It's been awhile since I've been to the gym. A longgggg while. I was looking around for a gym in…read moreLebanon and decided to try out NWFit. Part of it is because I've always been a team sport player or runner, but have never really learned how to use gym equipment. As we know, you can definitely workout the wrong way and risk injuring yourself. I'm not old old, but old enough that if I hurt myself I will be at risk for longer recovery. Not a good plan. What I appreciate about NWFit is they offer a "No Sweat Consultation" session where you meet with the trainer (Nolan, who is also the owner) and discuss your goals and current lifestyle. Nolan is very friendly and does not make you feel like you are a lazy blob. He explains his approach to fitness and sees if it aligns with your goals. You have the option to sign up for group session or one-on-one, obviously pricing will be different. There is no annual membership fee or sign up cost. You pay weekly and have the option for how many days you plan on coming and prices reflect the number of days. For my current goals, he suggested going with the option that allows me to attend group sessions 4-6 day a week. In hindsight, I know myself better than that, I should have eased into this. I definitely felt stressed when I missed a day. My biggest challenge was the class times. I am not a morning person at all and I work basically 8-5 hours. No way I was making the 5 or 6 AM classes. I suppose you can make the argument that if my health was important, I'd wake up to go. I love my sleep though and sleep is also important. Case closed. The latest class is 6PM but that's not every day. Prior to attending an actual group class, you meet with Nolan so he can evaluate your current fitness level to cater the workouts to you. Yes, it is a group session, but the way he runs it, it can be adjusted to your needs and level. I attended only 3 of the 4-6 days my first week. See, I failed. But mannnnn did those sessions do me good. I was exhausted, but a good exhausted. I didn't feel like I overdid it during the sessions, but definitely challenged physically. I think it was originally intended to be a crossfit gym, but Nolan mentioned he's going away from that. The workouts are more focused on strength and flexibility. This combination allows for effective workouts and prevention of injury. Good things! There was never more than 8 people on any of the days I attended. It was a small intimate feel. He did mentioned it can sometimes get up to 15-16 people and he tries to cap it at 20 people max. Due to it being summer and my schedule is irregular, I was able to reach out to Nolan and ask for my membership to be paused temporarily. When I'm ready to come back, I just send him a un-pause email. Super easy.

Holly, our 1.5 year old pit bull puppy, is very high energy and I struggled walking her, managing her excitement around dogs and people. After just a few sessions with Jason, I learned SO MUCH about dog training and how her brain works. She never pulls when walking anymore, she listens to commands, and she is excited to work with me. Jason cares about the dog and the people. He was flexible with our changing schedule and customized all of our training to what style I was comfortable with AND what we needed for our lifestyle. If you are considering working with System of a Dog, DO IT! Your dog will succeed, you will have learned a ton, and your own personal confidence will grow. Thank you so much, Jason!
