This place is unassuming from the outside, but what a collection! Everything is curated with a mid-century slant. Beautiful one of a kind furniture pieces. Upstairs is HOT in the summer months, hell the whole store is but there are fans at least. I wouldn't say it's very ada friendly, lots of breakables and narrow pathways. Wow! I'm a little embarrassed that it took a friend from New York to alert me to this excellent, funky, cool antique shop in Ypsi. Even when I explored the main drag on W Michigan Avenue, I somehow overlooked this little gem. Maybe it was because I wasn't in the market for furniture at the time? Whatever the case, I am thrilled that I've found it. After buying a house in Ann Arbor, it needed to be furnished. Everything around here seems to scream mid-century modern, and this shop fills that niche marvelously. My wife and I took an initial scouting trip, after being tempted by so many of Salt City Antique's vignettes the shop posted on Instagram. We had to see it for ourselves. The front door and back door were open, so there was good ventilation passing through the building. Everyone was masked up and patient, so shoppers could keep well apart. There was a lot to love. Some of the pieces were already claimed, and that was a bummer. But there were a few items that left a lingering impression, and we decided to mull them over. Then we went back with the intention of actually buying something to sit on and someplace to put stuff. What we forgot was our checkbook! Yes, they take credit cards, but between you, me, and the wall unit, you can save a few bucks if you pay by check. Plus, the great folks at Salt City Antiques was able to deliver our very large items the next weekend! Bringing a big, heavy, three piece wall unit into a house and setting it up is no easy task. And I really appreciated some of the style advice as to exactly where to place it in the living room. We were told, and I agree, that once this monster was set up, moving it would be an ordeal. So I am very glad we got it right the first time. Thanks to Salt City Antiques, our living room went from an empty box filled with some cardboard boxes into an actual space that can be enjoyed by the family! Ideally, I would like it to be enjoyed by friends as well. You know, whenever we can start having friends over again. In the meantime, that gives us the opportunity to put the rest of the room together. We still need a coffee table, some end tables, another cozy place to sit, and so much more. So I'm keeping one eye on the 'gram to see what Salt City Antiques is bringing into the shop. Because without a doubt, we'll be back to get more stuff and help complete the look of our new home. read more

My favorite antique store in Michigan. Have loved to come here over the years and have never left empty handed. I would tell you my favorite areas to check but I refuse to let you buy what I may find lol. Really they have amazing and completely appropriately priced mid century collections and memorabilia. And of course vinyls, books, kitchen gear and art. They are also some of the friendly shop owners and knowledgeable about what they sell or have in consignment. It was like stepping onto a movie set for a 1960's film! So much color, so much cool, well-preserved and well-restored furniture and thoughtfully displayed bric a brac, knickknack, items trimmed with rickrack...sorry, I just got caught up in the moment! Even the front windows are brightly painted with mid century modern symbols and designs, enticing you like the best Mad Men ad campaign to open the doors and step back in time. Don't miss the upstairs section where there's a great stash of vintage clothing, cowboy boots and a very organized section of books. There's an awesome selection of Pyrex in the kitchen alcove-I saw some colors and designs that I don't come across very often. Although most of the furniture was way out of my price range (but worth every penny!) there were plenty of affordable finds to fit any budget. And the inspiration and nostalgia are complimentary! read more

Well, there's a lot of good stuff here -- vintage, antique, old school, etc. I, however, go just for the Fiestaware! Piles and piles of it, all displayed in its own corner of the building. Pricing is good, selection and variety excellent. Old, new, and every color under the rainbow. Last time I went I left with a stack of luncheon plates and some serving pieces. There were some cool vintage pieces that had been refinished and reupholstered, too - if you like collectible furniture but aren't into rehabbing it yourself, this is a good place to go. read more

A wide variety of items and reasonably priced. Found some interesting jewelry and home decor items. Why only 1 star? Poor customer service. As the only person in the store, I was never acknowledged until I was leaving. Not saying I enjoy someone hanging over me. While I was there I had to endure listening to the cashier talk loudly on the phone about a man that hacks into a woman's cell phone to read text messages, how the woman pays for everything even his cigarettes, how it could end up on Facebook, how mental illness runs in the family and he is probably off his meds. Seriously. I was going to purchase a couple of items but set them down to leave. While leaving the cashier asked if I needed help. She seemed to be too busy with her phone call to help. read more

I was very impressed by the quality and selection of midcentury furniture and collectibles, but the snotty attitude we received is what left a lasting impression. We were sitting at a table, and my husband passed his cellphone to me to show me something, and I accidentally dropped the phone on the table. A young man standing near us turned around and sharply told us we needed to be more careful as the objects in the shop were old. Indeed. As we live in a midcentury modern home and have many midcentury antiques, I know a little something about midcentury collectibles and don't need to be lectured to like a child. It was a simple accident and there was no damage or harm done. Please keep the antiques AND the snotty attitude. read more

I've found so many great finds over the years, from Lane coffee tables, to unique vintage items that give our home personal touches and some quirkiness. This is a nice place to stop if you're in a treasure-hunting mood. I finally went in after seeing their retro bars and tables on the sidewalk and in their window display. They have a rather extensive amount of things, and their new location on Michigan Avenue is huge! I saw lots of really gorgeous and unusual things while browsing, and their prices are pretty average for an antique store, although I did spot a few good deals. If you're in the market for a beautiful antique rug or some kitschy accessories, I'd definitely check this place out. I'll be back soon enough! read more

I had a ton of fun looking through everything in this store. It was almost too much to handle though. I mostly enjoyed looking at the dining sets because they were painted adorably and I have been in need of one for a while. There were also numerous wall decorations with cute sayings on them. I enjoy things like that! The store had multiple levels and quite an impressive staircase. You should definitely walk through this store if you are cruising through downtown Ypsilanti! read more
