She was on call when our son was born so we met her in the hospital, and now again today (a year later) when we needed to speak to the on call doctor about an injury my son just had. From that first interaction to this one, Dr. Miller has made us feel like insufficient, blundering parents. Today my son accidentally got hold of a clothes hanger and cut the inside of his mouth. I obviously already feel like a terrible parent, and the questions she asked, and the way she asked them, were so condensing and judgmental ("does he often play with hangers?") it pushes me into an even deeper feeling of insufficiency and guilt and is entirely unhelpful in trying to assess if my child needs additional care. When trying to describe what happened, she asked for pictures and I asked a clarifying question and she laughed at me and responded in a way that made me feel so stupid for asking. She was like this the day he was born as well, trying to push us into make a fast decision on a very important topic that we learned later we actually had weeks to decide on. As a parent, this is the last person I want to answer the phone when I'm at my most vulnerable, panicking about a situation, and need advice. I would not advise working with Dr. Miller.

And to add: We've seen a few other doctors from East Bay Peds right after our son was born due to the nature of newborn's doc schedules, and everyone has been so nice. She's funny, she's real laid back in the most professional kind of way, she's smart and easy to talk to as a parent. She takes time to answer all our questions, and makes sure to ask us questions. She's far from uptight or reserved and we really like that about her. She's fun! We def are first time parents and have 1000000 & 1 questions every time we see her. Half the time she laughs and tells us we're doing a great job and keep doing it and the other time she elaborates to us what really getting at: what should we be feeding our son? Is there anything we can be doing to make sure he develops the best way possible? Yada yada yada. They're pretty on time. We've never had any problem scheduling an appointment. There's a playground next door. It's a few blocks from Elmwood if we need lunch. They have a 24 hour hot-line with a nurse which I'm not gonna lie: we've called probably about 20x this first year: is his head flat, he has a splinter, why is his butt so red, etc... Overall, we're super happy with East Bay Peds. Dr. Himmelvo is the best GP I have ever seen. Ever…read more I have a chronic illness and have seen many, many doctors in my lifetime. She is the first one who I feel really listens to me and trusts my knowledge of my own body. She asks extremely helpful questions, and explains exactly what she is thinking and why. She is friendly, kind, approachable, observant, and very intelligent. She also seems interested in complimentary approaches and not necessarily just shoving pills down your throat, though she's perfectly willing to prescribe medicine if necessary. I went in last night and she spent 30-45 minutes talking with me and examining me. No kidding. In most offices you're lucky to get 5 minutes with the actual doctor! My husband and I have both been extremely impressed with her level of service and commitment to her patients. We have found our family doctor, for as long as she stays in practice! Also, for those worried about the distance to Point Richmond, we're in Oakland, and it only takes 15 minutes to get there. Very convenient!

It was a complete betrayal on the part of a doctor--for parents who are just trying to help their child, I was stunned. I would highly recommend finding a different doctor if your child is experiencing systemic issues that Dr. Lang may be brushing off. This is a learning opportunity for Dr. Lang and Berkeley Pediatrics to step it up and learn more about treating children with more complex issues. I called the Sutter number listed for this location from my car to let them know what was happening and they told me they'll let the office know and no problem. Sutter has a 15-min late policy which allows them to cancel your appointment if you're late. I walked in 14 minutes into my appointment time. After checking in and waiting to see the doctor, I was told that Dr.Wallace decided to cancel my appointment. I was shocked! I asked to speak to Dr. Wallace, but I was told she needed to leave early that day and was filling out paperwork. I waited to speak to the clinic manager and complained that my appointment should not be cancelled because a doctor wants to leave early on a Friday afternoon and that I was not technically late. She explained that I was late, because the checking in process took about 2-3 minutes. I had a time sensitive medical reason why I needed to see a PCP and waited weeks for that appointment. I was crying uncontrollably in the lobby and requested again to just speak to the doctor briefly, but she refused and did not care. It is a terrible feeling to deal with a medical problem and feel that no one is willing to help you. I cannot imagine that a doctor who treats any of her patients in this careless way can be an effective or empathetic caretaker. Obviously this clinic is pretty bad also from all the 1-star reviews.

We were charged over $500 for simple tests we didn't ask for and didn't need. In another case, we brought in routine camp health forms for my daughter. The front desk wouldn't accept them without an appointment. During the visit, the doctor confirmed the appointment wasn't actually needed for the forms, yet we were still charged based on minor concerns that came up in conversation. The doctor was kind, but unfortunately, the costs were never clearly explained. Both situations felt like "gotcha" billing... Originally this was a two star review, but I just discovered the bill was sent to collections - we've been waiting for Sutter to respond to my letter appealing the charges.
