This was our family's first experience with a theater program, we absolutely love this company!…read moreDanielle and David are so knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. My 6 year old is in the musical theater class and he has learned so much and asks me every day if he can go to theater class. He now has the confidence to be on stage preforming dance and song numbers. David has taught him so much about blocking on stage, pitch, and tone. I just enrolled my 3 year old daughter the their children's dance class and she is loving it! I am honestly thinking of enrolling in some of their adult class too. I have nothing but positive things to say about this company!!!! We love love love them!!!!!

The classes are taught by professional actors with lots of real life experience (verifiable on IMDB) and are definitely geared towards appropriate age groups in terms of ability, content and approach. The owners of the school are also experienced working actors in their own right - and they make you feel truly welcomed ever single time. What differentiates this performing arts school from the other ones either in SCV or elsewhere, that there are no sales pressure tactics, no guilt trips, no false promises of agents, Hollywood fame or other BS. This school focuses on the art of the craft and on those who have passion for theatre, improv, dancing, music or other performing arts. I would highly recommend this school for any kid, or adult, who has love for the stage. Even if you're a wallflower, the approach, professionalism and welcoming environment, will help you find the confidence in your abilities and help you enhance your acting chops.

We went to a Sunday matinee to see A Couple of Blaguards presented by The Tavern Brawlers. It was a two-man show with very funny stories and songs. The theatre seats about 80. The seats are a bit worn but comfortable enough for 2 hours. They sell alcoholic and nonalcholic beverages and snacks. They have a full year calendar of shows scheduled so be sure to check it out. There is a parking lot in back and street parking as well. There are plenty of eateries to choose from if you want to walk around Old Town Newhall before or after the shows. This theatre has been here a very long time and hosts many different local artist events. You can buy your tickets on line with a small handling fee or buy them inside at the box office. It is open seating on first-come first-served basis. I emailed the info email address with a question and they got back to me right away. This is a small, quaint and entertaining place to check out in the near future!

The theater itself is intimate and cozy and the stage is very close to the seats. There are a good amount of seats to space out and get a good view of the action. The sound was great and the actors did an amazing job of captivating the audience. You have a few options for light snacks and drinks that you can bring in to the theater with you. It's also nice that this local theater venue serves as a small art gallery space. I'm looking forward to another show!

Ballroom dance lessons at D'Wilfri are checking off a lot of boxes I didn't realize were open. I…read moretake both classes and private lessons from Wil and Ingrid. Full disclosure, as of this writing, I am about to turn 59 years old and January marked my two year anniversary at the studio. My previous dance experience is zero. As a high schooler I participated in the marching band and all the plays. As an adult I was busy raising a family. I often use the #TarablyAwkward on my social media because grace is not intrinsically mine. An unidentified part of me was missing--an outlet, an expression--that surreptitiously appeared in class one day in front of that wall-to-ceiling mirror in their studio. I cried because my soul was showing and the vulnerability was too much too soon. I had started lessons because I'm a huge fan of "Dancing With The Stars" and I wanted "to do that!" I hadn't anticipated that an innocent decision to take dance lessons instead of pickleball or golf would put me on a path I should have been on my entire life. I'm not going to sugar coat here and pretend that in two years I've mastered ballroom dance. I did not grow up with cultural or familial dancing. My music background is rock and country. So for me, the learning curve has been tremendous. The classes and private lessons at D'Wilfri have introduced me to the various rhythms of Latin music. I'm learning how to talk to my different body parts so they do what I want instead of performing their own solo. I'm learning balance and technique and dance steps like salsa, cha cha cha, rhumba, bachata, Viennese waltz, tango, merengue, cumbia, mambo, jive, hustle, etc. I'm even learning how to cha cha to classic rock music! So fun!!! Most importantly, dance at D'Wilfri is teaching me how to be me. The hardest lesson to learn is to be comfortable being a learner in an environment where everyone is at a different level. Like, when you walk into class and see fringe skirts and think, "Oh my god, what am I doing here!" We cannot compare our beginning to someone else's ending. Ingrid has taught me to fight for my personal expression, my confidence, my strength, my passion, and beauty. She curates the classes to increase our skills and raise us to the next challenge. I spent the first year in classes scratching my head, like, "What are they doing? I don't get it, I can't keep up." Patience! It's ok to be a learner. It's wonderful to allow yourself to be in a position to grow. Wil and Ingrid are incredible. They are professional dancers with a long, interesting history of performing. The care, the professionalism, the expertise, and the creativity they bring to their classes and private lessons is limitless. They are so patient with every student and so passionate about meeting each student where they are. They encourage their students in a way that passes the inspiration of movement to everyone that walks into their studio, regardless of skill level or goals. And speaking of goals...some people come for the exercise and some people come to compete. Some people come to learn a wedding dance. Sometimes a group of ladies will come to celebrate a birthday with a line dancing class. All are welcome and encouraged. D'Wilfri--Wil and Ingrid--has changed the trajectory of my life in so many ways. Not just in physical health but also in mental health; it's the ultimate freedom of dancing like people ARE watching and enjoying what I have to offer. That's what was missing that I found in class that day in front of the big mirror: I needed to give myself permission to be on the dance floor, to feel the joy, without feeling embarrassed or ashamed like I have to wait because I'm not good enough yet. Even though I still scratch my head and utter a few curse words because I don't understand how to move my hips or properly transfer my weight, Wil and Ingrid are teaching me to slow down and be patient with what I have to offer RIGHT NOW and to spread the joy of dance in my soul, not just on the dance floor but in my everyday life. I am forever grateful to them. I highly recommend this studio and I can't wait to see you in class!

