Salt Pond Bay is a "double treat" - Quite possibly the best snorkeling in all of the Virgin Islands AND you get two very nice hikes out of it with the Ram Head and Drunk Bay trails. The East End of St. John is the less "busy" side of the island, not too many tourists, and thus, this beach and bay are relatively uninhabited, so you don't have to worry about swimming on top of someone. Ample parking at the trail head down to the beaches. Although it's known for snorkeling, this bay is PERFECT for SUPing - since it's a small bay, it's relatively calm, which lets you see TONS of stuff. You will see sea turtles, rays, conch, and lots of other beautiful marine life. If you're afraid you won't get your workout in while you're vacationing on St John, grab your mask and swim out to the two rock formations about 1,000' off shore. You will be glad you did! The Ram Head Trail hike can be hot - Make sure you take water and a hat. There's not a lot of cover. At the end of the trail is the Blue Cobblestone Beach. This beach is absolutely breathtaking for a swim and is great for a snorkel too. Because of the diverse ecosystem, you will see stuff here that you can't see in other snorkels on the island. Lots of pretty coral! The Drunk Bay Trail is another hike at Salt Pond Bay, and is accessible from the trailhead of Ram Head. It will take you around the other side of the salt pond and down a small hill. The "fun" at the end of this trail is the abundance of coral sculptures that people have made. This is not a place to swim, as this bay is really rocky and the currents make it kinda difficult to swim. This bay is known for the flotsam that washes ashore, so that can make beach combing fun - who knows, you may find a TREASURE! There IS a short 1/3m hike DOWN (remember the converse of the whole "what goes up must come down" quote when you're packing your beach bag!) to Salt Pond Bay, but the views are gorgeous and your reward for the hike is just that! And, don't fear - Ms. George will be waiting for you with snacks and cold refreshments when you come back up!

    Salt Pond, beautiful beach!

Gorgeous water, nice white sand, and much less busy than most of the other beaches on St John.

The boat shuttle is a small little boat that fits up to 6 people and it took all of 5-10 minutes to get from the ferry dock to Honeymoon. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They set up your chairs wherever you want on the beach. They pull out the kayaks for you and give you the snorkel gear. I was a little disappointed because if you are just doing the equipment rental you're not allowed to kayak passed the confines of honeymoon beach, which is kind of small. I have a feeling that is for your own safety though so you don't get overzealous and find yourself lost out on the water without a tour guide! We didn't end up using the SUPs but they were available if we wanted. We snorkeled and unfortunately there wasn't a lot of fish. But we did see a couple sea turtles which was what I was hoping for!! I will say, the food and drinks they sell in the hut are super expensive and downright not worth it. So bring a mini cooler with snacks and water if you can! It was a leisurely day and we liked being able to snorkel and kayak of our own free will!

