This is the only place I will take my MTB. The shop is timely and they are not out to create additional revenue through unneeded repairs. Often they throw my bike on the stand and make the basic adjustments needed, while I wait. I walked in and looked around the entire shop for about 15 minutes without being acknowledged or offered help at all. I even walked up to the counter and waited, where 2 employees were standing around having a conversation, and another person was behind a counter at a computer not talking to anyone - I made eye contact - and still no one gave me any indication that they knew I was there! I just left and went somewhere else. From what I could glean myself, this is mostly a mountain bike shop. It looks like there's a room in the back where repairs are made, and there is a small sales floor in the front of the shop with mountain bike fittings, tires, saddles, bike locks, and a limited selection of bikes with more outside in front of the store. I hate to give such a low rating for what is probably a great shop, but I didn't have a good experience. I'm sure some great builds happen at this shop, it looks like they've got a lot of gear to customize all kinds of mountain bikes, and it sounds like they have some knowledgeable people working here. The energy was loud and boisterous, lots of people were shouting from the back room to the front, talking enthusiastically about parts, but I just felt invisible here. :/ read more

Family owned and operated. The nicest people work here. Always willing to teach how to better care for my bike. Fair and honest pricing. Service technicians are wizards. Purchasing a mountain bike fell into a higher spending category for me so it was important I picked one that felt the most comfortable. I'm not one to post reviews. Ever. But the service was so bad here that I had to. I don't expect someone to hold my hand, but I do expect common courtesy as a customer. The three interactions with employees there--one I presume is the owner--we're terrible and they all behaved like it was an inconvenience to do their basic job. Go to Bingham Cyclery, those dudes are super friendly and accommodating. read more

I've been here a few times and will never come here again. Their prices on parts are way higher. For labor, they charge for every little thing, it's ridiculous compared to other shops in the valley. I called for a price of cables. I was quoted a price. I drove there 10 miles, but the cables were more than double the price. My neighbors who are avid cyclists hate these guys. read more

Went in for a tube today. Got home and noticed it wasn't the correct valve stem I wanted. No big deal, came back an hour later to exchange it and I believe it was the owner who seemed very irritated to make that happen. He never said a word to me and waved it the air to me that he had the replacement. I know it was a tiny purchase but he he didn't have to be a dick. read more

I can't say enough about Chris and Salt Cycles. I've called down to the shop from MT three times now with questions about two specific and similar bikes that they carry, and every time Chris was awesome. He not only took the time to answer my questions and to give me his input (this guy is like a mountain bike savant when it comes to his knowledge, but he shares his knowledge in a humble and approachable way), he did so with an unmatched generosity of spirit. The first time I called him, it was just to ask questions because Salt Cycles is the only shop I could find in the Intermountain West that could get either of the frames I was looking for for a custom build. I've been in this mountain biking game for twenty+ years, and like so many others, I've run into a lot of arrogance and sizing up at the shop level, but Chris is SALT of the earth. I can't thank you enough for your generosity of spirit, strong vibe and goodness Chris. I may live seven hours north of your shop, but I'm ALL IN on Salt Cycles. These guys are bigger than a bike shop--they're out there making a difference in the world and their community. Great local bike shop! The hubby and I got road bikes here and we couldn't be happier with our purchase. Excellent customer service with fair price and quality products. Exactly what you want out of any local business. They also took the time to help the hubby and I pick out the perfect bike, helmets, and accessories. They clearly view customers as in it for the long haul and treat folks accordingly. Just a quick note to the customers: clogs plus socks and shorts is definite fashion statement. I saw three people sporting this look on my last visit and it was quite the look indeed! Keep doing what you're doing friends. read more

Waited in the shop for nearly 20 minutes hoping to buy some shoes. No one acknowledged or helped me so I left.

