Nice atmosphere & the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and was timely with their service. Menu has been condensed and updated from current photos that have been posted from past ratings from patrons. Unfortunately I did not think to snap a photo of the current/updated lunch menu. We ordered fried calamari, slow cooked beef short ribs, and the slightly spicy, shrimp ceviche, marinated in coconut milk base with various other spices, with fried wonton chips. The food was above average, but I felt like the ceviche could have had more fresh herbs to complete the dish. The beef short rib had nice flavor, but was slightly tough to cut, especially when all I had was a butter knife to attempt the task at hand. All in all, it was a positive experience, and we enjoyed our visit to Corvallis and trying Magenta for the first time. read more

The server we dealt with should not be working in customer service. From the moment we walked in to join friends who were already seated for a birthday, he was immediately hostile and aggressive. He stepped in front of us and said, "We're full, get out." When we explained that our group was already inside and pointed to them, he said, "Don't care, get out." We did not yell, argue, or refuse to leave. We turned around and started walking out. While we were already leaving, he shouted, "So get the f*** out!" That was completely unnecessary, abusive, and unbelievably unprofessional. This was not a misunderstanding or a stressed employee being short for a moment. This was deliberate, aggressive behavior toward customers who were complying. Someone who speaks to guests like that should not be representing a business. Management should take this seriously, because no customer should be treated this way. The heavy set white male with a beard who is working as a server should be fired. read more

Service was disingenuous, food was cold/mid. Overpriced. Waiter said I was "special" which I didn't really know how to feel about that. Had a reservation for what I thought was for the SNUGBar at 6pm was apparently not real even when I had the receipts. The waiter upstairs told me to go downstairs to ask and that mofo was a piece of sh*t and didn't even try to help. The only good part of this experience was getting a buzz from the wine. The first time I went here was on a night out after having dinner at a place near by. We decided to continue our night by going to the snug bar. Everything about it was wonderful. The bartender, the lighting, the music. It was all great. Since then I have gone back 3 times with my friends and family and every time it has been wonderful. Food is delicious upstairs at magenta as well as the cocktails. But you walk downstairs and it just gets even better. No matter how busy the place is service moves quick and the bartender assures you are happy and you have what you need. I could not recommend this place enough. Bummer of an experience here on a slow Sunday afternoon: --slow service for food to come out of the kitchen --cold food for two of people in our group; the waiter argued with them that it was the plate that was cold, not the food. Weird. The server did return with the food but mixed up the plates--the food turned to be super salty. Yuk! --the space was pretty and quiet--we enjoy the ambiance. I won't be back. The portion was on the small side and who puts CELERY in pad thai? Big chunks. One of our entrees was the turmeric rice crepe and it was gross. Soggy crepe filled with random thick veggies and thick chunks of celery in a sweet teriyaki sauce and the top of the soggy crepe was drizzled in a horrible ranch-esque sauce. And it was $17. I literally said to my date that a $5 ranch quesadilla from the Taco Hell drive through would have been better. Sadly, no reason to return. read more

Pretty disappointing experience eating at Magenta. I was really excited about the place being SE Asian owned, as there aren't many options for this cuisine around the area. I came here for happy hour ($1 off street foods, $4 pints, and $1 off cocktails/wines/spirits) and got an order of Laotian tacos with chicken ($13). My food looked appetizing, but the chicken was cold. Nothing about the tacos seemed Laotian or remotely Asian except the ginger salsa and peanuts sprinkled on top. Besides the chicken being cold, the tacos were bad necessarily, but they weren't great either - nothing I would pay $13 for anyway. They also charge a ~4% surcharge for credit card, which they do not post anywhere on the menu/website/at the restaurant. The one good thing about this place is the seating area, which was nice. Overall a pretty disappointing experience. Pay cash if you don't want a surcharge snuck into your check total. read more

Magenta has a great combination of authentic flavors and modern vibes. I had some of their pho, and the broth was some of the best I have ever had. The bartender in the Snug Bar was also very friendly, attentive, and helpful. With the low lighting and decorations, this restaurant and bar has a very delicate and welcoming ambiance, but still has a modern touch that brings a great energy to downtown Corvallis. read more

Unable to edit my review so am downgrading after further thought. There's no excuse for either the surcharge itself or the non-disclosure of same upfront. We'd all been enjoying our meal -- not inexpensive, by the way -- until the unexpected credit card charge when the bill was presented. Adding insult to injury was our server's lame attempt to justify this by saying "everyone does it", which, frankly, just isn't true. Probably won't be back, which is a shame as we could use more go-to restaurants in town. Really hope management comes up with another solution! read more

