I am a breast feeding Mom who needed more nutrition then the greesy fast food places along the way on my family's road trip. We stopped in and the owner was able to set me up with an awesome chicken salad sandwich and some great no preservative chips. She was able to make a turkey sandwich for our son. Also, don't sleep on the desserts, the brownies are incredible and the jalapeño lemonade!! Bounus points for our fur baby being able to stretch her legs on the patio, definitely stop in to check it out! P.s. We were passing through on on Route 54 and looking for lunch and what a treasure we found. The food, chicken salad, broccoli salad, potato salad, fresh homegrown tomatoes and jalapeño lemonade were absolutely delicious! Best of all was our host Tammy Kay. She is an incredible person along with her husband Lonnie and business partner Andy. We were treated with incredible kindness and hospitality. We absolutely loved our stop at The Salty Hen! The chicken salad sandwiches were fresh, flavorful, and served with a side of fresh fruit a perfect touch. They also had a great selection of chips to choose from and the tea was crisp and refreshing. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality the owner was incredibly friendly and even offered us extra ice for our cooler as we headed out on our road trip. That kind of kindness makes all the difference. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area! read more

10/10. Stopped in on a lark while passing through town. I'm not even a fan of chicken salad but was convinced to try their chicken salad sandwich and southwest pasta salad. It was absolutely amazing and the tomatoes were absolutely spot on! I also had my arm twisted into a slice of coconut cream pie by my compatriot. It was light, wonderful and tasted like unicorns fornicating upon the tastebuds. I will happily detour an hour to hit dalhart for lunch next time I'm in the panhandle. read more

On a road trip with my sister and we were looking for a place to grab a late lunch. Looked and saw this quaint little restaurant with all 5 star reviews. They are well deserved! The owner was immediately welcoming and absolutely charming! The food was delicious! We both had a lunch special and then got a baked good to go. The German Chocolate Cake was the best I've had in a very long time! Strawberry lemonade was fantastic. Overall a really great stop and 10/10 recommend! read more

We stopped here on our way to CO on a family trip! We loved the salad bar and wraps. The broccoli and pasta salads were amazing! We even grabbed two pies and cheesecakes to take with us to enjoy once we get to our destination. The owners are the sweetest and made us feel like family. Everything is homemade and delicious. We travel through Dalhart TX quite often and now we know where we will be stopping to eat from now on. Can't wait to try their chicken fried steak which is apparently award winning. We stopped here today on our way through Dalhart because it was highly rated online. They were closed, but the owner was there and invited us in. Tammi Kate fed us the best chicken salad croissants we've ever had. She's a wonderful artist as well as a fabulous chef. She and Lonnie are good people.