Sometimes at specialty bike shops you encounter a snotty attitude if you bring in a cheap, crummy bike to get new tires etc. Not so at Salt Cycles. The whole staff was super friendly and didn't bat an eye when I brought in my three girl's bikes to get the tire tubes replaced, even though they were all cheap little Walmart bikes that the kids got for their birthdays. I love when places have good service, and this one does. read more

Took our kids bike in looking for advice/solutions for training wheels on a larger than average training wheeled size bike. Still a kids bike-ours is 8 years old. They couldn't do it-and also couldn't be bothered to offer up any options (different training wheels, axle extender, etc. All of which are basic solutions all over the internet). Less than impressed. Plenty of bike shops around-no need to waste time with one that doesn't offer decent customer service. read more

In August 2013 I decided to begin biking to work to save some money (my wife and I sold our second car). Bike commuting was new to me; I have an old Gary Fisher Marlin mountain bike; but, after riding it to and from work 20 miles/day for about a month I started to wonder if there was a faster, more comfortable biking option for my commute. After doing a lot of research, I decided I wanted a specific Scott road bike and I started looking around for the right price. I'm a bigger guy and need a 61cm frame so it was a little bit of a challenge to find the bike I wanted in the size I needed. Finally one day I was perusing KSL and I came across an add from Salt Cycles indicating that they were doing a promo for 0% financing on Scott and Felt bikes. When I went to their location in Sandy and started looking at bikes and talking to the workers about what I was looking for, I was very impressed with the service I received. The employees seemed knowledgeable and willing to give honest opinions about different bikes, components, etc. After talking with the employees for a few min, the owner came in and jumped right in when I had questions about the price and the financing promotion that I saw on KSL. After all was said and done, and based on the suggestion of the people at Salt Cycles, I ended up buying a Felt Z series road bike for a few hundred dollars less than the Scott I had decided I wanted before coming in. I did end up financing it for 0% interest (I think it was a promotion so don't go expecting that option available whenever you want). I have been riding to work for about 9 months now, including all through the winter. I have been VERY happy with the bike that I got from Salt Cycles. I have also returned a few times for tune ups (free for a year when you buy your bike from them!). The shop staff knows their stuff and my bike always comes out working like it did the day I bought it! Recently I have had some issues with spokes breaking (I'm a big guy--6'6", 310lbs) and Salt Cycles has done a very nice job helping manage the cost for me. They even reached out to Felt to see about getting some help with the cost of the new wheel I ended up buying as the bike is not even a year old. I can't say enough about how honest and helpful the people at Salt Cycles are. I highly recommend this bike shop for anyone looking either for repairs on your current bike or options for buying a new one. These guys won't screw you to make a buck; they will take care of you. I've been more than pleased with the service and accommodations from Salt Cycles. Chris, Amy, and the whole gang there have easily gone above and beyond from the beginning. I bought a new Ibis Ripmo mountain bike from them going on 2 months ago and have had nothing but the best service even to this day; they stay super busy for a reason. Their positivity and enthusiasm to give you the best experience shows. I spent a considerable amount of time visiting numerous bike shops prior to purchasing to check out different bikes, talk shop, and demo about 8 bikes before choosing the Ibis from Salt Cycles. As one can imagine, I had a range of different experiences from the other shops going from the shop workers being offensive for no reason other than to stroke their ego to the best service which I found at Salt Cycles. These guys love riding bikes and truly want you to love riding your new bike or to get you back on the road with your current bike. Highly recommend. read more

Completely dropped the ball with my bike. They had my bike from August 15th until September 23rd. In that time, I recieved 0 status updates or any info at all. I called days after the first missed deadline and they said they were still waiting for parts. That sounded reasonable. After another week, I hadn't heard anything so I called again. This time they said the bike was done, but the carbon wheel had melted and I needed it rebuilt. The wheels were their own brand so they said they would build a new one for $250. I agreed, and Chris said it would be done in a few days. Cool. A week later I hadn't heard anything so I assumed it would be done. My bad. I drove to the shop to pick it up. It took them 10 minutes to find my bike. They said the bike wasn't done, but showed me the damage to the wheel. He said it was next up and it would be done the next day. OK. Annoying, but I can deal with that. Two weeks later, I hadn't heard anything yet again. Surely it would be done. I went in again at 2pm to find out it wasn't done AGAIN. Next up they said again. Next up meant done the next day at 3:00pm. The resolution to this customer service blunder was being offered 2 t-shirts for what turned out to be a $550 bill. I wanted to be loyal, but when nothing was offered to fix the situation except T-shirts with their logo, I'm left to go to a shop with real customer service. They are nice people, just not an organized shop. Sorry Salt, Go Ride just won my business. read more

