Wow! This place sure was a surprise, always driven by it but never stopped by to try it. Today that changed, I didn't feel like driving out to Crystal Lake for GYG (IYKYK), so I figured let's try the new kid on my block. Salsa Verde is well maintained, staffed with SUPER friendly people, and churning out some amazingly delicious and authentic dishes. I've never been to a place with a drive thru that had Quesa Birrias, or Cochinita Pibil, yet somehow this place has both, and they're fantastic! The horchata was decent, but not the best, and the prices are a smidge on the high side for some of the items, though most of the portions are generous, Overall, had a great experience, glad I got to try it, and I would come back. read more

I popped in here on taco Tuesday and found select tacos were half off. I had the vegan chorizo, ground beef, grilled chicken, and chicken tinga. The food took a few minutes to prepare and they were all dressed with onions and cilantro with a few limes on the side. For ground beef, I found it to be a little bland and the grilled chicken tasted a little off to me. Surprisingly the vegan chorizo had the most flavor with the chicken tinga coming in a close second. Definitely not the best but not bad for tacos. read more

It is good, I'd go again, but I don't know man. For a chain that looks and feels extremely fast foody, both inside and out, I sometimes second guess the value of Salsa Verde. Not saying it is bad, in fact, it is very fresh and delicious. A business has to answer the following question in order to justify the price: What does it bring to the table that others do not? It's the same menu that 50 nearby Mexican restaurant have. 4 tacos, a torta, a quesadilla, and a bowl = $58 plus drive thru gratuity, almost $70. On a positive note, I can say the food is fresh and their proteins are grilled on an actuall grill, and not a flat top. The price of tiny little street tacos nowadays is just a crime though, it doesn't make them so "street" anymore. Unfortunately, every place is doing it now. I'd say there can be a time and place for for Salsa Verde. I can imagine their catering is likely great. Also, I think it would be excellent for lunch breakers. Drive up, get a filling $12 bowl, burrito, or torta, and be generously stuffed. Their quesadilla is filled to the max with meat. You COULD sit down at other bar and grill Mexican restaurants, pay the same price, and at least ambience too, the choice is yours. read more

What a cool place! Who knew that they could transform an old Burger King into such a beautiful, clean, modern, and inviting space? It honestly feels like they could make it a sit down restaurant at some point, but I digress. Come for the food. You will not find a higher quality taco in the area for the $4/$5 price point ($2 on Tuesdays!), nor will you find another frozen margarita for $4. The food was outstanding. The wonderful gentleman I spoke with mentioned his favorite was the tropical shrimp taco and it was sincerely my favorite. All were good! My husband had the torta Cubano and he loved it, too. Food was delivered to our tables after ordering from the counter. They also have a drive thru if that is more convenient. The place was hopping for good reason. We will be back! I've been to the St Charles location and was excited to see that they opened a new location closer to my home. My husband and I stopped in for a quick dinner. We got chips and guac to start, which was yummy. I ordered a fish taco and a shrimp taco. Both were good but I enjoyed the shrimp taco more. My husband got a burrito and it was massive! We got like margaritas on the rocks. They were pretty awful so next time we will pass on the margs. The restaurant is very clean and I think it's only been open for a few months. You order at the counter and then if you choose to dine in they will bring you your food and clear it as well. Great service and everyone was super friendly. I even managed to walk out without my purse. We realized it about 2 min after leaving. It was already behind the counter when we returned and everything was still in it. read more

Food is so good! Service is friendly! My only complaint is the dining room is freezing every time we go for lunch or dinner.

We've visited a few times now -- dine in and via drive-thru. Each time, we've never been disappointed. Food is flavorful and made with care. Prices are comparable to traditional, sit-down restaurants in the area with the convenience of being able to pickup food via drive-thru. I am usually not a person who orders and enjoys tortas, but there is something about Salsa Verde's tortas! The bread is sooooo good. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a change up from Chipotle but don't want to commit to sitting down for a full dine-in experience. The building was redone (former Burger King) and new restaurant was fresh looking and clean. The employees were friendly and welcoming upon arrival. I know I am in the minority on the food reviews . I had the California burrito and my wife the California bowl with two tamales. The tamales were very good and tasty compared to other tamales we had at other restaurants and the Tucson AZ area. However the burrito and bowl were a different story. Both entrees had basically the same ingredients in each minus the flour tortilla. Maybe we're old school Mexican dining, but putting French fries in the burrito and bowl did not improve the taste or texture. Portion sizes were good, I cut my burrito in half starting with the center which usually contains all the ingredients. I can say for me there was no taste or seasoning. I added the red sauce thinking this would improve the taste, nothing. I ate basically a quarter of the burrito and disposed the rest. My wife's bowl had so many fries and rice in bowl-she too threw hers out too. Again she said tasteless. We're not trying to be mean here, but I don't think we will return. Maybe we just choose the wrong entree, but still question the fries in Mexican food. read more

Went to Cville location for the 1st time. Ordered a steak torta. If you want all bread, little chewy meat go here. I paid $12 but not worth it. The heating system was not working so it was like we were eating outside, left my coat on. Could've been better. For a trendy new taco place, it's vastly better than Guzman y Gomez. That's not saying much though. Whereas Guzman y Gomez has zero flavor, tiny portions, and high prices, this place has some flavor, decent portions (except beans and rice) and high prices. If I'm dropping $4 a taco ($5 for a single steak taco !?!?), it better be outstanding. It wasn't. Grilled chicken taco was ok. Lots of chicken included, and it tasted freshly grilled. Ground beef taco was weird. Again, it had overflowing meat portions, but had an odd spice/flavoring that I couldn't pinpoint and don't really want to taste again. The salsas were fresh and tasty. I would skip the $3 combo up-charge for beans and rice. The rice was ok (but really how hard is it to screw up rice?). The beans tasted...weird. Again, just an odd combination of flavors here. They give you a lovely amount of salsa and avocado, and the salsas are super flavorful and spicy complementing the asada fries well .
