This place is one of the better kept secrets in Baltimore. It is tucked away so unless you know where it is you may not find it. This spot already had excellent reviews that attracted me to it in the first place plus I was in the hair shop and it was close by. The pictures don't do the food justice. I got the paella salad (trying to duck the carbs from the rice) and it was excellent. As you can see in the pics, because I got it to go, it was served separate from the salad so it wouldn't be wilted without me even requesting that it be. I thought that was kind and considerate. The flavors and ingredients included in the paella are amazing. The aroma caught me first and in every bite, I could taste the herbs and spices used to make this dish. It was the perfect amount of each meat, vegetable, and pepper included. I have no complaints and definitely recommend trying. I loved it so much I never even pulled out the salad lol. We took my son to dinner at Salsa Grill on Friday for his 28th birthday. We've been dining here for 20 plus years. We ordered cream of crab soup (delightfully decadent) and a tapas sampler for starters. Our meals were paella (love the homemade jalapeño sausage), pork loin, and empanadas. The lunch atmosphere was rather crowded yet inviting. We talked and enjoyed our meal. I chose to get the Papa Rellena (sp?) while my friend chose the Paella. The portions were very plentiful. The food was amazing!!! I love their cream of crab soup (jumbo lump) but opted not to get it this time. I also never knew they served half and half as a drink option. I can't believe that Yelp took down my review that I wrote a week ago. I don't know they might think I was from this restaurant and wanted to advertise. (I'm really wondering if I made them think that way cuz I uploaded too many food pictures from Salsa Grill.) I feel kind of bad by the fact that I was suspected. I'm a school teacher. Why I would lie? Yes, I have been to this restaurant for almost two years. I became a regular customer in Salsa Grill because I certainly like food there. Came here recently for a work lunch and had a good time. The service was quick, the staff was friendly, and the portions were ginormous! We were a group of 6 and they accommodated us with little notice. My only gripe is that there aren't many diet friendly vegetarian options, I went with the vegetarian platter minus the rice. The dish was ok, initially I had tried to have them substitute beans for the protein in one of the salads but they don't serve beans! They were also fairly reluctant to make other substitutions hence how I ended up with the platter. I recently had the opportunity to meet Jay at Salsa Grill and head into the kitchen to see how they prepare the food as well as sample some of their dishes. The first thing I noticed was that they do not cut corners. I've worked in several restaurants and almost all cheat in some way with regards to food preparation, such as preparing massive quantities ahead of time for use during the entire day or using premade desserts or sides that just get a slight garnish. Not at Salsa Grill. EVERYTHING is made from scratch and Jay is very passionate about preparing food and serving it at it's peak freshness. Of the foods I was able to try, the arroz con pollo was quite good, though a bit different than the dish my Colombian grandmother and great aunt make. The caesar salad was the best I've ever had and Jay talked extensively about it's preparation. Dressing and croutons are all made in house. The chocolate roll cake was quite good as well, though I not a big fan of sweets. I didn't get to try one but I was told that the crabcakes are exceptional, as seems to be supported by the previous reviewer. The name is slightly misleading. When I went there for the first time I was expecting a generic tex-mex restaurant but it's actually an american twist on traditional Peruvian dishes. I met their "number one Peruvian customer" while I was there and he spoke very highly of its authenticity. I highly recommend this easily overlooked strip mall gem. read more

I placed a call in order for the Pupusas. I was told that they had to placed with two and not a single order of just one. They are pretty large and taste great. The one thing I don't really agree with is the $8.49 charge for two pupusas with a pinch of onions and a smaller pinch of lettuce. Usually pupusas come with seasoned cabbage. Better to come a bit later and enjoy a sit down meal of some really good peruvian fares. The service is fast and expedient. It can get somewhat hectic during the lunch rush though. The portions are very generous, usually big enough for dinner entrees rather than lunch. The caesar salad with grilled chicken is a good staple fare if you're not inclined to try some of the peruvian offerings. Personally, I love the empinada de carne here. It's big, stuffed full of meats and egg and spices. The escabeche de mariscos is very flavorful. The fish is nicely prepared with good mix of steamed veggies and shrimp on a bed of paella. The seco de cabrito is wonderfully gamey but not overpowering. In my opinion, the best dish here is the soft crab saltado. I get it regularly. It's a wonderful fusion of baltimore's soft shelled crab with peruvian paella. Jay, the owner and cook likes to wander around and talk to the patrons. He grows his own ahi hot peppers. What a fantastic evening we had at the Salsa Grill. Jay, the owner, and his staff warmly welcomed us. We were a party of 12. They graciously started us off with several Tortilla baskets with Salsa - fresh, crisp tortilla with a delicious salsa. Carlo, our main server, and his staff were amazing - they managed to keep all of our dinner orders straight. We enjoyed the following: Cream of Crab soup (beyond decadent - expensive but worth it), Carne Asada, Chicken Curry Wrap, Chicken Caesar Wrap, Grilled Salmon, Gulf Fried Shrimp Platter, 3 Paellas, Beef and Vegetable Empanadas, Roasted Chicken, Chicken Parmesan pasta, and Escabeche de Corvina. We really had an around the world tasting of foods. Everyone was thrilled and raved about their dinners. What was really nice was that the restaurant was quiet, and we could carry on conversations.
