Let me start by saying the resort and their people are wonderful. This is a rustic little city with a quaint atmosphere with serene views as far as the eye can see. The cottages and boathouse are nested away a beautiful shoreline that incases Lake Simcoe. Here's where we met Andrew; an amazing chef at the Briars that would give Emerald and Bobby Flay a run for the money. Andrew created a fabulous dinner with an amazing presentation, phenomenal service; enough to challenge the best NY restaurants! Pay homage to a great chef, before he is sought out by the big restaurant owners of Ontario, New York or abroad, and disappears from this little non descript hideaway. It's got so…read moremuch space for you to walk around boat around (if that's not your cup of tea, then Casino Rama is a very short drive away). They have more than your basic needs for overnight lodging, on par with a 2 star hotel. I'm not sure how the whole reservation system works, but I ended up staying in the hotel/motel like building while some in our group got to commandeer a couple of stand alone cottages with a large second floor balcony (our rooms had balconies too but not that fancy and the ceiling was completely covered in mosquitoes). They proved to be very useful when to kill the night watching the stars without getting in anyone's way. We didn't really boat around since the water was chilly, but they had canoes which you could take out, and lot of space to hike around. The main building encompasses a game room, a large living room of sorts with couches and a TV, a large dining area and a couple more big common rooms if I remember right. The staff were professional but I must admit that the food was not good, but it's not a spot I'd come expecting great food (or perhaps we didn't get to sample the best they had to offer) so not too many marks off for the disappointing food. If you have a need for a large space to go run a retreat I would highly recommend this spot, it's a fantastic location, not hard to find, everything's there for you and you're bound to leave satisfied!

We stayed for 5 nights Friday-Tuesday in late July. Accommodations: We stayed in the Lodge and were sort of happy we did. The rooms were fine (think 3 star hotel). Double Bed, Single Bed and a cot. Bathroom was clean & functional. Note: No TV or Air conditioning. Not a problem for us, but just worth knowing going in. Food: Because we were in the lodge meals were included and excellent. Every meal had something decent or better to eat. Some examples include: Blackened Tilapia, Taco Night, Sirloin carving station, Lasagne, Wings and more. Every night there was also always a suitable kids option : Spaghetti & Meatballs, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dogs. Programming: We took advantage of the Shire (kids 3-5) as both ours fall into that range. Basically day camp from 9-12 with lots of other kids & counsellors. Arts & Crafts, swimming and songs. Kids basically swam the whole rest of the day. Facilities: Beach was great. Shallow area for smaller kids, lanes for lap swim, nice beach, volleyball pit. Marina was great, took out a canoe with the family and tried paddle-boarding (more like fall-off-boarding but still). Girls tried Yoga, Pilates and Paddle-Board Yoga. TONS of other stuff to do. In short, great place for a family camp vacation. Inexpensive too!.

Many promises were made that were not kept by the office people and they did not make it feel like a safe space. As well as things that were supposed to be confidential were spread which is extremely unprofessional on the HR departmenta part. Overall not treating staff with respect and showing appreciation for hard work and dedication to the company. the staff accommodations are dirty, gross, and smell. the staff meals are sometimes undercooked and reused food and it is not good. so many complaints about working there. I recommend if you are considering working at Fern Resort. DON'T you will feel unappreciated and will go nowhere

Things to know: - rooms will be on the cozy side - very comfy beds though - nice modern washrooms - flat panel TVs with cable. - good WiFi. - there are some interesting wings connected by different stairwells. If you have mobility issues make sure you ask for a wing which the elevator services. Staff are great. There is a first room I was given had an issue, so they moved me to another room right away. There is a complimentary continental breakfast provided off the lobby in the morning. Walkable to shops and restaurants in downtown Orillia. Parking is in a lot at the back (it's small though - so there is overflow parking a short walk away). There is a Fionn Macools attached to the hotel.

The hotel is not very big and the room we got was almost uncomfortably small. We stayed on the third floor which had a very small window. We could see the water but it wasn't a great view. The elevator was under construction so we had to use the stairs. Normally not a problem, but lately I've had a bad back, so I would have preferred a ground floor room, especially since I had to carry my senior dog up and down the stairs whenever he had to go outside to check his pee-mail. Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful and the location was really great. Only a block or so to the water and lots of great little restaurants nearby. Everything you need is within walking distance, from groceries to liquor store and Everton between. Rates are fairly reasonable but should've been a bit lower because of no working elevator.

