There is an obvious standard of care that is mandated to work here because everyone is phenomenal. Booking an appointment was easy. Dr. Romano and staff are highly informative. Dr. Romano gave us a detailed analysis of our current dental health. He broke down the plan of care and explained ways of promoting better dental health. I am 74 year's old and I have been under the care of Dr. Sam Romano for close to 40 years. He is the most patient and caring dentist I know. His staff is attentive and wonderful. He also updates his skills, knowledge and equipments frequently to keep current. My entire family has been coming to Dr Romano for several years now. My wife first found him for sedation dentistry and he took such wonderful care of her that she insisted the rest of the family come here! I normally do not provide recommendations, much less for someone in the medical/dental fields. However, in Dr Romano's case, the experience and care you consistently receive as a patient is simply excellent. The staff is welcoming and professional, and your care and comfort are obviously very important to them. The office is also very much on the forward edge of technology which I very much appreciate. I have sleep apnea and snore, probably since the last 15-20 years. I have had multiple sleep studies found to confirm the apnea. My wife can has confirmed to me that I snore. I have tried a CPAP device to remedy the apnea multiple times, as recently as 2013. I found I did not like either the idea of wearing that contraption for the rest of my life, not did I like the feel of the device itself. I could not get used to air blowing into my airway all night or the headpiece. After pushing for other options, I was recommended to go to Dr. Romano as it looked like I might be a candidate to use an oral appliance. I had tried one of the cheap "do it yourself" appliances you see in the back of magazines a few years back, with no effect on my snoring let alone my apnea. I went to see Dr. Romano in 2014 and he felt based on the results from the sleep studies that an oral appliance might help me. Dr Romano fitted me with an oral appliance designed to address both the apnea and the snoring. It was a painless process to get fitted. As of March 2014, I started wearing the device. After about four weeks he did another sleep study (a simple process you can do at your home) to confirm the results. The result have been very positive, both from the quantitative apnea data he tested me on, as well as the qualitative data I have been collecting myself since I started wearing it. My wife tells me my snoring is almost completely gone, even when I'm on my back (when I used to snore the most). Overall, I have been sleeping better and felling better in the morning. My sleep apnea index is down almost 68%. The number of times in a night when my oxygen level falls below the acceptable level is down 93%. As part of the treatment program I signed up for, Dr Romano is working with me to see if we can take those apnea numbers down even further. I consider the oral appliance a big success, and want to thank Dr. Romano for his work. This solution may not be from everyone, but if you suffer from sleep apnea or snore, I would suggest going for a consultation with Dr. Romano to see if you are a candidate. If I could give this dentist and his staff 1 million stars, it still would not be enough, I have been going to him for almost 20 years and he is painless, yes, you heard me correctly. Just as skilled as he is, he is kind and a very caring doctor. I cannot thank him enough for his outstanding skills and kindness during my recent root canal. The tooth was so painful and such a problem until Dr. Romano did his magic. I would never go to another dentist, he is one in a million. Also, his dental assistant (I don't remember her name) was so kind and skillful. She made me feel so comfortable during the procedure and genuinely cared about me and my comfort. Dr. Romano and his dental hygienists are absolutely wonderful and I would give them 4-5 stars every time, but I take up a huge problem with Dr. Romano's office because of whoever he has doing his scheduling. Every time I have to schedule an appointment, it is like getting a tooth pulled. I have been waiting now for a month, almost two, to have her call me back, as I'm on the "waitlist" for an early morning appointment. This, I will admit, is after one reschedule on my part and 2 times when I was unable to accept the appointments offered to me (for very legitimate reasons that this schedule scoffed at). When you are unable to take the time slot, she groans and sighs and tries to force you to take an appointment at an hour that she knows won't work for you. She actually lectured me at one point, when she Would call to try to get me in when I first got on the waitlist, about how ridiculous it was that I was unable to take the 2nd appointment she had offered to me - the first being when I was out