I love Salt and Straw! I first found them in Seattle so I was surprised to see they were in Wynwood as well. We were doing a late-night walk through the city and came upon this gem. It was a warm day in December so we went for some dessert. There is a long list of options available so you should try them before you order. One cool thing was that they gave us metal spoons to try to ice cream. Most of the time ice cream shops just gave us throw away plastic spoons. However, the only negative was the staff was constantly staring at me to make sure I place the spoon in the pile of used spoons afterwards. I guess some people might have stole some of the spoons before. I didn't see a need for them to constantly tell me to put the spoon into the bin. I ordered the chocolate brownie ice cream. It was expensive but worth the cost. They gave me two scoops which was appreciated. There wasn't much seating inside so we decided to go outside and enjoy our ice cream. This location is right next to the Wynwood Walls so there was a lot of foot traffic. I love good ice cream so I enjoyed myself. It was great on these hot days in Miami while you walk around. She had asked me if I wanted some more sprinkles in my ice cream & I'll never turn down that offer and she topped me off which was really nice. Two one scoops with one topping & a water bottle (which she also offered us a cold one after seeing us reach for a warm one on the shelf) came out to $18. Not bad but not worth the hype. I had my first experience with any Salt & Straw at this Wynwood location this past weekend while in town. I have heard of Salt & Straw for years and decided to finally see what the hype was about. I've had better boutique ice cream elsewhere, but this wasn't bad. The flavor I most wanted to try (the Lavender Honey) was sold out when I was there, so I settled for my favorite standard flavor Mint Chocolate Chip. Their version of this is vegan and is based with coconut milk. It wasn't bad, but I think I would have preferred the dairy version instead. Still, it's good that they have Vegan options. The prices are high - $8.50 for one scoop of ice cream is pricey. I like that they have waffle bowls (they call them cups but at my favorite ice cream shop in STL, they're referred to as bowls so that's what I call them). The service was friendly. There were no places to sit and eat inside which is a missed opportunity, but there are two benches outside. I will try S&S again, but will definitely try another flavor next time. read more

I love how it brings me back to my childhood. The quality of this ice cream won't break the bank and worth every penny. Another way I like to enjoy their products is by bringing along a friend and enjoying a flight with them. You have the choice of 4 different scoops. We simply choose our regular favorite ice cream each and then choose two of the new ones from their current series. The staff is always friendly and more than happy to let us taste a sample of our choice. I definitely recommend this spot for anyone with a sugar craving, post-first date outing, a night out with kids or simply just trying to enjoy a moment of happiness. The other day I couldn't decide between two really good flavors; luckily they have the option of doing a split scoop for .50 cents more; honestly worth it and you get the best of both worlds! Some places make great ice cream, some places create unique flavors. but only a few manage to make great ice cream with unique flavors. Salt & Straw is one of them. It's never easy to decide on the flavors, with exciting ones like Maple & Bacon Streusel, Mushroom Muddy Buddies (with candied mushrooms in it), Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero. There are plenty of collaboration with local favorites, such as Wynwood Brewing Mango Habanero IPA Sorbet, Exquisito Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies & Cream, Panther Coffee Chocolate Tres Leches, Salty Donut Guava and Cheese. Not the adventurous type? Don't worry, they do have good old vanilla and the like. I highly recommend asking for samples, as the taste may not exactly be what you imagine. Yes, they do offer samples now. And they offer it on metal, reusable spoons, so you don't have to feel guilty about the plastic. Although that doesn't help with my guilt from asking for too many samples... even though the staff is super nice about it. I haven't gotten around trying everything yet, seems like they rotate their seasonal quite often. The Mango Habanero IPA Sorbet is likely the spiciest ice cream I've ever had, but I love every bite/lick of it. Panther coffee has a nice rich flavor (duh). Honey Lavender is relatively mild. Mushrooms... I love mushrooms but that earthy savory note in ice cream takes getting used to. A little tip: if you order a double scope, you can get them split into two cups or cones. Each time, I'm amazed by the quality of the cream and how much the ingredients use shine in everything they make. I love the guava & cheese flavor they always have here, which has bits of cheese mixed through with the guava jam and cream. During my most recent visit they had Thanksgiving specials like peach cobbler and sage cornbread. They let you sample the flavors first, but it only made it harder for me to choose because everything was so delicious. The inside is minimalist and clean but only large enough for a big line. And seconds away from hitting order on Postmates. Salt & Straw was one of my go-to absolute favorite icecream shops when I was living near Venice in LA during my college years. I'd wait in the line for almost an hour, and when that honey lavender hit my lips I could have sworn a tear of joy rolled down my cheek. Honey lavender is the OG (in my opinion), and I really hope that olive oil flavor comes to Miami too. You can sample many flavors here and they use metal spoons that you then place in a chute for them to clean and I believe reuse. Everyone working there has been happy to help me try various flavors! Those cones... omg so good. Sealed well, so it won't spill while you're eating it, and I'm gluten intolerant but this didn't do me any harm. I had just left a YES event nearby and wanted something sweet to take home for later. I checked ye ole faithful Yelp, which led me to Salt and Straw. I had heard of S&S but never had the pleasure. There was a line (expected for a Sunday afternoon) but it moved quickly enough not to be a deterrent. They encourage lots of tastings (even have a sign up saying "We suggest trying them all!) so I took advantage and sampled about 9 different flavors. I settled on a double scoop of guava donut & cheese and sea salt with caramel. I LOVED the flaky bits of real sea salt throughout the ice cream paired perfectly with a rich caramel. I would buy a pint of that flavor it's so good. The guava donut was good too but I didn't like it nearly as much as sea salt caramel. Thankfully it's one of their daily flavors. Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: Not everyone is, but I am a fan of Whoppers, so malt is a flavor I am down with, sweet and nutty with hints of caramel and paired with chocolate chip cookie dough and lovely crunches of dark chocolate, just so damn good. The Salty Donut Guava: Creamy cream cheese with the bite of guava acidity and puff pastry donut pieces throughout. This one is more unique and had me going back for more after every bite, tart and sweet in the best ways. Perfection. Chocolate Gooey Brownie: A classic, chocolate to the max. It's like hot chocolate frozen with the gooeiest melt in your mouth brownies, heaven. No questions here, out of five cones (not a typo, 6!!!).