From the moment we arrived, the experience was frustrating. The unit was difficult to locate, making check-in more stressful than it should have been. One of the biggest disappointments was the pool policy. Guests are limited to one two-hour pool session per day, and when the pool was closed during our scheduled time, there was no alternative booking, compensation, or accommodation offered. The unit itself was not properly equipped for the number of guests we booked. We reserved the unit for three people, but there was only enough dishware for two, and the pull-out couch didn't have a duvet or extra blankets, making it uncomfortable for the third guest. To make matters worse, the Wi-Fi did not work for our entire stay. We contacted the Welcome Centre in the morning and were told someone would come to assist, but the issue was never resolved. When we reached out again about the missing bedding and other concerns, we were told these were the responsibility of the unit owner and that the Welcome Centre could not help. Since we booked through Friday Harbour, we expected better support regardless of who owned the unit. Please keep in mind, if it rains, there is essentially nothing to do on the property. After we explained our various frustrations to customer service, we were fortunately refunded 50% of our stay, which helped. Overall, the lack of communication, unresolved issues, and poor customer service made this stay far below our expectations. While Friday Harbour is a beautiful property, our experience was overshadowed by these problems. We hope management improves both guest support and quality control so future visitors have a much better experience.

Some clothing and interior design shops are extremely expensive. All vendors charge a 3% resort fee that goes to the resort for cleaning the exterior and public washrooms. The vendors also pay the resort and additional fee. There is free WiFi. The promenade is wheelchair accessible. There are some separate male/female washrooms. But when we arrived after a hard down pour we came to a third full restaurant inside at 4:30pm! It was mainly seniors and my family but it looked way better than their website and the waitresses were very sweet. All tables had reserved signs (so she wasn't kidding earlier) and service was fast at that time. Food came very fast, fresh and hot so my MIL had nothing to complain about! Didn't have room to try dessert but after hearing coffee wasn't fresh ground drip but the syrup machine kind we grabbed the bill. Menu is a bit all over the place, can't go wrong with their sandwiches burgers and fish & chips. Would go back to chill on patio next time

Loved the electric fireplace in the living room/kitchen area, just felt so cozy. The room was very clean and the bed was super nice to sleep on, like a cloud! We did have a bit of an odd experience checking in when we arrived. The lady at the front desk was nice but super flustered when our cards kept not working in their card machine. We for sure had more than enough funds on all of the cards we tried using but they kept getting declined. Finally her coworker arrived and was able to help her sort it out but it was an awkward experience overall and not the best way to start our stay there. We ate breakfast each morning downstairs as our stay included $10 per person per day. I do wish they were offering a daily menu feature just to have had a bit more variety to choose from but the food was tasty. We also dined downstairs two of the three nights we stayed - the dinner options were also delicious. We also really loved the wines they had too, lots of great selection. One evening after dinner, we sat outside at the fire pit and relaxed for a while together which was so nice. The grounds were beautiful and the resort is situated right on the water, very picturesque. The pool was super dirty when we visited so sadly we didn't use it but it was close to the end of summer (beginning of September) so perhaps it was a bit neglected at that point. Other than the pool and the bumpy check in process, overall we enjoyed our stay here and may return again someday!

BEWARE!! BEWARE!! We…read morestayed here last year for a reasonable rate and the management was terrific but that is gone now. I'm paying $357.82 a night and I can't get a hold of management at all. Their phone number goes to a third party offsite answering service that has no information about this resort. If you need anything fixed, addressed, or even simple questions about the amenities, the answering service says you'll get a call and I have yet to receive one after 48 hrs of waiting. Here's an example... The pool shut down and we were being told that it would open in an hour. For over a day this was the answer that kept coming. I spoke with the maintenance person more specifically because management was not answering. It was clear that it would have never been an hour. They still needed to test the water and have the inspector drop by which would have never happened in an hour and it ended up being an additional day before it opened. The maintenance person was kind enough to work on it diligently but the repeated lies about the expected opening is just an indicator of how the management feels about their guests. It's day 3 since my message and no call has come. Imagine if I had a more pressing problem. We love that this is a community of cabins and I was going to book another stay for next year but I simply can't anymore. I can't risk it. There was some upgrading to the property and units since last year but now I'm seeing a management that doesn't care. I fully suspect further decline and I'm seeing the start of it. There was a wonderful young lady who worked here and she was spectacular. I've been told she is no longer here. No doubt another indicator of how management treats people. $357 a night and they won't answer the phone. That's how much they care about you. I recommend moving on to a different resort due to severely inflated fees in tandem with reduced management. Your valuable family vacay can easily be ruined here. The picture says it all. An empty office and an empty phone number scribbled on a board. 9 visits to the office.....empty.