of the state and the second was when I had to have a surgical procedure. She seems to feel that those reasons are unacceptable since she would tell me "Well, it won't be until at least next month when we'll have an availability." Now she doesn't even call me. It should not be this hard to make an appointment when they are open every week at the time I'm looking for. I understand waitlists, I don't mind being on one as long as someone is understanding and tries to work with me. After calling around other local dental practices in the area, I have found plenty of offices who are happy to fit me in and do not have waitlists for appointments that take months to get into at this office. It has been extremely easy to find another practice schedule to my appointments without making a huff and a puff about it. It's extremely disappointing, because other than the pain of scheduling, I really do enjoy going to my appointments at Dr. Romano's office. But I can only excuse this rude scheduler so many times before it becomes impossible to work with. Very disappointing. read more

After past bad experiences with my former dentist, I did not go to a dentist for over 20 years. My former dentist told me the novocaine could not reach the nerve, due to scar tissue in my gum. Anyone's worse nightmare not being able to get numb during dental work. Last year I was having dental problems, but fear stopped me from seeking a dentist. What a weight on my shoulders knowing I had to go, but was too afraid. My cousin who lives in South Orange travels to Madison to see Dr Romano. She too was afraid of dentists. She told me " I would never be afraid again" if I went to Dr Romano. So I made the call. Dr Romano and his entire staff are caring attentive and professional. Dr Romano listened to me and my fears. Dr. Romano is awesome! I have Sjogren's Disease which can get tricky regarding dental issues. Also, I have another condition with nerve damage that affects nerve pain in my face. I am a challenging patient for Dr. R, but he is calm, and easy going about everything. Very relaxing for me and makes my visits easy to manage. I moved to NJ about 4 years ago and of course I did a wonderful job of putting off the task of finding a quality dentist in the area. I had the same "family" dentist my entire life, so I was a bit apprehensive about going to a new one. After finally realizing 4 years without going to see a dentist is unacceptable, I stated searching the internet for reviews. I found Dr. Romano, who seemed to have wonderful reviews, so I figured I would give him a try. When I called to schedule an appointment, I found that it was very simple and accommodating. They used text messaging and email (or however you prefer) to confirm the appointments, which I liked. The office was spotless, the staff was amazing, Dr Romano is very thorough and knowledgeable. I was very impressed the dental hygienist who worked on my teeth (we also had some great laughs). I not only HIGHLY recommend this dentist, I am actually looking forward to my next visit. read more

First, I must say that this review in no way reflects the excellent care, professionalism and compassion of Dr. Romano. I have had him do some major work for me, as has my husband, daughter and step-son. However, the front desk scheduler, Sharon, could not be more unprofessional. It's a difficult thing for some of us to make the call to a dentist, under the best of circumstances. She was not at ALL helpful or kind. In fact, she was incredibly rude and unprofessional, and acted as though she were doing me a favor by booking my appointment. I do not have dental insurance at the moment, require prophylactic medication prior to even a dental cleaning, and she gave me a hard time every step of the way. I finally told her that I'd had enough, and my family was done. It's sad, because Dr. Romano is an amazing dentist. We have recently moved from Madison, NJ and are realizing how much we will miss Dr. Romano and his wonderful staff. For the past 20 years my husband and I have been his patients. Sam truly enjoys working with his clients, and it is obvious that he loves his work and the challenges it presents. He and his office are up-to-date on the latest technology, and he thoroughly explains the work he will perform. Sam and his staff really get to know their clients thus creating a relaxing visit. Various times my husband and I have had need of emergency dental care, and he and his staff made sure that it was received either that day or the next day. Sam or a staff member always then followed up to make sure everything was OK. Speaking of his staff, I have never encountered one who was not professional, competent and welcoming. Over the years, our primary dental hygienist, Kay, did a superb and thorough job, and she, too, became a friend. How wonderful it is to know you are in the hands of professionals who are so caring and totally able to provide the highest level of care.
