It only took us 1hour and 15 minutes to get there by car! The owners, Michael and Liz were helpful from the very beginning; from giving us directions to attending to our every need from the moment we arrived, and with genuine smiles. You can feel that they honestly care. Our experience was amazing. After speaking with Liz and visiting the place before planning my weekend and booking it, I knew right away that is was the perfect little piece of heaven I had been looking for and that was missing in my life. The accommodations are very comfortable, bed and rooms. Everything is impeccably clean and conveniently placed. Sheets, pillows and linens are also included which avoids a headache when with groups. The washrooms are spacious and there are sufficient amounts so that you never find yourself waiting to use the toilet or shower. You have the option to stay in the house or rent the cabins outside as well. The yoga barn is not that of what you would think of. In my clients words: "it's more of a barn out of a fairytale than an actual barn you picture in your head!" The dining room is spacious but also very cosy. The person who built the barn had to be very patient and meticulous. The chef/cook we hired through Liz's recommendations was a hit! Her food was creative and tasty, wonderful flavors and she is also a very inspiring person. Not only does she speak multiple languages but is very talented with music as well and we finished the night around the fire pit outside, playing instruments she brought and dancing in celebration, hypnotized by the flammes and the sound of her voice. I highly recommend her services! Her name is Erin Meher (erinmeher@gmail.com) and she is into ayurvedic yoga massage, yogasana, pranayama, meditation, organic gardening & permaculture. A very multi-talented woman that has so much in depth knowledge and even helped enlighten my clients about proper nutrition. Certainly don't hesitate to ask Liz about her! Surrounded by the beauty's of nature as if it's not enough, they also have a beautiful artisan pond, perfect to swim, very refreshing with access to a paddle boat. The pond is also filled with clay which was awesome as we gave each other facials and let it dry in the sun, lounging on comfortable chairs. The forest is dense but the trail walk is clear and flowers decorate the path to make it even prettier. The garden is beautiful; I had never seen asparagus grow! Liz is also a Thai massage practitioner and we had all booked in a massage. I can honestly say, I've lived in Thailand for almost a year and I've never had such a wonderful massage. I was competing in Muay Thai and getting massages done every third day so you can imagine I've had my share of them... But none compare to Liz's healing hands. She is attentionate and caring and you can feel her putting her positive loving intentions and the sincere release that comes with it. The best hands on massage I've ever had! If I had 4 thumbs, I'd give her 4 thumbs up!! Her father Michael is also an extraordinary man. I still don't understand how he keeps up with the maintenance of the place. The property is huge! He helped us with the fire and even came to serve us fresh watermelon on Sunday when we were lounging with our facials fresh from the pond! It was simply an amazing experience with great company and if I could, I would live there permanently!! I'll have to settle for a weekend getaway as often as possible! You can be sure that I will be back, sooner than later, by myself, with my partner, and organizing more weekends with clients!!! All my clients thanked me truly for such an out of this world experience. They will all be back again, that's for sure! Ahh the Universe works in mysterious ways but this was a very pleasant surprise that will hopefully continue to be apart of my life for a long time. As you can see if you read this whole message, I was extremely pleased and amazed by everything this place has to offer. Don't hesitate to book your get away vacation as you cannot possibly regret it!!!

