Terrible service. Called for a take out order at 5:30, was told it'd be ready in 30 minutes so we showed up at 6. We then were told to wait because our food wasn't quite ready, so we waited and then finally got our food at 6:30. My husband and I (along with our 3 month old daughter) when here the night before Mother's Day. We wanted to avoid the Mother's day traffic since we have a young baby. Needless to say, the service was fast and the food was delicious. I have had really good pho before, both in Southern California and in Portland, so I can say i am a pho connoisseur. It may not have been the best pho I've ever had, but for Albany, it was pretty good. The meat was very tasty, and it seemed fresh. The broth and veggies were good as well. I would have liked it to be a little more spicy, but then again, I did not order the spicy pho. We will certainly return to Sam City to try their other dishes (like the vermicelli). read more

Spicy chicken pad Thai is what I have always ordered! It's the best. Do not dine in if it's busy the service is terrible. I'm not sure what is going on with the management team but it's VERY frustrating when you get such terrible service. If you order take out from here CHECK YOUR FOOD. I live 30 minutes away from here and got my food and everything was wrong even after I repeated myself and she read it back to me. Good food and friendly service. Their new spicy pho is my new favorite. Spicy chicken is a close second.

Sam City is my favorite for spicy chicken, pho, and rice vermicelli and pork. Most of their meals come with your choice of a garden salad or cabbage stir fry. The garden salad with their house dressing is really good. But the stir fry is also very good. It is always difficult to order because I have a hard time deciding between all my favorites. Sometimes, I'll order extra just for lunch for the next day, and I'm usually not a fan of leftovers! Christian and his staff are all very friendly and make you feel welcome. Didn't find the food exceptional. Had some stomach discomfort afterwords. Think it was the sweet sauce on the sweet and sour chicken. But was also my first time to dine there. Like most restaurants, they usually have dishes that are great and those not so good. May dine there again, but with all the other restaurants that are available, maybe not. read more

If I could give this less than one star I would. Service is garbage. Took my family for what should have been a nice meal. An hour and twenty minutes later we walked out having been served water and a salad. There was almost no one else in the dining room when we got there, when we left it was full and everyone was eating. If they seat you in the back you will be forgotten. I've been in Albany for 2 years now and haven't given this place enough respect. They have very good food here. Lots of items to choose from and a very different flavor than you would expect. The best part for me is when I asked our server if I should choose the sweet and sour chicken or the spicy chicken. Without hesitation she told me to have the spicy chicken. Boy was she right. It was excellent. That's the kind of service I want. Give me a straight answer instead of the places that train their staff to say, "everything here is good." My favorite place to go if I'm sick or cold. I love the spicy Pho, it's the best stuff for cleaning out a stuffy nose. Just be careful because the noodles slap you in the face and the red broth will leave splatter marks, so be sure to give your face a good wiping before you leave your table. Slow service 45 minutes until food arrives, and the place only had 6 couples eating. To start we told waitress my wife was dangerously allergic to mushrooms when we ordered...food showed up with mushrooms? Sent back the food and told waitress mushrooms could kill my wife! and within 5 minutes the dish was back with no mushrooms we thought. The dish was not redone instead the cook picked out the mushrooms with his fingers and sent it back to us, my wife started eating and then found mushrooms the cook missed. Talk to boss and she said we will not charge you for the meal. I said we would hope not since we didn't get to eat. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to eat unless you like having someone use their fingers to dig through your food and putting food out with no regard to your safety. Finally stopped at this place after driving past it numerous times and we loved it! The waitstaff is super friendly and all of the food was delish. We got the pho with vegetables, some summer rolls and grilled pork with vermicelli noodles. They even have really good coffee! They are a little out of the way for me but they were so good I don't think I'll mind going a little out of my way to eat there. read more

I had Mark's Favorite. It was better than I expected. The grilled chicken was tasty. The teriyaki was just right. The vegetables were fresh. The portion was big and it arrived steamy hot - just right. The dinner came with a salad choice - green salad or stir fry. I took the stir fry and it was a nice change. Sam City is a MUST go restaurant! The food is out of this world! The owners work hard to perfect their recipes and it's easy to tell in the taste of the food! Completely embarrassed by our service today! Brought two friends from Portland. One ordered a dish with tofu that was served cold and soggy. We asked for an alternate option or replacement and were advised there was no other option. When I went to them aside from my table we were then offered an alternative but my friend at this time was no longer interested in eating here and had to watch us finish our meals. When the waiter who originally told us no options, brought the check, the issue was again questioned and he was a total jerk. Over confident with his sorry not sorry answer. Before agreeing to pay a dime, I then went to a manager and was advised "he was new and learning". My response, so you couldn't come to the table and offer an alternative? You just let him treat us badly and leave me embarrassed? I was asked not to speak so loudly and then comped the one ticket only. I will never go back no matter how good the food is. This place was great. We got the Pho appetizer, only $4, and it was amazing. Definitely sold us on getting a large one next time. Yakisoba was above average. Pork and prawn vermicelli was heavenly. It was recommended by a friend, and I was skeptical...a salad with cold noodles in it...how could that be good? I was wrong, and will be getting it next time because it was sublime.