I went here with my friends. Got the appetizer platter, which is a very nice surprise. Very fun to try different appetizers. Love their curry balls. For entrée I got the lemongrass vegetable green curry, I forgot the exact name of the dish. The serving was big, but it wasn't seasoned very well in my opinion. Ordered the Laotian Street Tacos (1 chicken and 1 fish). The fish tacos were great; they paired really well with the ginger sauce. The chicken tacos were not the best. When the chicken tacos were brought out, the chicken itself was cold. It was sort of hard to look past cold chicken. Service was also okay. Be aware that the restaurant has a 3.75% surcharge if you're paying with a credit card. It's not made readily apparent on the receipt so don't be surprised when you see an extra charge after they swipe your card. Overall, I was satisfied with the fish taco but the chicken taco was pretty disappointing. May or may not be back. read more

We loved our visit here. Let me say, first, that I've traveled a bunch in France and like the slowish pace of restaurant meals there. Things do seem to come out a bit slower here than most Americans want, but I'm not troubled by that. I'm not here to gulp down food and get out, I'm here to enjoy the time. Decor is fun, staff is friendly, informal. We ordered entirely from the small plates "street food" part of the menu. Chicken skewers, tri-tip skewers, salad rolls, a couple of other things. Everything popped with flavor and seemed to be done correctly. There is a definite fusion vibe to the food, so it won't fit preconceptions of any particular cuisine. Very good food at a more or less reasonable price and service was good. The low rating comes from the VERY bad form of the surprise added surcharge of 3.75% for using a credit card only indicated when you get the bill. I have a business and I would NEVER ding a customer for using a credit card. That's really bad form. The server tried to argue the point by saying "all restaurants do it" (I've never had a Corvallis restaurant do this) and she, therefore, was given a 15% tip rather than my customary 20% as my surcharge against the restaurant's cc surcharge. Besides, if this place is being charged 3.75% for processing credit cards, they need a new bank. My small business pays 2.75% and I find it difficult to believe this place pays that much more. Just finished a delicious meal with friends but need to alert everyone that we ended with the unpleasant surprise that they tack on a 3.75% surcharge for using a credit card. While I understand restaurant margins quite well, I feel it would be a lot less obnoxious to simply increase prices across the board by an appropriate percentage. Personally, I don't go out to dinner carrying hundreds in cash and I have never seen this sort of surcharge anywhere in the world where we've traveled. Love this bar for its small plates. Lots of variety have not eaten anything here I did not like the wait staff when asked explained the dishes with goid pallette pleasing advice. Their signature drink is great, and the bar will adjust to taste. For a good value, great drinks and food this is the spot. read more

I live in Corvallis, and based on repeated bad service experiences in past years have tried to avoid ever going here. Some out of town guests insisted on it today - I am really sad to say that the culture of the place has not changed, even after five, six, or seven years. Food came out late, and at random times, even dishes like appetizers. I received my salad rolls after my mother in law had her appetizer and main dish plates taken away and while she was preparing the check! My soup - which should have taken less than 10 minutes to prepare, and which I had found in the past one of the few consistently good dishes, came out when all EIGHT of the other diners had all of their plates taken to be cleaned. Worse, the soup was tasteless. I couldn't finish it. I received a cursory apology. They should have comped my dishes. I can forgive a lot if someone acknowledges they did something poorly. The drinks are OK but nothing very special. There are a lot of other better places in town. I do not understand how this restaurant can so consistently dismiss and mistreat its customers and remain open. I feel sorry for the waitstaff. The management and kitchen are really to blame here. read more

This is a nice restaurant in Corvallis near the river front. Outdoor seating is the norm these days. The service was remarkable given the COVID 19 situation. We had some nice entrees. The turmeric crepe was great. The tofu vermicelli plate was very good. The cocktails were ok but not great. read more

Sister-in-Law took us here. I ordered the Indian Curry with Chicken, my wife ordered the Pad Thai and we split a Baked Sausage Bacon Bao. The curry was okay, slightly spicy, decent flavor. But for the additional $4 it cost for the chicken, I would have expected some substantial amount of meat added instead of the few scraps I found under the rice. My wife's experience with her Pad Thai was that it was chewy, flavorless, and unappetizing. She couldn't stomache more than a few bites. The Bao sounded great on the menu, but it too was lacking. The flavoring of the sausage overpowered everything else, the bread was too hard and over baked. This too was disappointing. read more

I had one good experience with Magenta when it was still located in the Campus area back in 2005. Have been back three times and been sorely disappointed. In all cases the problems had nothing to do with the food, which is good (if you get it), 3-4 Star range. The problem has always been the service. Since the rude bartender left, the service is not unfriendly but inept. There is just a lack of organization similar to what you see in a new restaurant during its soft opening. The wait staff is not sufficient for the number of tables and always seem to be running back and forth in helter-shelter. My experience has involved, wrong meal, getting my meal 20 - 30 minutes after the others in my party and this last time just not being served after more than an hour after ordering and the rest of our party had finished their meals. I would not have gone to Magenta but a friend organized a dinner-then-concert and made reservations at Magenta. Wanted to be respectful and decided I should give Magenta a "4th" chance. Tapas restaurant with an Asian twist on numerous dishes. This is one of the best romantic date spots to take wife occasionally. The tapas mostly range from 4-9 dollars and you will need around 6-9 for a decent size meal which of course will depend on the size of the serving. I don't think u have picked a single option that either my wife or I didn't like. There are also full entrees. There is a full bar and the bartender makes an array of different tasty drinks. The draft beer list is decent and the wine list is solid. Although, wine by the glass is pretty limited. The setting of the restaurant is quite mellow which is nice for a date. I hope you aren't in a big hurry though because most of your sit downs here will take a bit longer than some other nearby establishments. In fact, a couple of times my wife and I have waited quite a while to even be acknowledged by the staff. This also comes down I believe to a lack of waiters on the floor compared to the number of tables being served. If 3.5 stars was available it would be very applicable here. read more