Woodhaven Country Lodge - Woodhaven Suite

    Woodhaven Country Lodge

If you want to travel with your pet, this is the place to go…read more Not just that, but the owners (David and Michael) are the nicest innkeepers you could hope to meet and have 3 dogs and a cat of their own. It's in a great location near Buckhorn on Sandy Lake. Right now with COVID on it is really a fantastic place to go since you can hang out and look after yourself in your suite. The rooms all have kitchenettes (more like kitchens really, since they have full stove, fridge, microwave, pots/pans, dishes, cutlery, BBQ etc for each unit. They even include a pie in the freezer and coffee, tea, filters, milk etc. Very well outfitted. The bedrooms are well appointed and all units have A/C or a fireplace for the winter. Also, if you don't want to be totally disconnected, there is a big TV in each unit with Shaw Cable with Crave TV... plus a DVD player (and a library of over 200 DVDs to chose from). Lots more to do as well --- the lake with swimming, kayaking and paddle boats. Trails to hike on, or board games to play, or books to read. Such a relaxing place --- we booked the Woodhaven suite, which is perfect for 2... and we had a nice little fenced in backyard with chairs (we took our morning coffee out there and enjoyed the lake view)... and a bbq grill. (note - some suites have multiple beds/bedrooms and are suitable for families). Of note -- this is not a party place folks. People come up here for the nature and relaxation. Most folks are lights out by like 11 pm. There is a fire pit to enjoy in the evenings with a glass of wine. But most people are here for the outdoor activities and R&R. There is also a hot tub and a small pool. Nearby: - Buckhorn is about 15 minutes away and has a grocery store, LCBO, country store and some other shops. - Bobcaygeon is little further away and worth the trip to the Kawartha Dairy (their ice cream is soooo good). Hope you get to enjoy like we did -- we will be going back!

The place is Woodhaven! Yelp team please correct this as I can't seem to do this on my end!…read more My dog is getting up there in years and I really wanted to do something special with him over the Christmas break. So number one thing, our accommodation must be dog friendly. I love cottages, but I begrudge the serious planning needed to go, especially for a short stay. I wanted something in between a cottage and a hotel, so I decided to try a lodge. I chose Woodhaven based on locations as I know the Kawarthas are beautiful but mostly based on their promise of a very dog friendly environment. Well they delivered! The location is pretty tucked away and has a beautiful view of the lake. Out the window you can sit and watch bluejays, chickadees, and red and black squirrels stop in for some feed. The woods surrounding the lodge are gorgeous. I am a winter fan, so I loved the snow covered evergreens and birches. My dog absolutely loved his runs. There are seven suites in the lodge. I selected the most modest one as I wanted the private hot tub. I was offered an upgrade to a larger suite with a much better view, but I stuck to my initial decision though in retrospect perhaps I should have taken the view over the tub. The decor in my suite was not quite my taste, but it was true to the dog theme of the place and it was clean and comfortable. I spent a fair bit of time with a glass of red reading in the library where if you're a book nerd like me, there is tons to borrow and read! I also enjoyed sitting in the dinning room. The common table itself is really gorgeous as is the view. The stand out for me was having some of my meals prepared for me. Breakfast is included every morning and so were my dinners on two out of three of the nights. Yah! Michael is an excellent cook and I appreciated his gourmet takes on down home cooking. The strata he made one breakfast was divine and will live on in my memory as will his candied squash. Normally I am not a fan of sharing meals with strangers at communal tables mostly because I am dreadful at small talk, but here I felt comfortable. I think this was amplified because my dog was welcome to accompany me to meals. That little detail made all the difference to me.

They were offering a wellness retreat that included two night's stay for two people, breakfast and yoga. With the pandemic and no ability to travel outside of the country, this was a welcome getaway. I was really looking forward to going. Unfortunately, my travel companion's health took a turn for the worst and wasn't able to go anymore, so we cancelled. Let me just say how accommodating the staff at the resort are from beginning to end. First off, they were pretty much booked up during the summer and the only availability for a room was the end of August, which we took. They were so incredibly kind, doing their utmost to ensure our stay would be comfortable. Corresponding with hotel staff was a breeze, whether by phone or email. They were always quick to respond and super polite. I would have loved to visit the grounds itself as it is vast and beautiful. Service from what I observed was excellent and believe had we stayed over our views would be reinforced. Pros: - 90 min from Toronto - Offers a wide variety of services, including a home away from home relaxation retreat - Foods are made from scratch - Cooking classes and spa services offered - Lots of trails to explore - Less than 10km from Cobourg Beach & Lighthouse - Golf on site