Dear Reader, To anyone reviewing Escape Theater as a…read morepotential extracurricular opportunity for their child, I feel compelled to share information that may spare others the disappointment my compatriots and several others have experienced. As a parent of young children, I initially viewed Escape Theater as a creative and enriching environment. That perception changed significantly after receiving multiple firsthand accounts from parents and children who have participated there. These accounts reveal an organizational culture characterized less by mentorship and understanding, and more by rigid control coupled with a striking lack of empathy. Of particular concern is the theater's inflexible zero-tolerance policy regarding missed rehearsals. Any parent familiar with children understands that illness is not an exception but an inevitability. Expecting families to prioritize attendance over health is not only unrealistic, but irresponsible. No reasonable parent wishes for their child to become "patient zero" in a classroom--or a rehearsal space. Even if one were willing to overlook the dismissive and demoralizing manner in which children are reportedly treated, there remain troubling questions regarding the theater's financial practices. At minimum, these matters appear questionable enough to warrant the attention of appropriate oversight. Families are encouraged to think carefully before investing their time, trust, and hard-earned money. In short, parents seeking a supportive, ethical, and child-centered environment would be wise to continue their search elsewhere. Sincerely, A Concerned Parent

Elizabeth has completely lost focus of what matters to theater, children, and families…read more The kids aren't allowed to miss more than one rehearsal and, when one of the children was SICK WITH THE FLU and missed two rehearsals she took that child's part from them. Elizabeth was so rule obsessed and drunk on her own power she would rather jeopardize the health of a child and the rest of the cast than make an exception. That little girl she stole the part from had been at every other rehearsal, never late, and was not only dedicated to her role but beyond excited to perform. Now that child is absolutely devastated. Crushed because her parents put her health first. This is NOT how you foster a love of theater in a young child. Elizabeth makes theater stressful and unpleasant for both parents and children. Save your child the pain. Save yourself the stress. Do NOT give your hard earned money to these people.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing due to poor communication and a lack of professionalism from the staff--specifically Holly, the assistant general manager. At the first class, no one explained what to expect. Holly didn't offer a tour, walk us through the process, or provide any orientation. My daughter was taken to the back without explanation, and I was told I couldn't accompany her--no reassurance, no details, nothing. I had no idea what was happening during the class. The next day, we returned for the Rock 101 group trial. Once again, no one offered any guidance. When I asked if I could see where she was/what she was doing, Holly stated only instructors could be in the back and passively allowed me to peek into the back but didn't bother to walk me through the space or address my concerns. After the second class, I asked about pricing. Holly told me she'd email me--she never did. I waited until the following week and then had to follow up myself, but never received a reply. My daughter enjoyed the classes themselves and was excited to continue, but the lack of transparency, poor follow-through, and dismissive attitude from the front desk staff made me uncomfortable moving forward. Parents deserve to feel confident and informed, especially when leaving young children in someone else's care. Disappointed overall.

He's excited to learn, thrilled to play in a band with other kids, and genuinely enjoys the music selections. Best of all, he's practicing at home without being asked! The program strikes a great balance between fun and skill-building, and we couldn't be happier with the experience so far.
