all four sensors. But, the estimate for the repair was all 'Galleria'... $700 for aftermarket parts....$1,200 for OEM. And, upselling?... 50% of the overall $2,000 estimate was upselling stuff that they never looked at or asked about. I have never seen anything like it... And, I have worked in the automotive repair business. 'Garrett T.' can spin all he wants, but it's obvious that's where they see the big money from the Big Fish. Meanwhile, Discount Tire installed the sensors for $259.. including diagnosis, parts, labor, calibration and tax. read more

I'm a 27 year old female and up until I started going to Chimney Rock Car Care about two years ago I called my dad every time I took my car in to the shop. Since I don't know much about cars - I consistently felt like I was being taken advantage of by different mechanics around town. That all changed when I switched to Chimney Rock Car Care. They're not out to take advantage of you. They provide good, reasonably priced service and are very transparent about their diagnosis. They don't up sell and they don't tell me I need things that I don't. The only downside is that my dad doesn't get to interrogate mechanics every three months for me anymore! read more

He is an honest worker and has serviced my BMW since I moved to Houston 2 years ago. His rates have always been incredibly fair. Garrett is also great at estimating service time required, and does everything he can to meet his timeline. Did I mention that he is also very skilled? His diagnostic skills are especially great. Slow. Slow. Slow. 3.5 hours for replacing 2 tires and a truck alignment.... And there was only two other vehicles being worked on. I have worked in a tire shop for a few years, so I know what decent service is. My truck has been sitting on the alignment rack for an hour and a half now, and no one is even by it. It seems management has employees start on a vehicle, get half way done and move to a different vehicle. The man at the front desks mumbles so bad you can't understand a word he says. This place has the potential to be a great care care facility, but today service was piss poor. I do not recommend anyone coming here if you have anything you want to do that day. read more

Stopped by to get my car inspected and found out my Lexus I bought from Westside Lexus tinted my windows too dark and wasn't street legal. After it got resolved they finished out the inspection without additional charges. Nice experience and has a small town feel inside and how they work vs most typical large city car shops. read more

Had a great experience here. Got my car inspected and it failed but they told me what I needed to fix and were straight up about the price of the fix (was the same at other places i checked too). At first we werent too sure how this place was gonna be but, it worked out pretty well. We went in for a state inspection, and basically just dropped off the car, went and had lunch and it was ready by the time we came back. Less an 45 min.