Going to Magenta was a decision made in hungry desperation. The parklet was a charmless version of eating in the street. The chairs were quite uncomfortable. The menu was nearly illegible. All of these seemed like they could turn out to be minor annoyances, and with only one other party visible outside at that point, it seemed like we would at least get our food quickly. Not so. Spring rolls took a weirdly long time, but were fine. Our entrees appeared at an even more leisurely pace, and the server told us that the fries accompanying a burger were taking a bit longer because of a problem with the fryer. The entrees themselves were fine, but by the time we were finishing with them, we had already spent a bizarrely long time in this not-super-pleasant parklet. THEN the fries appeared, looking like no french fries either of us had ever seen, and perhaps not surprisingly, they were almost inedible--I had not realized that french fries could be so bad as to be not worth eating. When the server returned, he noticed that we hadn't eaten the plate of fries, which I noted were inedible. Gallingly, he offered to have them remade, which presumably would have taken another 20-30 minutes. Even more gallingly, there was no adjustment to our bill even though we had just overheard him comp an item at one of the two other occupied tables in the parklet. Decided to revisit Magenta after seeing the owner, Kimber Hoang, on Alton Brown's Cuttthroat Kitchen on the Food Network, which I thought was pretty cool to see her on. I have always had good service at Magenta's, although my parties have been 4 or less people. I enjoy the concept of the non-traditional dim sum menu. I wish it had traditional dim sum dishes, but that would scare away most of Corvallis. Each 'dim sum' plate cost $4-5. Dim Sum plates varied from Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, and American dishes. Portions are quite small, but I guess that is what 'dim sum' stands for. Usually about 4-5 plates is what I end up ordering. Presentation of the food was superb. I love coming to Magenta for its great atmosphere and drinks. The interior decor is modern and sophisticated. Great place to bring a date or have a classy girls night out. read more

Waiter brought the wrong meal to one in our party, food came out cold, waiter forgot drink orders, food was only so so, at best. Drinks weren't much better. My buddy and I ordered a couple Crown Royals and there was maybe one and a half, two sips, tops! To top it off, we learned when we paid for the meals, they actually are charging customers the service fee charged by CC companies and don't tell you. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone and would strongly suggest you look at any other restaurant in Corvallis, McDonalds, BK, Wendy's, anything else. My family needed a space to celebrate the 80 th birthday of my father in law. We were planning the party from out of state so we had to make a lot of educated guesses. Right from the start, Nikki and Kimber were wonderful to work with! They accommodated our times and date, made suggestions about food choices and portions that made our planning much easier. When we landed, my family worked with Taylor and Duncan in setting the times and party agenda. We could make the space, the SNUG Bar our own with flowers and lighting. (The space is good for a small gathering, which is what this was). The Magenta team got the food and open bar ready in a timely manner. Taylor was happy to deliver drinks, make specialty drinks, and pick up glasses and dishes so we had little to do or worry about. Duncan helped out with a surprise dessert order and with the birthday cake. Party goers raved about the food and libations.Overall, the even was a lovely memory for family and friends. I grew up from a young age dining on the very popular, Vietnamese Pho. Neighbors up the street from us had moved in when I was about 8 years old and would frequently invite us over for dinner. But when I ended up with a common cold a war was waged in our kitchen. Granny was always the cure all for what ailed you. But on this occassion, she'd be tested. This time, Kim would give granny's Campbell's chicken noodle soup a run for it's money. She showed up with a pot of pho! I sipped on its broth for a few days and it was waaaaaay better than ANYTHING Campbell's would can up. Some crazy years later, I am a huge fan of pho & have it more often than an American cheeseburger. So, when I arrived in Corvallis, OR and my sister said, "Hey! You wanna have some pho?" I was like...."YEA!" But she assured me that this would be the best pho I'd ever have. So, of course my mind ran rampant thinking of all the possible fantastic things that could possibly make Magenta's pho the best. Walking into Magenta, we're greeted by Buddah and beautiful flowers. You meander through bold sheer curtains into the open restaurant which is flooded with natural light from above. The gorgeous brick walls with very eclectic, but fitting art with beautiful colors to compliment the space. We sat beside a stair case that leads to the SnugBar but THAT is a whole other review ;) Sis ordered pho and out rolls two huge bowls of beautiful broth that smelled of spicy yum and lemon grass zest.