BEST THING TO DO IN PUERTO RICO!!!!…read more This is not my first time to Culebra or Culebrita but this is the BEST things to do in Puerto Rico. PERIOD! Let's say I am an avid traveler and planner but this experience was 8 STARS our of 5 stars for me. So off the chart AMAZING! My boyfriend and I wanted to do a date in Culebra but we did not expect this level or service and hospitality. Can not be found anywhere else in Puerto Rico (trust me, I looked & tried). Captain Camillo and first mate Danny was such incredible host that we thought we were on our honeymoon (seriously, tooo romantic). HOW IT WORK: 1. Pre-trip communication was surprisingly detailed and prompt. Will help you with how to get to Culebra. I.E. Ferry tickets. Very accommodating on start time. Camillo gave us great recommendation where I wanted to visit. 2. TRANSPORTATION IS NOT INCLUDED but Camillo went out of his way and picked us up from the airport since we didn't rent a golf-cart so we were very grateful for his kindness. Please don't expect transportation because of this review. 3. Meet up point was in a central area. Easy to find. Right next to the restaurant El Navegante. Have dinner there after your trip. 4. The crew greeted us with a plate of fresh fruits, cheese, and deli meat. So luxurious~ 5. Took a short ride to Playa Tortuga in Culebrita where the water was so clear like swimming in a pool. Brought out the Bose speaker to set the mood. 6. We started to float in the water while the crew set up the beach chairs and umbrella for us. They brought the cheese plate, Bose speakers, drinks, and our phones via Kayak to the beach for us! That was so wonderful because last time we had to do it ourselves via Water Taxi. We felt so spoiled. 7. FRESH & HOT lunch! They grilled delicious shrimp and chicken on the boat for us. Paired with an amazing gourmet salad and asparagus. Don't forget to take pictures because it was so romantic. (last time I went on a Catamaran to Culebra, they gave us cold sandwiches) Probably the best meal I had in Culebra. 8. Camillo took us on a adventure via kayak that's included on our trip to the water pool near by. (I had to pay for a snorkeling tour separated last time so this was a definitely worth the money to book with Sea Culebra). Camillo took us on a snorkeling tour and we got to swim with turtles and saw a stingray. We both can't swim but with a life vest, Camillo gave us the confidence to explore these beautiful water. 9. Also included water a SUP board, floaties, kayaks, snorkeling gears and anything you'll need to lounge or exploring. And we LOUNGED! We will NEVER come back to Culebrita without booking with Sea Culebra again because it cost more and took a lot of time to logistically plan all the activities you should be doing in Culebra. Despite the unforgettable memories we made in Culebrita, we made friends with the crew that made the experience more memorable. BEST MOMENTS: 1. Made friends with crew 2. Greeted us with fruit platter 3. Fresh, hot lunch 4. Set up camp for us with everything we need (Bose speaker, beach chairs, snacks, drinks, phones, sunscreens, towels, floaties). We literally didn't lift a finger. 5. Included snorkeling and kayak adventure tours lead by Camillo. 6. The passion and love of nature from the crew made us fell in love with Culebrita 7. Allowed us to have quality time with each other I found them on TripAdvisor but directly booking with them will help small businesses! #smallbusiness

Besides being a hilarious raconteur and keeping us entertained the whole time, Captain Felix knows some of the best snorkeling spots around the outer cays. Some roads were unpaved and the ride was bumpy; nevertheless, our driver guided and warned us about the terrain. We then got off and proceeded to the bay. Took off our footwear prior to getting on the kayak that had clear bottom. When you get to the bay and paddle, it can be difficult to hear the guide and understand where he's pointing at. The water in the bay would glow with movement. The guide also talked about some constellations. Overall, this was a very well organized tour. Though it was a nice experience, I was underwhelmed. They do not recommend bringing your cell phones on the kayak and you cannot leave your belongings on the bus. Some bought and brought waterproof clear plastic casing that can be worn/hung on the neck. Bringing the electronic devices is at your own risk; some still did and tried capturing videos/pictures but it was difficult to do so unless you have a nice camera.

Will look for the picture. Since, yesterday it has changed to their normal prices. The deducting another 1 star because: 1- There is no formal training. If they think 2 mins of telling you how to row, kneel, and stand than I guess they might as well deduct $10 for that. And just rent out paddle boards lol. 2- I'm a very strong swimmer and found it very hard to maneuver against the wind/current. 3-Things they've failed to mention do not stand if your paddling against the waves. You will flip over. You will go in and basically teach yourself and if you have common sense then you will come out of it learning and teaching yourself how to paddle board. Again you will TEACH yourself how to paddle board. LOL Btw- I did see a manatee up close and that was pretty nice. And yes, I came out an avid self taught pro paddle boarder. We called ahead to reserve five paddleboards for an hour ($20/person), and were greeted immediately upon arrival. They were very accommodating even though we were a little late. There was even a place to store our wallets and backpacks despite the whole thing being outdoors. After paying with our credit cards (also a plus, since most places in San Juan only take cash), we were given a quick crash course on how to paddleboard as the others in my group had never been before and sent out into the water. The lagoon was pretty calm -- no waves or strong current, so it wasn't too hard to paddle. The best part for me was definitely the manatee that we found swimming the middle of the lagoon. Overall, wonderful experience.
