From the very beginning and through the day itself, she never ceased to be helpful, friendly, flexible and good-natured about the craziness of the situation. We hired her to shoot just the ceremony, and it was supposed to be outdoors; but the day dawned to torrential downpours and it had to be moved inside. Alex adapted wonderfully and took some absolutely stunning shots--and when the rain let up a bit after the ceremony, we still got to have some natural light shots outside the building. Her ability to go from one setting to another with no warning was so appreciated. More important than anything else, though, my new sister in law (like most of us) tends to not like photos of herself and was very apprehensive about having a photographer at all. But she LOVES Alex's work from her wedding day. There is one photo from the ceremony of my sister in law's face during the vows that literally brought tears to my eyes when I saw it the first time--as my mom said when she saw it, "It's like you're looking right into her soul". All the aspects of the day that Alex shot, from the bride and groom to the bottles of champagne to the hand-made signs, have been captured with such loving detail. They will be treasured for years and years. While she's an experienced photographer, Alex is still relatively new to the wedding scene; but if she hadn't told me herself, I never would have guessed. Her pictures are exactly what we were looking for and we could not be happier! Alex came down to Washington D.C. for our engagement shoot and we had the best time with her. Getting to spend a day focused on taking photographs, going to places you love and doing things you enjoy as a couple is great in and of itself, but doing that in the middle of planning a wedding allows you take a step back and remember all the wonderful reasons you're getting married in the first place. Alex got my wife and I used to having someone take our picture, and we became very comfortable with her. This made all of our wedding pictures, and many of our engagement shoot pictures, feel so personal because we felt so comfortable with her. If Alex lived in D.C. What I really appreciated about Maureen's work was her ability to capture really touching candids - and really fun "formals". We decided against interviewing lots of photographers and booked Maureen after one meeting. It was a perk that she gave an LGBT community discount. We set up a Pinterest board shared with Maureen and proceeded to pin all kinds of wedding photos that we liked (including weddings at your venue). We threw in a few really fun and quirky shots that really fit our fall theme. The day of the wedding her and her assistant magically made those moments happen. We brought huge bins of pressed autumn oak leaves which she put to great use - including a fun montage throwing leaves with our nephews, a stunning photo of us laying on a bed of leaves and an incredible candid of us laughing as leaves rain down on us. I found Emily through OffbeatBride.com where she had done a 1 hour shoot for a couple in Boston Common. That was basically identical to what we had envisioned! I am very self-conscious, & I have had my fair share of photographers taking pictures of me that just made me feel more insecure. With Katie, however, majority (if not all) of the images she took were impressive & definitely to my liking.