Been to every bike shop in the south valley looking for a skilled wrench. Easily the best service bay around. Super friendly, not uncommon to get immediate service and walk out with a fix instead of making an appointment and dropping your bike off. I don't like to go a few days without training. Prices are very reasonable and fair. The mechanics take a lot of pride and have an eye for detail. They have a passion for what they do. They only place I will take my bikes. Obviously they have earned my trust and business. read more

Slat Cycles is my go-to shop. Chris and Amy are awesome and will work to get you a good deal on your bike and parts. Their in-stock selection is decent. They stock quality parts, apparel and protective gear. For instance, I saw G-Form pads around, but couldn't find them anywhere local. Salt Cycles had them. Their service shop is excellent, too. The guys back there will take care of your bike, get it done right, and get you back on the trails in no time. They have a lot of parts in stock, so you can generally get repairs done pretty quickly. read more

This place is hands down the best bike shop in the state. I won't be going to any other shops for now on. I have been biking since age 14 and been to many bike shops in the past but this one by far has the friendliest people in the business. I have been looking to build my dream bike for years now. And since I finally have an "adult" income, I set out to make that dream a reality. So I find a bike frame I like on ksl go buy it and start looking for the parts I need to get it up and running. After hours of looking I finally figure out the parts I want and I just didn't have the know how at the time to figure the proper sizing. So I show up to salt cycles with just the frame and feeling a bit embarrassed for not knowing what to do. Not only did they make me feel completely comfortable while I was there, They even matched most the prices I found online and on a few parts gave me better pricing. They worked with me for 3 months on my bike and every time I go in there I feel like I'm truly welcome. If that's not good service I don't know what is. Their mechanics are super helpful, and way knowledgeable, they built up and also installed every part of my bike. My rims they built are still running like the day I got them, everything runs as smooth as can be. I honestly can't think of one bad thing to say about Chris and his team. Please save yourself some headaches and give these guys a shot. You definitely won't be disappointed. read more

I bought a Schwinn bicycle here a couple years ago, and they were very helpful in finding the right fit for me. I have not ridden for a while, but have recently started. I accidentally damaged my front brake device, and thought it was going to be expensive to fix, but I took it in to Salt Cyles and explained to their technician what had happened. He looked at it, made a couple of adjustments, and fixed the problem in about 10 seconds. This is an amazing place to buy and have your bike serviced. After recently emerging from a ~10 year mtn biking hiatus related to child bearing years, it was time for a new bike. I stumbled on this store when visiting from out of state, searching on my phone for a local ibis dealer and realized I was blocks from Salt Cycles. PROS- The store: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. More important, they know their stuff. Ever been annoyed when the guy selling you a bike doesn't know how to answer your question about a bike or its components, and instead of just admitting it, he makes up some answer that either sounds like a 12 year old guessing or he looks at the bike and reads a half-answer to you, and at the same time pulls it off with an air of condescension? You won't find that here. Everyone was both knowledgeable and most courteous (from Chris who sold me the bike, to the woman who helped me get a demo bike after hours, to the mechanics who also stayed late to adjust it). The selection of bikes was also good. Finally, the prices are good. Though I wanted to just buy the bike there because of what a great shop it was, I felt obligated to at least price check with another local dealer, a dealer near my home in California, as well as craigslist in both CA and UT, and it was clear Salt Cycles was giving me the best price. The bike: Ibis Ripley. The bike is AMAZING! I stopped by to have the handlebars trimmed after my first ride, and unfortunately couldn't rave about it yet (not the best trail for showing off the bike's abilities), but now after 7 rides and 10 days later I am SOLD! It is light, fast, and highly maneuverable. Tight steep switchbacks - no problem, big drops - no problem, even obstacles I could never clear on my old bike - no problem...mostly. I don't know what ibis did with the geometry on the Ripley (I am an MD, not an engineer), but they got it right. Couldn't be happier! CONS- At the time, I had wished they had a bike to demo like the one I bought, but in the end, this was clearly not a problem. SUMMARY: Excellent service. Best price after comparing.
