The product Renee uses is organic, moisturizing and leaves the perfect natural looking golden glow. I figured single process couldn't be too much to screw up, and this place always looked nice inside so I gave it a shot. Firstly, MOST of the staff was pretty nice. A few of the employees were a little colder, but I was offered coffee or tea, which is always nice, but I suppose now expected at NYC salons. As for my color (dark brown), it came out very nice, and very healthy, as they did a color treatment as well. My blowout was nicely done too. My only complaint is that the colorist did not do a good job avoiding my scalp line when applying color. I had to scrub for at least 20 minutes at home to get color off my forehead. Not cool. Otherwise I was happy with my end result. I might come back here for a quick blowout or something of the sort, but I probably wouldn't come back for any other services, as I'm a pretty loyal Soon Beauty Lab customer.

When I added the blow out to the package as well, she mentioned it's not included in the package for haircut and wash. Obviously Sherlock lol. It was simply odd, non-elevated, and felt ghetto. Chair I sat on had hair from perhaps previous client, so hygiene factor isn't there. Haircut itself was good. Emad did a great job. Once we got to the front of my head, I noticed the parts were uneven and much larger than I wanted. When I told the braider I wasn't happy with the size, she immediately grabbed a pair of scissors and cut one of the braids out, cutting approximately three inches off my real hair. At that point, I was even more upset because I had come in for a protective style and ended up losing inches of my own hair. The salon offered me only a $20 discount after cutting my hair, which I did not feel was an appropriate resolution. Another issue was that there were no mirrors available for clients to see the back of their hair during the appointment. Instead, they offered to take a picture and insisted the braids in the photo were the same size as the ones on my head. To have someone try to gaslight me into believing that my reference photo, which is attached, and the parts on my head were the same size is beyond ridiculous. They were clearly not. To make matters worse, the young lady in the pink Lululemon outfit was very rude. She told me, "I don't have time for this," and said the braider had another client waiting, as if my appointment, which started at 8:00 AM, didn't matter. I had been there since 8:00 AM, and instead of taking my concerns seriously, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them for speaking up about my hair. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Between not receiving the size I requested, the uneven parts, having inches of my hair cut off, the lack of professionalism, and the way my concerns were handled, I would not recommend this salon.

I have natural hair and have been searching for a stylist that I can trust, but sadly I am still on that journey. I needed a blow out and trim. I explained to him that I was afraid of getting my hair straightened and it being severely damaged by heat because it happened before. He reassured me that I had nothing to worry about. Yes, he trimmed it properly. Yes, he was gentle, and no, he didn't rip out any of my hair. BUT... When I washed and conditioned my hair, ready to wear my Afro again, I had straight tresses of hair where some of my curls and coils used to be. I explained that the hair around my edges are curls, and they do not need that much attention from the blow dryer. It was a sad realization that he did not pay attention to that warning. My hair is no longer uniform. Trying to describe the damage is very difficult, but... I decided to let my bangs grow out, because my hair is longer now, and the difference in length is noticeable when my hair is in 'fro form. Before Mr. Moore the front of my hair was definitely spiraling curls, and after him: my hair spirals for about A inch- then there are TWO inches of bone straight hair- then it morphs into a S pattern. The hair on the left side of my head are loose curls except for the hair closest to my ear. Those tresses look like limp waves. Even if you have no idea of how to picture what I just described, please trust that the people in my life have gazed upon this muddled design this man has created, with confusion. I sent him a text, and described to him what I looked like. I wanted to see how he was going to handle this. I admit that it wasn't an angry text, and I also told him I was going to let him know if my curls did not return to normal. It was a very detailed text message and he only replied with "OK." I gave him a chance to want to try to fix his gross mistake, but he never even checked on me. I think that everyone must know what a chemical change is. A chemical change cannot be undone. Though it may seem like the description describes a physical change, I can assure every reader that because Nycayen used poor judgement in his application of heat on my curly/kinky hair, he caused damage to my hair follicles resulting in that nonsense that I described a paragraph ago. I had to trim away the spots that were most noticeable. Which is crazy because I paid for a trim. He kept reminding me to write a Yelp review while I was getting my hair done, while my mother was getting her hair done, and right before I left. Mr. Moore I can assure you that this review would've had 3 more stars if you would have followed up with me. All I really needed was for you to reshape my Afro, and to display to me that you knew what you were doing. Because you and I know that henna and deep conditioning does nothing for damaged hair- just like butter does nothing for burnt toast, I only needed for you to display some kind of knowledge and an apology for your mistake. With that little bit of humility coupled with how well you treated me while I got my hair done= Me being a loyal and forgiving client.
