Service was amazing as always. I forget his name but he's great, we've had him as a server before. The food this time seemed to be just a bit better than usual, which is saying a lot. We sat in their newly renovated area, which was perfectly lit. We had the sugar and spice appetizer, which was phenomenal! Monday was prime rib night, and the herb crust was seasoned well and very tasty. Wife had blackened mahi and jumbo lump crab grits. I ate her leftovers. Wow! I came here during a girls weekend. We were excited to eat here. The menu looked great. The wait staff was disinterested to say the least. We had to keep flagging her down to get drinks. When someone ordered, she would run off before anyone else could put in another order. When she told us about the menu, we were told the chef doesn't substitute except for when there is an allergy. Two of my friends are allergic to garlic. When they told her that and asked to sub out a side that had garlic in it for one that did not, she said to get something else. I had Cesar salad which was awesome. I followed with the seared ahi tuna. The fish was definitely not fresh and was flavorless. We friend ordered the crème brûlée which our neighbor table raved about. The waitress came back and said they were out despite 12 being in the system. My friend got the raspberry crème brûlée after the waitress talked her into it. The whole thing tasted spoiled. We sent that back. The chocolate cake slice was huge and $13?! I ordered the Salmon. It was nothing like the menu described. No taste of horseradish or Romano on the salmon and no taste of garlic in the risotto and there was no arugula or gastric. The asparagus was overcooked. We sent it back twice and wound up having it taken off our bill. All And all food was very under seasoned. Outstanding! I knew the run out of the Osso Buck so we made sure we made a reservation before 7pm. I got the last one. It was fall off the bone perfection. My wife had the Capellini with shrimp also excellent. Big portions. Wine list compact but really good affordable choices. We had the Crack toast appetizer just the right amount to share. Also very good. Server was very attentive without being intrusive. Cocktails were really good bar area small but friendly staff made it cozy while we waited a few minutes for our table. Not worth the money!! Our server Mark was excellent, attentive and thorough with his descriptions of specials and menu items. He even had pictures to show us. However, the manager was a complete snob and spoke to me like I was an idiot. My steak was overcooked and upon mentioning that he insisted I did not know what I was talking about. I have eaten steak before I know what medium rare is. For the price I paid for it the steak should have been prepared properly. Paid a bunch of money for sub par cooking and snotty management. Nothing but wow!!! From the waitstaff to the food it was absolutely amazing! It's off season but the restaurant was packed, table for 4! We ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers to start! Grilled artichokes and cracked toast and still raving about them today, especially the toast it's a MUST! I ordered the shrimp for dinner with potato cake so much and so good. A relatively new, but well needed addition to the area. Island way is one of the few places on Oak Island that measures up to this kind of cuisine. The left side (bar side) is pretty loud, the other side doesn't seem to be as bad, but still maybe not the best place for a first date. That said, the food and service are awesome! The first time I ate here, I just got food to go. The deep fried lobster tails on a stick were phenomenal. We got something kind of similar to a salad or so we thought, but it turned out to be a lot of cheese and a little bit of greens, we may have read the menu wrong. This time we got the seared tuna and the fried seafood sampler. Both were great and pretty large portions for not a ton of money. Great beers and cocktails are worth mentioning as well. I had the side porch tea this time. Bullit rye, peach liquor, and sweet tea for like $10! Give it a shot. This is my new go to when in the area, I'll be back again and again. read more

Mains: 1) spice seared rare tuna. large portion of perfect rare seared tuna. the wasabi and Kyoto drops were perfect to dip the tuna in. and the potato cakes were excellent side. 2) Taylor's slow braised Cheshire pork Osso buco. perfectly cooked fall off the bone Osso buco. the demiglace on top of the dish was perfect to blend with the mashed potatoes. 3) kt's pan fried breast of chicken. Beautiful on top of risotto. perfect not overcooked. 4) NY strip. another perfectly cooked entree. the fry's were tasty and plentiful. side: creamed spinach. this is a tough dish to get right and no surprise they did! dessert: we got this to go as there was no stomach room left. 1) key lime pie. We love coming here! It's soooo good! I highly recommend getting a reservation to ensure you're not waiting a long time, we never go without one! The atmosphere is a little loud and could benefit from some sound absorption. Overall, it's not too bad. The food is the best food you'll eat! The filet mignon with smashed potatoes will melt in your mouth. My husband tends to enjoy the specials. He said the elk was cooked to perfection. Now, the cheesecake, that's the best cheesecake ever.
